Parent: Pioneer Academy is a great school, both on the academic level and ethical level. It provided a safe and nourishing environment for both my kids, the elder of them attended Pioneer for the 4 years of high school and helped him a lot. He finished the school last year and now is enrolled in a highly ranked engineering college in New Jersey. My youngest son has been attending Pioneer since 3rd grade. He is now in 8th grade and enjoying the school with all that it offers, good teachers, great learning facilities, different sports activities and safe environment. Parent: The teachers really make an effort to get to know each student and develop them at their appropriate pace. The Montessori method works amazingly well at the lower levels when the Kindergarteners help the Pre-K kids in the same room because it gives responsibility to the older students and peer models for the younger ones. I think this really fosters a sense of kindness and compassion in all the students. However, this method is less effective once students get to 3rd grade and have to be prepped for state tests. Senior: I have had a great experience at Yonkers Montessori Academy. This is a very small school so there are not many students to interact with. I have been in this school for 14 years so I have grown up with the same people. While the school is located in a highly dense Irish community, the school is very diverse. The Math department is outstanding while the other subjects aren't as much. Parent: Simply put, we would do it all over again!!! We registered our children in Primary and they are now in their final year in the Middle School. Full disclosure: it was our intention to "plant" the Montessori "seeds" and then transfer over to a “traditional” school for first grade however, it very quickly became clear, there was simply no way we could ever leave this environment...education and character development…THIS was where our children were to be…THIS was the way they were to be introduced to the world and to learning. To reflect on our years, every single piece in our spirits would do it all over again, it’s been an amazing journey! Pine Street School truly supports the whole child: the curriculum is rigorous and engaging, and we visibly see how they are preparing our children to go out and make a difference in the world. Parent: Love of Learning Montessori is a wonderful school with caring, nurturing teachers in a very nature oriented environment. This is the 3rd year for our daughter and she is entering Kindergarten. She can't wait to go back to school. Several times during the summer she commented on how much she missed her school, teachers and classmates! I have adult children that attended Our Lady of Grace Montessori in Manhasset so I was sold on the Montessori method years ago. Those years at OLG help to mold them into the A+ students they became later on in high school. Parent: My kids have been at Whitby from the primary years on and I have one graduating from 8th grade and another starting Upper School (Middle School) next year and could not be more happy with the education they have gotten. They have flourished both as learners and as human beings in their ability to think critically, problem solve and self-reflect. The brilliant melding of Montessori and IB and the devoted and skilled faculty at the school creates the perfect school for the 21st century. The Upper School (grades 5-8) is a particular gem with small classes sizes, excellent differentiated math program, advanced design classes and project based learning that gives them the competence and confidence to come out of 8th grade prepared for any high school of their choosing. Parent: The Washington Market School made this big city our small town. We have had three children go through the Washington Market School over the last five years, and every year we are amazed at the warmth and wonder their teachers and administrators share with our kids. The teachers go above and beyond to engage children in joyful and considered learning; the administrators are always outside the school and in the hallway checking in with families and keeping up with our evolving needs; and the other families at the school are all looking to build social ties and connect. We love the way WMS treats our children as serious learners and respects their process. Each year we are blown away by the art show and the charming, homey feel of the class sings. Washington Market strikes the balance between focusing on our children and understanding that this is a time in our lives when we are looking to build community and make friends as families. Parent: My 2nd grade daughter goes to Hudson. It has been such a great experience for her (and such us!). I love the child-led approach to learning. It is very academic but in a way that is geared to her strengths. She gets a well rounded education and is able to excel at the subjects she loves. She is able to be active yet learn discipline in a way that is caring. All of this while she is in such a fantastic environment that feels like a family.
