Parent: The kids are great to each other. we moved to this school when my oldest son was in the 6th grade. He went from struggling in school to getting great grades and was involved in a lot of activities. The bummer part about a small school is the kids don't have all of the options that a larger school would have. they can only take Spanish for a foreign language. All around I wouldnt have my kids go to any other school, Chester is great!

Madison High School
#2 Best Public High School Teachers in Lake County
- Madison Central School District, SD
- Rating 3.39 out of 5 44 reviews
Sophomore: From my limited experience, Madison seems to be an relatively good school. Obviously, it is a small town and small school, and that plays in to many dynamics- not the most extensive options you'll find anywhere, nor some of the big budget things larger schools do- but there is still plenty for an aspiring student to be kept busy. You'll get an education- not something from a gifted program, no, but still a valid education nonetheless. I would enjoy if they honors programs for sophomores, but I will take advantage of the dual credit option through DSU. There's a good chance you see the same kids throughout the day. The staff is great- friendly, knowledgeable. They do their jobs well. The sports and theater programs are pretty good. The grounds are definitely not bad. There is a very nice kitchen/culinary program. Open lunch period for 10th and up is enjoyed by many. I haven't heard of any drug problems, nor fighting. Overall, accounting for its size, Madison is an excellent school.

Rutland High School
#3 Best Public High School Teachers in Lake County
- Rutland School District, SD
- Rating 4 out of 5 4 reviews
Senior: Rutland High School is a very small, rural school with less than 200 kids K-12. Due to the size and location Rutland is limited in the extra programs that it can offer but never the less it is generally a very welcoming school where everyone is treated well. Teachers and students to have a better one on one connection which can be very benificial in the class room. Friendships cross greatly from grade to grade and there is little discrimination. With that being said we are a very white dominated school, simply because of our location. Our administration and teachers do everything in their power to get multiple different programs for kids to be involved and and to prepare students for ‘the real world’, still funds are limited and Rutland students do not have all of the same opportunities that students in larger schools do.

Alum: Some teachers had rules that were excessive and almost impossible to follow all of them. I liked the school overall.
