Oak Hill Montessori School
Parent: We love the school, and its small size suited our daughter who joined in kindergarten and now is in 6th grade. Core academics are all there, but the children are allowed to push boundaries in directions and interests that matter to them. Focused work and the ability to move around the classroom built concentration, commitment and creativity. Students learn how to plan, organize work, manage deadlines, and take responsibility. Work is cross-disciplinary, and multi-age mixing leads to empathy and leadership skills. Homework is minimized until Junior High, which enabled her to be a child of discovery outside the school walls. Jr. High is a great transition for moving on to high school, where blocks of time for individual subjects are incorporated within overarching themes, e.g. water, or trade. It has been a joy, and the staff and parents are so committed to the children. We also valued the diversity found within the school that was not apparent elsewhere in the northern suburbs.
