Senior: I have received an excellent education in LAUSD public charter schools! There are multiple charter schools in my complex in and around Pacific Palisades, CA.The best part about going to a public charter school within the LAUSD is that my parents have had a say in how my schools have spent their money. I, too, have been able to have a say in the curriculum at my high school. For example, if I wanted to have a course added to the school curriculum, I could simply present my case to the Curriculum Committee. After some research, a teacher could create a new course and offer it to a limited number of students the following school year. I have benefitted from the "Pods" program at my high school, which was created for the freshman classes, where the student can choose a topic of interest from STEM, Social Justice, Drama, Music, ect... that puts them together with other freshman to study social studies linked to the "Pod" of their choice...I really loved all of my K-12 schools!Read 2,139 Reviews

Senior: From Prado View Elementary school to Raney Intermediate to Centennial High School, Corona-Norco Unified District is a district that is well-rounded in addressing the well-being of their students. Academically, this district offers a wide range of education opportunities, such as the GATE program, the IB program, a variety of AP courses to choose from, and much more. While academics are important, CNUSD also prioritize the social well-being of their students. There are many clubs that students are able to join and even take leadership roles in to expand their life skills. CNUSD host many evens for this students, such as school festivals and dances that allow students to interact with the community. However, CNUSD can show some improvement in their lunches. CNUSD has a good variety of foods, but requiring the giving of side dishes is wasteful. When I look into the trash cans, I see bags of carrots, cartons of milk, and bananas uneaten, perfectly fine...Read 340 Reviews

Parent: Everest has excellent teachers who care about students emotionally and academically. We are very pleased with our experience thus far. The math curriculum is rigorous and encourages students to think critically, while also preparing them for the academic challenges in high school and college. The reading program is sufficient, however, there could be more reading support for students who struggle to read. It would be nice to see more diversity, but I suppose that is primarily due to the neighborhood we are in. Overall, we are very impressed and recommend Everest to our family members and friends...Read 22 Reviews

Sophomore: I am currently a sophomore in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Our city suffers of poverty and crime. So you can imagine what the school district has to put up with. They have done all that they can to help fund sports, clubs, school meals, and more! This is very significant for me because I am a softball player and I can't imagine what life would be like for me if my school didn't have softball. On the contrary, some of the teachers I have don't seem to care for students' education. They see their job as a pay check and could careless for the students' future. In my personal opinion, SBCUSD can improve by getting teachers/staff that are passionate about what they do...Read 212 Reviews

Another thing is the securities take there job seriously and are ready tp protect us in case of any danger. The sport teams are amazing too because we have various teams for male and female. The school campuse is also always clean and the teachers make sure to go out of their way to help you in anything. We also receive free lunch everyday and it really good. Alum: Garden Grove Unified school District is an amazing district. The district board is always attentive of each school needs and always trying to improve and encourage teachers and students. They added more extracurricular activities for students. For example, they have added dual- language at certain elementary schools to expand diversity. They are also currently upgrading each high school. Because of all the support this district give to the students, it has been made a distinguished district in California. Also, this school district has been an amazing support to me. I am a representation of their great improvement and help. Because of this school district, I am now thriving in my first year of college with a 4.0. This district prepared me and equipped me with the tools to have a bright future!...Read 239 Reviews

Senior: Throughout my K-12 years with the Irvine Unified School District, I have been surrounded by the people I can trust to guide me through my academic journey. Teachers and counselors are able to provide the help I need WHENEVER I need it (whether that be academically, mentally, or financially). In addition, our united Vaquero community brings students together of similar interests in the best clubs, sports, and on-campus activities. The only thing I would change about the Irvine Unified School District would be to increase the number of Advanced Placement and Honors courses offered to high school sophomores and juniors. By having a broader selection of AP courses, it will better prepare students for college. Overall, the Irvine Unified School District is the place to be! Thank you for reading this rating. Recently however there has been issues with the math classes switching to online tests that the district creates, so what the teachers taught did not match the tests. Let’s just say it was an extremely hard year in our integrated math classes. Junior: I am currently at junior in high school within the Moreno Valley unifies school district. So far I have received a lot of help with college preparation and I believe there are many great teachers within this district. Although, athletics seems to be lacking. Coaches do not seem motivated or have the proper materials to allow student athletes to thrive. Not only that, but college scouts tend to ignore our schools all together. This causes missed opportunities for many excellent student athletes. I also believe that the school cafeteria lacks quality food. I do not receive free lunch, but I would rather bring my own food over buying food from school. Meanwhile, my cousins who attend a school in riverside genuinely enjoy the food their school provides. It has nothing to do with difference in taste. Just quantity over quality...Read 209 Reviews

Senior: I have been in the Temecula Valley Unified School District my entire life, from attending Tony Tobin Elementary School, moving on to Vail Ranch Middle School, and finishing my education at Great Oak High School. Throughout my 12-13 years of school, TVUSD has been a very welcoming and open environment, in which I feel I have thrived in. There has been the occasional issue of prejudice, as well as I've experienced some issues of bullying and unfair treatment by students. However, I do not blame the school district for this. To me, this is a cause of growing kids in general! So, I have always enjoyed the TVUSD environment and school district. The teachers have, for the most part, been excellent. Senior: I have been in the Saddleback Valley School District my entire education and think it is far better than the alternative, Capistrano Valley School District. Saddleback seems to be more lenient when it comes to political issues within the state issues. They respect parent and child's opinions on school decisions. They offer multiple resources for all areas of education and needs based individuals. They provide the tools to help you succeed and truly believe and stand behind the saying "no child left behind". They helped me with personal bullying issues and provided me a "safe haven" to continue my education when I was feeling threatened. ...Saddleback has a great reputation of schools within their district and I could not have been more proud to have been associated with it for all my levels of education.I would suggest anyone moving to my area to pick this district over all the others.Read 145 Reviews

Although I was a Santa Ana resident, I was able to attend any schools within Orange unified through an interdistrict transfer and I must say, it was the best decision my parents and I decided. Alum: In the PYLUSD I went to Yorba Linda High School. I graduated with the class of 2020. I think the choices of elective classes and after school college classes provided by community colleges really helped me explore different fields that I would not have explored at other school districts. I took a commercial arts class in which I learned how to make various products for a brand like T-shirts or business cards. As far as after school college classes I took a sociology class which helped me learn about the field and also I got college units once I passed the class. One change I would like to suggest for the future is to make the economics class a full year instead of a single semester because I feel like we as students needed more preparation as far as how to deal with income taxes. Extra class time will help future students go more in depth into topics like home mortgages, have more quizzes to apply what they have learned and ultimately be prepared for economic life after high school...Read 129 Reviews

Alum: I would have to say the Montebello district really tries focusing on the students the most and tries giving the most support they can whenever they get the chance. They make fun enhancing events throughout the schools to get the students be more involved in school related things. The only thing that I didn’t like about the district is that when they installed solar panels at the Bell Gardens High School, it wasn’t even mainly to power the school its self. The solar panels were used for something else and not only that but they were built on top of a grass area where it now doesn’t allow any type of sunlight to touch it so it is just all dirt. And when a situation comes up, they discipline and take pro cautionary measure to ensure that the school, parents, and children are aware of what happen and they discuss ways to prevent future problems from arising . The only downfall about this district is sometimes the punishment enacted should be more servere. This school district also does not really do a good job on backgrounds checks on people before hiring them. There have been servers incidents where a staff member does not fit the profile for the job. Freshman: While attending Arnold O. Beckman High School, the school and district did their best to prepare students thoroughly. Teachers and staff were compassionate and encouraging towards students, which made the experience a lot more enjoyable. However, like everything in the world, it has faults. Often times, when there was conflict, the district would address it once, usually creating a new protocol, but after, would never enforce the protocol. Things like bullying and racism went over their heads, and although they think it has stopped, it hasn’t. In this district, they provide a safe learning environment, as well a provide students with necessary resources, which is why I gave four stars. The district has been able to handle all the controversies that come up since our community has been title a dangerous community. In other words, our community has drugs, fights, stealing, gangs, and many other things that influence the school however my district has been capable of keeping their school in the lane and always aiming for the best. Parent: My family has had an overwhelmingly positive experience at The Oaks. My daughter has attended The Oaks for the past 3 years and I have been very pleased with the level of individualized support and attention she has received from her teachers and staff. When my daughter needed extra help in reading and math, her teachers stepped up and provided this support without us having to ask. The results were incredible. Additionally, my daughter loves the extracurricular courses offered at The Oaks, especially Makers (Robotics/Engineering), Music and Library. Lastly, I love that The Oaks utilizes an anti-bias curriculum that teaches children to be curious, knowledgable and respectful of other races and cultures so they will grow up to be compassionate world citizens. I highly recommend The Oaks to other families!...Read 13 Reviews

Parent: My kids have been attending Basis since before the pandemic, and we are so impressed! Rich academic curriculum, good inclusion of the arts, excellent opportunity for differentiation based on student needs. The teachers are dedicated and so are the parents to the kids' success. While the administration has been bumpy as the school has gotten established (only 5 years old), they earned their stripes during the pandemic. Organized, safety-focused and diligent about communication. We supplement school with sports leagues and scouting outside of school, which many parents do. Easy to do given the extensive choice you have in the DC area. Also appreciate the international study body with impressively bright students from all over the world. A real meritocracy, unlike other private schools that admit based on VIP status or connections/donations. In the next few years, this school will only continue to advance its place in the rankings...Read 43 Reviews
