Alum: Brentwood High School is a school full of diversity and opportunities. The school had an increased diversity of cultures. Cultures would be celebrated and appreciated within the school. Students that were unaware of certain cultures would be taught about them by the students or teachers. I thought this was shredding some light towards other cultures so students can understand and appreciate something that was different from their own culture. For example, Black History Month and Pride Month were posted around the school for students to see. Some students would be able to attend events that revolved around these cultures and learn more about them. It was helpful for students to have an open mind toward newer ideas and cultures. Diversity may be one important but the high school focused on high-achieving academics. The school offered multiple academic programs like honor societies, AP courses, and Honor courses. Senior: During my four experience at Longwood High School. I have had to experience Covid shutdown for my 9th grade and part of my 10th grade years. This making new friends was challenging. We had to do all of our school work on the computer with very little interaction with others. So as my 11th year approached I was excited and nervous to meet new people. As my 11th year went on, the teachers, staff and administration helped us all transition into this school year with such great understanding of what we had all have just gone through. Knowing it wasn't just you (me) having the same feelings. I knew we were all in this together which has made my high school experience an experience that will never be forgotten. For all of us. Senior: I love my school only because of the Floyd academy. Floyd academy is another school inside the school. It’s for kids with anxiety and social problems, including kids that have exceeding grades to were they can graduate early same with kids who don’t have many credits they help to get you on track in no time. The teachers are amazing they are really like family. We recently just decorated our side of the school with paper snowflakes and chains hanging from the ceiling let me tell you…that was a lot of paper but the teamwork and leadership portrayed was what makes Floyd academy what it is the place to be yourself but learn to be with a team and grow yourself in the process to. Senior: What I liked about patchogue medford Highschool Is that we have a Lotta options to explore our fields of interest for example there were tons of clubs, sports, and electives to choose from. Although there were some places Patchogue Medford was lacking such as the cafeteria menu. Most the food we were served was greasy and provided minimal nutritional value to the students. I think my school should start giving us real fruits and vegetables instead of fried food, which is the main thing they offer. Junior: Lindenhurst High School occurs a variety of Regents level, Honors, College, and AP classes. Along with this, there are tons of clubs to choose from. The clubs offered are well suited to the student’s different interests. There are a large variety of sports, both junior varsity and varsity offered. The diversity at this school isn’t the best, since there are few minorities. Although this school isn’t very diverse, teachers make an effort to be inclusive and respectful to different cultures. There are a lot of language classes to choose from, and the Spanish classes are very popular. There are many teachers or administrators with controversial opinions politically which can make students feel uncomfortable. Senior: Coming from the South Bronx to a small town on the north shore of Long Island was a big move. I came to this town into this high school not knowing anyone. When I got here it felt like a maze. It’s so big, there’s people willing to help you everywhere you go. You build relationships with the teachers and they’re always there when you need them. I’ve even made great relationships with teachers I never even got to have myself! Unfortunately, there isn’t much diversity compared to my school in the Bronx, but there is so much opportunity for you to excel. The electives, clubs and sports you can be apart of are out of this world. They give so many options for the students to find what they really want to do. Alum: This is the school that changed my life. As a high school student, taking BOCES my junior and senior year was a amazing experience and made the pathway to my future clear. This school provides interesting areas of studies like art design, culinary, video production and many more. These classes are designed to get students a feel for their area of study and to prepare them for the working world. Senior: I am immensely grateful for the diverse experiences that are available at Ward Melville, ranging from an amazing Science Olympiad team to the incredibly skilled Chamber Orchestra or the fantastic Art department with a plethora or drawing, painting, graphic design, ceramics, and sculpture classes available to students. However, my one major complaint about the school has more to do with the atmosphere rather than the school itself -- the school has an immensely competitive nature that can feel isolating to students, especially for first-generation students like myself who come from a very different background than the majority of students at Ward Melville. Senior: Overall, North Babylon is your typical high school. The school is very diverse amongst the student body and faculty. Depending on what teacher you have, some of the teachers are excellent while others need improvement. The school is very safe. We have fantastic sports teams and some of them are league champions! The food however could be better and I wish they would serve more healthier options rather than serving processed unhealthy food. Some of the resources are good while some could use a little more work to support fellow students. They whole-heartedly work with us to assist us with any problematic situation that may arise, keeping safety at the forefront of their priorities. They exhibit a sincere concern for our well-being, in all aspects, physically, emotionally, as we as academically. The school offers a lot of AP and honors courses, as well as extracurricular activities and sports. This starts from 8th grade, where they offer an "advanced" track by taking 9th grade Algebra. They also offer PLTW (Project Lead The Way) for students who do not wish to take the advanced track. This latter option still offers fun and exciting ways to experience, partake in, and learn STEM courses and activities. The district is a large district with many schools and very different needs, so it is more challenging to accomplish this, but they do their best to help students be the best they can be....
