Senior: Harlan high school is a recently opened school, so it has a very clean a new campus. Harlan does a lot of things right when it comes to academics and sports. The teachers love to be with the students and are extremely helpful to all the students. The athletic coaches are even better, they push the athletes to be not only good athletes but great people. The school does an amazing job including all types of people and has a good environment all around campus. Senior: Smithson Valley is one of the best schools in Texas. The academics are extremely competitive and so are the sports teams. Every teacher there is nice with an exception of a few older teachers. The dress code and other school policies are normal. Whenever there is an on-campus issue, the administration is always quick and discrete when handling the issue, communicating to the parents, staff, and students with transparency. ComalISD itself is run very well and the environment is uplifting and positive. The only critiques I have for Smithson Valley HS is that it does not validate its artists enough. Senior: My experience here at O'Connor High School has been like no other because this community is full of diverse people who come with brilliance and are ready to learn each and every single day. This school has given me multiple connections with students, faculty, and most importantly teachers, having these connections ensures my success here and beyond high school. I was able to be part of multiple clubs like, National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Honor Society, and many more. The resources available to the students including myself are extraordinary, but a school doesn't come without its difficulties. A couple things I would like to see change is having more one and one time with teachers so students and myself can better grasp things and the learning we do everyday within the classroom. Senior: Overall I would suggest Madison High School to any incoming freshman. There is a very diverse group of kids who attend ranging from intellectuals, artists, agriculturists, and athletes. The magnet program at Madison is great: it offers many different experiences partaining to agriculture related studies. By being a part of this magnet, students have access to an all new mechanics lab, meat processing lab, guide dog training program, and the opportunity to compete nationally in a wide array of subjects. Apart from that the school itself is known for its football and soccor teams, so the games offer a nice getaway from life's stresses. There is also a fairly wide array of clubs including UIL in both academics and athletics , the arts, and service. I myself am a part of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Creative Writing Club, and used to be a member of the Varsity Swimming and Wrestling teams. Alum: Clark high school have impacted the person I have become today. I grew as a person during the four years I have attended here. The faculty and staff got stricter as each year passes by. I appreciate the faculty and staff wanting for the students to get the best education that deserve. However, they didn’t give them enough freedom to express themselves. This school had a lot of electives that would help them in the future but it wasn’t enough for the students to get to know themselves even more. I remember during my senior year of high school, the faculty and staff were so strict to the point even the school student council itself couldn’t hold as much events as they could’ve. There were dressed up days held back by the faculty, and events that were disapproved by the staff such as powder puff. I think having a balance between academic life and extracurricular life is what the school needs to work on. They shouldn’t be as uptight to their students or their students will break loose.... Senior: Attending Brennan High School was an opportunity that I will never regret taking up. The access to a well-taught education, a large campus, and resources that allow for educational growth is what makes Brennan High School a good school. I was able to converse and connect with a number of students and teachers, and even share memories that some may view as monumental or historic. Our athletic and sports shine their way throughout Brennan, with our glowing football and soccer teams. The only thing I wish Brennan could change would be the student's will to learn. Learning is something I idealize, and I know that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the will to learn has diminished for many students. Senior: My experience was unlike any normal students' experience. My freshman year I was introduced to the world of high school dance, The spirit program. From there, my eyes were opened to new opportunities. That program is what helped me expand on my personal skills like leading, public speaking and coming out of my shell overall. I held specific positions while on the team and this helped me improve in every aspect of myself. Junior: Compared to Taft, Communications Arts (Magnet school connected to Taft) takes better care of the campus and that especially reflects in the bathrooms. In Taft bathrooms, there is a lot of vandalism and it always smells bad. On a positive note the diversity is great! According to U.S. News & World Report 83% of Taft students are minorities. Senior: The worst part of my experience is seeing the staff and faculty to be treated without dignity. Although they are in the field dealing with issues first hand, they really do not have a say in the matter. Alum: It was a valuable experience, not every school is perfect. To be honest, this school has put me through many things that I wouldn't want to go through again. But I met people and kept them with me even after graduation. If they could only put more effort in what's important and not the trivial things like shoulders or bellies, I feel like I would've learned better. A lot of the teachers are the bare minimum and copy paste other school's worksheets. It's sloppy and provides little to no explanation, leaving some of the students confused. Some teachers don't really care about education at all, yet passing us. I didn't feel ready graduating but it's a struggle I plan to overcome. Canyon is an adequate school, but I learned so much from just attending there besides education. I met teachers who care, some of them. Senior: LEE high school had tons of programs and a wide selection of classes that allowed me to explore my different interests and take classes that were relevant to me. It really helped me find my niche and how I wanted to further pursue my education in college. My only complaint is that there wasn't a lot of support for looking for colleges and scholarships unless you actively sought it out which wouldn't normally be much of a problem. However, with all the students at the school and focusing on my grades throughout the year, it was easy to let college be pushed to the back of my mind. Sophomore: Karen Wagner High School is filled with diversity. Whether it’s religion, gender or race; everybody is different. That’s the main thing I enjoy at the school because there are people who are unique. When I meet new people, I experience a whole new aspect I haven’t experienced before. I also enjoy the many extra curricular activities like fashion club, robotics, and etc that brings people of similar interest together. With that comes making new friends, meeting several people and finding things about yourself that you haven’t known before. Wagner also provides courses that can assist in a student receiving college credit or to succeed in college. For instance, honors classes, Advanced Placement classes and Dual Credit, which is college classes. Although, with benefits comes with improvements. The food provided in the cafeteria can be better.
