Niche User: The experience was very interesting. I am from New York and I had to adjust a lot to the Bridgeport lifestyle and the neighborhoods. Overall, aside from the safety issues, it is quite resourceful. Once you get a hang of how to transport and understand the area, it can be very welcoming. There seems to be a lot of rich history in the area and a good amount of clubs to keep kids, teens, and young adolescents busy! Senior: I had a great experience in the Waterbury School District. I went to Frank G. Regan elementary school and Waterbury Arts Magnet School for middle and high school. I had many opportunities to challenge myself with advanced placement courses and the early college experience. I joined many clubs and programs while in school and played three sports while in high school. I wish there were more incentives in school and field trips that we could go to. I think the district could also do more to inform students about college and the application process. I think that SAT prep should be more rigorous as well. I had to find resources on my own to study for it. Now there is a 530 club to help students score well on the math section of the SAT, and I really wish I had that when I was a sophomore or junior because it would have been exactly what I needed, but now it's too late. Freshman: I have been in the Hartford school district area to visit Goodwin Colleges in East Hartford only a couple of times . The fist time I visited Goodwin College I was impressed by the school architectural design. It's entrance looks modern, with glass front doors, and decorated with plated scientific sculptures outside. The conference room was very well decorated with the world flags, a very attractive and wide representation of the diverse students that may attend Goodwin University. The only aspect I would change is to make the school more accessible by adding public transportation from Willimantic CT to Goodwin University and vice-versa, in this way Goodwin University would be more accessible to Willimantic residents.... Senior: The Norwalk School district has its pros and cons. To begin with the pros, there is a ton of diversity. No matter what school you go to in the district, there will be students from all differing backgrounds. Each student brings with them a culture and uniqueness that helps the schools be so inclusive and well rounded. There are great sports teams that breed amazing future athletes. Teachers, for the most part, are very invested in their jobs and care about the students and their successes. Food has always been quite average, but there have always been tons of clubs at all the schools. You are guaranteed to find one you may relate to or enjoy. Overall, I am satisfied with the education that has been provided to me in this district, and will look back fondly on my schooling. Senior: In my experience at Fairfield Warde high school, I have made very strong connections through friends and teachers. My teachers and advisers have prepared me very well for college. However, the facilities could use some updating. My father also went to Warde when he was a teenager. In the building, only one third of the school has air conditioning. This is especially brutal during the fall and spring. It is hard to concentrate in a classroom that makes you sweat. Among this major facility issue, there are several other little issues within bathrooms and public spaces. Besides the actual building, the teachers are very nice and caring. Junior: I can’t say enough about Trumbull High School. It is a great school. They focus not only on the success a student strives for today but their future success. They provide the education and tools needed to prepare students for the next phase of their young adult lives. Along with Academics they have one of the best music and theater programs. The marching band program competes at the highest level. They have performed at many large events including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade which speaks to the level of talent. Another outstanding program includes RCA, Regional Center of the Arts where students spend some of their school day majoring in either music, dance, or theater. I’ve never seen such amazing talent. They have the best concert I’ve ever seen for high school students. Trumbull High School also has an Agriscience school where students in the program spend a few periods a day majoring in animal science, biotech, etc. Students can even receive college credit to UCONN.... Parent: I have 4 children who have enjoyed going to school in Stratford . My eldest has since graduate and is currently enrolled at Central Connecticut State University. He enrolled has a honor freshman, gaining partial tuition covered during that first year. He is now in his third year still maintaining his honor student status while also working on campus as a resident assistant. I feel that my son was given great teaching, moral support, the value of hard work, striving for success, etc. Because of the hard work of the teachers and support staff I believe Stratford students have great success in their post secondary studies.... Senior: My experience was good! I attend a school with children from all surrounding towns so I like the diversity and the fact that I get to meet other people from different cultures, ethnicity and backgrounds. The staff has always listen and address any concerns that I or my parents had. The experience has been awesome especially because I get to take early college classes free to me. The safety is good the security is always attentive and make sure we are good! The only thing I will change about my particular school is the sports, because they accept kids from surrounding towns they do not offer any sports against other schools. Sophomore: Manchester Community College is flexible, affordable, and of good quality. It offers numerous opportunities to students and adults to further their education and become skilled in their field. The teachers were personable and professional, while also helpful. It offers a variety of majors, career paths, and programs that can be tailored to your needs and wants. Staff and teachers WANT you to do well, and can help you find jobs and other opportunities with ease. The school is known for providing students with a quality education to those who may or may not be able to afford to learn at a four year institution. That being said, MCC lacked in the area of preparing students for transferring to outside college institutions. Although the school has a rich learning environment that embraces all students and adults, the amount of work I completed for MCC is nothing compared to the average student living and learning at a higher four year college.... Alum: Glastonbury High School was a good example of a high school. The classes were of good quality and the teachers knew what they were teaching while also including students' input. There were also a wide variety of clubs and elective class subjects. The school events that the staff put on were also a lot of fun and the sports teams did fantastic. Not to mention how up to date the technology and library resources were that were provided to students. It was also a very welcoming environment with little instances of bullying. There was also ample parking space for students and staff. The agriscience program was also of good quality and a good way for kids to be involved and learn new skills. The food could've been a bit better, but there was variety so it wasn't too bad. Ipad usage for students was also too excessive on the school's part, due to the debates on whether they actually helped the kids learn or not. Alum: Overall, my 12 years in the Wallingford Public Schools system was spectacular. Was it perfect? no. Of course not, it’s hard to create an environment that consists of imperfect people, perfect but it was for sure close. Every teacher I could remember, cared and thats what every student needs. When I say they cared, not just about grades but their students lives. What they ate for breakfast, how many hours of sleep they were getting, why they seemed upset. They expanded their classrooms and their lessons. Lessons were interesting and their students were able to engage in it. Whether it was posters, or speeches or slideshows. Their students always came first and I think that’s most important when it comes to a school district. Having teachers who care about their students, who enjoy their occupation, who makes the dreading of school vanish, thats what a school district needs and I am happy to say that’s exactly what mine provided....
