Niche User: New York is full of diversity. Not only do you learn academically, but you are exposed to different cultures and races which is a learning experience all on its own. The teachers are book smart as well as street smart. It is a busy district with population growing more each day. The teachers have a lot of students in their classrooms and it could be hard to help each and every student. Some students may not raise their hand when they need help and it could be easily unnoticed that a child may be getting bullied. But with the great opportunity New York has to offer, hundreds of jobs are opened to help students in need whether for tutoring, counseling, therapy and so on. What is great about NYC is the affordability it has to offer. Senior: There is a tremendous amount of extracurricular and after school activities. You will all always be encouraged by teachers and students to join a variety of different sport teams help enrich your high school experience and to make new friends. Senior: Ive been in two different schools, and my experience varied with the district in both schools. When I was younger, I went to a charter school. It aimed at making sure we were prepared for our lives in the future. While I was there, we had a low funding. Our school was kinda small and short staffed. We switched buildings in the middle of like my 5th grade year I think. But when i went into seventh grade, I left that school to go to a magnet public school in my city. I found that some teachers were racist thought my time here. I realized that you had to really help yourself. My time here has damaged my mental health, whether it be from the college courses they give us, which don't get me wrong, I appreciate them giving us a chance to et college credit and stuff, and getting us ap classes but they don't realize how much that takes out of us mentally. There's also a low amount of diversity. I believe that there should always be diversity amongst students, and especially teachers.... Read 79 reviews

Senior: I have been attending Yonkers Public Schools since I was in pre-K. I attended one of the best schools in the district. My classes were well-rounded and I was exposed to many enrichment programs and activities because of the amazing PTA at the school. My high school is an IB school and it offers college level courses that will later transfer for college credit. Senior: While attending school at Rochester City School District, I enjoyed the classmates and staff I encountered. Overall, the school I went to treated everyone like family and were very close. There is very rarely a time when I see students being bullied or made fun of. Certain activities like pep rallies, sports, after schooling, and assemblies bought students together and made everyone's day better. Rochester City School District is also good at including students to fight for change such as giving us the ability to protest when teachers were being let go due to the district's debt. They also ensure student and staff safety by having multiple security guards around the school that treat people in schools with care & the best personalities. I also think the teachers at East High School, which is in RCSD, go above and beyond to make sure all students understand the curriculum. Junior: I have been schooling in district 19 for 9 years in various schools.All of which I had a nice experience in.Not only are the schools dedicated to enrich the foundation of learning upon the students but the students also work their butt off to enhance their own enrichment program through programs, activities, sportsmanship and the such. I personally like the way they disguise learning to be fun and gives the students what they need to fulfill their accomplishments. Senior: I have gone to High School in District 3 for the last 4 years. I have had a great academic and creative experience. The commute from my home in Brooklyn has been quite easy. If I have any criticism, I woud have to say, that programming and programmming changes have made schedules often difficult but this is a typical problem in schools with large student populations. Also, the teachers on the whole are extremely professional and dedicated but as is often the case, the were a very few that had difficulty with their curricum. Senior: I attended Benjamin Banneker Academy from Freshman through Senior year. I had an excellent experience. The school provided several opportunities to students in terms of extracurricular activities. I was part of the soccer team and I was also involved in internship programs at Downstate Medical Center.
