Parent: My son attended SACH for five years and he loved it. We were zoned to PS 29 and after receiving his acceptances at both schools we were torn as to the decision. We finally decided on SA Cobble Hill for three main reasons: 1) this school is beautifully diverse. 2) the students have recess and science EVERY DAY; it's so important for little ones to move around a lot. 3) The curriculum was amazing- the books were a mixture of fiction, non-fiction and poetry starting in kindergarten and kids are explicitly taught how to think critically and how to approach problems in more than one way. My son now has a really sweet group of diverse friends, he speaks confidently, and argues persuasively. There are so many incredibly loving teachers in that school. Finally, the kids have so much joy at the school- from dance breaks to art parades to the field trips every two weeks. Senior: Attending New Visions was an experience. From the first year of joining to the last year of you leaving, you had to adjust to a new environment, which is the same thing you’ll be doing when you go to college. From the first to the 288th day every single year, they teach you how to be independent, learn and improve , and also find yourself. Within those days , we incurred difficult times such as , fights , arguments, and other things . Those didn’t stop me but they allowed other staff to separate the good from the bad, so this is probably one thing I would change. One thing leaving this school that I would like to see change is some of the staff. Certain teachers weren’t able to teach a whole group of students. Not to put all the blame on teachers but they could have at least intersected more with us and have gotten to know us better to a certain extent where the student will do there part. Parent: We love how nurturing Chapin has been for our daughter. She's finishing up third grade and absolutely adores the school, her teachers, and her classmates. She particularly appreciates library time and is eager to start using the middle school library next year. It's great having Carl Schurz park across the street, as the girls get many opportunities to play outside with their friends. The overall Chapin community is quite welcoming, and it's so nice to see how girls from all years know one another and say hi with a friendly smile when they see each other around the neighborhood. Chapin as a school has been very transparent, with regular detailed communications about whatever is going on. In particular, they've handled COVID with minimal disruption, with regular testing, tracing, and communications to the parent body.
