Alum: UWC-USA is a completely unique, once in a lifetime experience. You’re pretty much stuck in the middle of nowhere, Montezuma, New Mexico, with a little over 200 students from all over the world for 2 years. However, this environment was a great place for me to mature, confront challenging conflicts between different cultures, and make some the best friends that I’ll have for life. Now, since this is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program school, it is tough to balance academics, social life, and personal life. There are great teachers here who really do care about their students, but there are also a few bad teachers due to the remote location. The academics are challenging, but there’s more than just academics. I tried so many things that I never thought I would ever do. I performed in the dance concert, a musical, and played guitar and sang in front of the school. He has been in online school for the past 3 years so deciding on a brick and mortar school to go back to was a big decision for us. The inclusivity is apparent from the very beginning. Parent: As the mother of a recent graduate, I can say that there is no way to put a price tag on everything this school has provided for my son. I would pay for this education again if I had to; it has been just that valuable to him! Parent: Bosque School was the perfect place for my son who graduated a couple of years ago. His teachers were experienced, inspiring, and loved their students. The location is gorgeous -- in the bosque around the Rio Grande -- and the school gets students out in the woods doing science experiments, observing plants and animals, and appreciating their wild surroundings. My son was extremely well-prepared for college after graduating from Bosque School. In addition to his academic preparation and his athletic achievements, his experience at Bosque contributed to his social and emotional development so that he was well-equipped to be successful and independent at a major university. Senior: I like how inclusive St. Michael's is. Everyone knows everyone, and everybody is polite. The school offers many different opportunities for several interests. The faculty and staff want each student to succeed. I'll never forget my first year here. All the staff and all of my classmates were so friendly. They made sure I was comfortable with my classes and they taught me the ways of St. Michael's. It is not a regular high school. We go on retreats, we open our hearts to each other, and we profess our faith. St. Michael's instills in each student a set of five core values that we use not only in our academics, but in our daily life. St. Mikes is different and it's perfect that way. Alum: St. Pius X prepared me well, not only for a Ivy League degree, but for life. On top of the academic preparation, a wide breadth of cocurricular classes allowed for exploration into different passions- some of which I still hold, such as film photography and weight lifting. Athletically, the coaches and teammates I was blessed to compete with all touched my heart, many of whom I still keep in touch with. Aside from the great teachers, courses offered, and stellar athletic teams, the diversity of the students and emphasis on living out the Catholic faith taught me to always love your neighbor. I would argue that this aspect is what makes St. Pius X so special. I would always recommend St. Pius for students and parents looking to have a well rounded, wholistic high school experience. Parent: I graduated from this school, went on to get a certificate in Medical Assisting as well as an Associate's Degree in Health Studies and then became a Pastor as well. The education here is great! I now send my 3 school-age children to this school and some of then same teachers and staff are still there! On top of this 2 of my siblings also send all their school-age children as well. If I could change anything, I wish it would go back to how it was when I went with Fridays off, on top of that the price has went 10% the last 2 years, but I believe they are the least expensive school in town, so the 10% hike isn't as bad as it sounds. Senior: It’s a good school, many of the teachers are kind some though teach little information on the subject they talk about. Many new teachers are making new impressions to the school, they are great teachers who know how to teach and even go into advanced material that wouldn’t be taught by the old teachers. The student body is fairly decent though you either have to be a fun person or have friends for you to tag along, due that there is groups of people who sometimes don’t recognize you. Compared to other private schools, our school population is quite small (consisting of a total of around 40 students). Despite our small student body, our teaches are able to connect with students at a much deeper and one-on-one level. SVA is a private Christian school, so our curriculum not only focuses on college preparation but character development and creating Christ-focused leaders who can make an impact in the world. Our school also offers several different electives and sports. We have an active basketball program that goes to tournament once a year and participates in games at a connected Adventist college in Keene, Texas (Southwestern Adventist University). Our music program is very active as well, consisting of a choir that visits local churches. Parent: The teacher to student ratio is exactly what my son needed. It gave more individual assistance to those who were struggling and also aided in the control of the class. The classroom is also combined. The third and fourth graders learn together which means the third graders learn up. The curriculum is advanced but not so much as to lose a student. Plus, they learn things that aren’t taught in regular public schools here such as cursive writing, creationism, manners, morals, how to dress for success, and the 10 commandments.
