Senior: Round Rock High School was definitely not a bad school. Compared to many other schools I am very fortunate to have been able to attend there. While some teachers often did not care about their jobs or seemed to care about their students, many did. Those who did really made a difference. Walking into a class knowing your teacher cares about your future and education is a really refreshing feeling. The students at Round Rock High School were overall good people. I never saw or heard of any real "bullys", nothing more than people being average high school teenagers. Junior: Lake Travis is well known for its competitive spirit. For those who are involved with academic competitions and sports, Lake Travis has plenty of opportunities. There are constantly new activities and opportunities for preparing you for your future or interests. Of course no school is perfect. Lake Travis to me is not very in tune to the teachers they are hiring. Of course we’re living in a time where it is very difficult to work in a school but I feel that the staff is the biggest downfall. Another could be the constant ways lake Travis does to make money off of its students, including paying to attend your own pep rally. Things to improve on would be the sense of community. I feel that there is not enough resources for those struggling mentally or in relationships. But when you have such a large group of students in one building you have to expect divides and gossip.... Senior: I have attended Del Valle High School for almost four years now, and I can say that it has been an absolutely enjoyable and memorable experience being part of the cardinal family! Del Valle High School has a grand track and football field as well as an exceptional athletic facility that provide various sport opportunities. It also has a great range of high school classes that provide doors to potential interests that can help guide students to a career path. Senior: Westwood is an institution that sets students up for success in higher education. The majority of teachers are extremely passionate, knowledgeable, and have the teaching of advanced courses down to a tee. But, the environment of Westwood can be overwhelming. Students' competitive attitudes can be genuinely disheartening and distracting- it's not easy on your mental health to go here. It is overcrowded and constantly undergoing construction that makes just entering a hassle. The administration is prone to communicating poorly about rule changes, then lecturing the student population. Junior: I really like Cedar Ridge so far! I think the teachers are very good and teach each curriculum well and have pretty good relationships with their students. The actually school is structured well and has a great layout that students can easily navigate to get to their classes on time. Alum: I would give this school 4.5 stars, but I'm going to lower it by one point. This school was incredible at preparation. College was easier than many of the classes and workload I was given at Westlake. That being said, if you want to do a variety of activities, you will be out of luck. Westlake is excellent for kids with a focus. If you want to be a track star, choir kid, theatre kid, band kid, you can definitely find and explore your niche to the highest potential! That being said, if you are looking for a school where you can do everything, that is not possible here. I did AP classes and just theatre by the end. I was pursuing musical theatre, and that really wasn't available to me. I would have had to only do choir, and their theatre training really isn't there. They are music focused, and, when I went there, have a very Christian focused program. The school is difficult, very stressful, but does prepare. Alum: Vandegift high school has a supportive administrative team that is focused on the success of its students. The band won first in state and got to perform in the Macy's Day Parade. The dance team had the opportunity to go to Hawaii for a trip. There are various classes to take such as aerospace engineering, floral design, entrepreneurship, and medical interventions. The football team won second in State this year and are continuously getting better. A downside to this school is it is extremely competitive, even an all A student is not considered to be in the top 10%. To be on a varsity team, many of the members have been playing since childhood. Vandegrift students are also very clicky which is why it is highly recommended to get involved with the community. The school has two police officers on its campus full time to ensure the safety of its students. Although Vandegift has many classes for STEM, classes regarding cosmetology are not available.... Senior: McNeil High School has drastically improved in all categories from when I was a freshman to a senior. The school cares deeply about the students' education by constantly implementing new and helpful ways to learn. Senior: Austin high is a place where you can find a variety of teachers and students. I have had some of the most committed and passionate teachers, and some on the other side. Alum: The best parts were the many teachers who worked very hard and were super great at their jobs. The freedom that some of them had to decorate their classrooms helped to make the school more inviting and fun. The worst part was the overall management, some of the office aids are known to just ignore complaints about the problematic teachers (which are known to be problems and have had repeated removal petitions made), and there is blatant favoritism by many staff members towards their own children. I would like to see the school reduced in student size, many classes are overrun and it is unfair to many teachers to have such long hours with so many students when previously they had two planning periods. As well, the focus on morning/ before-school tutorials is unfair to many athletes and the need to get a pass for the mid-morning conference periods made it incredibly hard for athletes, theater, band, and otherwise involved students to follow the rules.... Senior: I love Weiss High School! The teachers are amazing and I've made lifelong friends. Our science department is spectacular and I always look forward to our club fairs and class informational. I've gone here since I was a freshman and unfortunately my time here was cut a bit shorter than I had liked due to the Corona Virus Pandemic. We went into quarantine my Sophomore year and now I'm back, in-person and at the school as a Senior. I look forward to starting new traditions and making the most out of our senior year with the people I've grown up with. If COVID has taught me anything it's to appreciate our social interactiveness with peers and teachers because they really are the lifelines of some students. Senior: Starting freshman year at a brand new high school came with many ups and downs, my class began the legacy for future generations to come at Johnson High School. We were tasked with creating the culture that you would typically assimilate into and being granted with executing new expectations at a high standard creating outstanding leadership development. Our class formed a unique bond that I couldn't possibly imagine other schools having, there became a sense of unification in the school as it began to grow. I can't say that I've had a normal high school experience, but I am proud to say that my class has allowed many future students to grow in a welcoming environment.
