Senior: I love this school district. Although it is large, the staff and buildings make it seem like it is a little school and little district that cares about every single one of their students. Not only do the teachers care about their students, but they do the best they can to have all of them succeed. The staff are amazing and are well respected among the students. Overall, it is a very safe place to attend. There is a small amount of bullying but that gets reported and stopped rather quickly. The staff monitors the halls, making sure everybody is safe and respectful. The technology and classrooms are very up to date and modern. There are a lot of different sports that are offered, as well as many clubs. Sports and other activities at these schools are very inclusive and welcoming. Since there are so many clubs/sports, there is something that every student is interested in and most are involved in some type of extracurricular program. I really enjoy going to this district!... Senior: I've been a part of the SPPS district since Pre-K and stayed all the way to my senior year of high school. I have no complaints about it because I feel like they take well consideration of their students. They provide many opportunities for us, parents, and people in their community to get involved. I also appreciate the health start clinics they provide for students who may not have access to a regular clinic. Niche User: I find that there are many schools offering different ways of learning. The school district is currently undergoing re-zoneing which seems unnecessary and also adds stress on families with multiple children who may be attending different schools. Additionally, prior to COVID-19 there were many "random" days off of school. Senior: I go to Eastview Senior Highschool and I have to say that they really ensure that you do well. Throughout my 3 almost 4 years at Eastview, I've excelled academically and collected numerous traits that shape me into the person I am now. During my freshmen year, I remember struggling a lot academically and they ensured that I could keep up with my work by putting me in a class, where I could finish my work while a teacher monitored me. Although times can be stressful and that's bound to happen, teachers always make sure you are prepared for upcoming tests and ensure that you do well. I've not had one teacher that didn't prepare me well for tests and essays. Eastview is also very diverse and making friends at Eastview is very simple, they ensure that you connect with others and communicate with others too. Senior: My experience as a student of Rochester Public School District has been a positive enrichment. Being part of a school district that places the students and their needs first is essential for optimal learning. Rochester Public School District provides a learning environment that supports each student with their individual requirements that is unique to each student. I am impressed with the variety of support services offered with qualified, caring and positive individuals. One place I would like to see change involves the funding for classroom activities. I know some students have difficulty financially with extra supplies and materials. This barrier sets a tone within the classroom that divides students and could cause some to feel uncomfortable. Often times fundraisers are introduced and prizes for top sellers are awarded. I don’t feel it’s public information to share who couldn’t afford to buy in to the fund raiser. Junior: Overall, Wayzata High provided a great experience! We were provided iPads to use and these were replaced every few years. The facilities were also relatively nice and clean, and most classes had an okay size: not too big or too small. There were also lots of class options like entrepreneurship or culinary, as well as many AP classes provided. Wayzata also had lots of extracurricular provided, from STEM focused ones to community clubs to business organizations. Students also had the opportunity to create their own clubs and eventually make them official. However, a few of the teachers at Wayzata didn’t seem to care about the students. One teacher got mad at students for asking questions, while another teacher seemed depressed and disconnected all the time. Parent: I moved to mounds view looking for something different. At the time my son was going to Richfield public schools and they weren't the best . They seemed to just pass your children on to the next grade regardless of their academic abilities. Mounds view however, was totally different. Senior: I enjoyed going to school in this district. The teachers and staff are really nice and they want to see you succeed. I think if they tried to have more counselor and student time for students to speak to counselors about college that would be nice. I was in AVID which is a program our district offers and I loved it. It has really prepared me for college and life in general. My AVID teacher has been my counselor throughout high school and I really appreciate her. I think they should require the class because not all students were able to be in AVID and I feel like it's a really good opportunity for students. Senior: Lakeville North is an engaging school that is primes students for their academic and extracurricular activities. From math to football, I found the teachers very important and very engaged with my success. I highly recommend Lakeville North because of there prestigious athletes department. I was very excited to be apart of a good football program, however, all sports are very competitive for a starting position. I found most programs judged your success purely on your skills and abilities, nothing dogmatized. I appreciated my experience at Lakeville North because it also had extremely opportunity for people to achemically achieve my goals. Having hand fulls of support from my peers and mentors, I learned a lot about my basic classes as well as AP and Honors classes for the challenge. The teachers genuinely care for the topic and all seem to have strong interest in what they're teaching. I loved my experience at North and I want to continue my learning in college.... Senior: I'm a current high-school senior and I have had an AMAZING experience with my school. For a person dealing with many hardships and finance struggles, North High was very supportive and helped me in all the ways they could. I went from a depressed high-school sophomore failing half my classes who had no hope for my future to a successful high-school senior enrolled in National Honor Society & getting consistent A's/B's in all my classes. The diversity is very interesting here. You can find students of all colors, races, ethnicity or cultures. No matter who you identify as, you'll find yourself a home here. I feel safe here as well. There's a respectful and kind police officer that guards our school to keep us safe. She's done a very good job & is efficient with keeping everyone safe. Senior: At Jefferson High School, the student to teacher ratio is fairly low, so students can easily approach teachers with questions. There’s many of resources provided to help teens learn, such as the media center, and they even have used ACT and AP study books that students can check out for free! Also, they have a great College and Career Center where counselors advise students on their college options. As far as sports go, we have many kinds of sports teams and excellent coaches, along with a small and large gym. Even though the school is majority white (I’d say roughly 2/3), teachers, students and staff still constantly promote and accept diversity. We even have a “Diversity Day” where teens of different ethnic backgrounds make posters with fun facts, food samples, and games to give people a taste of their culture (ex: Somalian, Guatemalan, Nigerian).... Alum: Growing up in the district was fun and I leaned a lot . One thing I wish was different was the focus on the main classes. I felt, there was no effort for the curriculum to branch out into other fields. Anytime I would ask questions or want to learn more the response was “We do not have time to teach you about the things that don’t matter.” In reality they weren’t allowed to talk about it because they would get in trouble if they weren’t focused on the ‘IMPORTANT’ classes. Parent: We've been in the district for over eight years and have loved every level of education we've encountered in this district. The teachers are highly-skilled, engaged, and have true concern and care for their students. We've found the administrators to be very responsive to issues we've brought to their attention, which have been minimal. From the gifted programming, to accelerated learning options, to college-readiness, we feel that our child will be well-prepared for life after their time in this district. We do feel, however, that the district could improve in areas of equity and inclusion, and hope that additional work will be accomplished in those areas. We were very happy that equity and inclusion staff members have been added, and we're very optimistic that this area will be another way in which PLSAS can shine in the future if given the right resources and direction. Alum: This school district provides students with a great education. Some of there schools have a few problems and are a little rougher than others but over all they are doing a good job. Most of the district problems occur on the east side. They have some good things happening but over all are struggling. Their schools have a difference from one school to another. You will see a different atmosphere from different schools that are just down the road from each other. The schools in Mankato have amazing teachers and staff. Junior: The Duluth Public School District is full of competent teachers and students alike. The many programs and classes offered at the various schools whether it be middle or high school are healthily competitive and offer various opportunities for growth and enrichment. Starting my education here in 1st grade after completing kindergarten in a different state was easy. I met plenty of friendly staff and my teachers have all been extremely influential. The students also are caring and welcoming thanks to an open minded attitude that teachers have passed down. In high school, I observed the two student government bodies make change in and outside of the classroom and was inspired by it to join as a junior. By providing administrative roles to students, the district has prepared us for leadership roles for our professional lives. Senior: I liked that I had a wide variety of options for classes I could take. This year I was able to take Ap Environmental Science and Ap Psychology which are both fields of interest I have when looking at potential majors in college. It gives me general ideas of what each field would look like and better prepares me for making decisions on which field I would be most interested in pursuing. I also like how many extracurriculars we have at our school. This doesn't just include sports but the many clubs and activities as well. They make it easy for you to find a group that has similar interests as you and for you to form a club around it. Junior: I loved my experience in the Shakopee public school district! The teachers were always engaging and never left a student behind. The culture was diverse and inviting to all. The students in this school district are annoying, but that's at every school. We have good teachers and the food is average, and the most special thing about Shakopee is the academies at the high school. The academies break up by student interest. We have a health wing, an art wing, a tech wing, and a couple of others. It didn't help me much since they started this only a couple of years ago, but the goal is to lead students starting freshmen year to the kind of career path they will explore more when they get to college.
