Senior: I’ve been in Hampton since kindergarten. Something I love about Hampton is how much they encourage anti-bullying. Bullying rates at Hampton are a lot lower than average, and overall, I have made many friends and met so many nice people. Every teacher I’ve had has been amazing too. They’ve been good at what they do, and many of them are understanding when we students aren’t having the best day, or aren’t in the best mood. I’ve gotten really close with some of my teachers because of it, and am able to have a conversation with them as if they are not my teacher. Anything I would’ve wished to change have already changed while I’ve been here. I wanted a more fair dress code back in middle school, and it was updated by the time I was a sophomore. I didn’t want to go to school as early as 7:30 am, and starting my junior year, administration changed it to 8:20 am start time. Senior: The teachers are excellent, and so are the opportunities offered to students! I loved most of my classes and teachers throughout my time here. However, the music and sports departments are amazing, and we're nationally recognized for our speech and debate team. The STEM classes are also great. As a resident for 15 years, I have had the pleasure of watching my two children thrive academically and socially in Mt. Lebanon. The teachers are dedicated and care about the success of each student. They provide a challenging and stimulating curriculum that has prepared my children well for college. The counselors are also top-notch and have provided valuable guidance and support throughout the college application process for my older son. Sophomore: I really liked how inclusive it was. There was a lot of focus on being a close and welcoming community. The district also provided many opportunities for the students to help the community and be involved in service. If I could change anything about the district, it would be the fact that there needs to be more addressing about mental health awareness. Also, I would make it so that everyone is given an equal opportunity to express their talents and skills. At many times, I felt like there were students who were not placed in the right math level, and they could do so much better if they were in a higher place. In other words, I think the district would be a lot better if it properly placed students into academic levels that best suited them rather than keeping all the students in one level. Freshman: This school district is wonderful. It's full of accepting students who truly care. The teachers are great! We do lack in racial and cultural diversity though. We have only one black teacher in the high school (Spanish teacher). Every other teacher in the high school, to my knowledge is white. Alum: The academics are pretty good, and Council Rock has a reputation among state colleges as being challenging and demanding. Most AP courses are offered between the two high schools. The teachers at Council Rock are a hit or a miss. As a student, I encountered several facility members that played an active role in my education and my future. However, any student/parent is sure to encounter as many unmotivated and passionless teachers in the district. In addition, there is a severe lack of clubs and activities between the two high schools. Besides the ever-shrinking music and arts department and the standard honor societies, interesting and fun after-school activities are extremely hard to come by. As a student, I was disappointed by the general lack of creativity from facility and students. This may also be a statement on the great lack of diversity on campus. Senior: It’s great! One of the best public High Schools I’ve ever seen. They have an amazing career program and more elective options than I have ever seen. Many of the school programs are heavily integrated with the University. I’m taking a clinical observations class this year, and we get to shadow jobs in the hospital at Mount Nittany Medical Center on par with experiences of a Penn State Medical Student. All of the faculty is helpful and dedicated, and avalibility to take AP or advanced courses is massive, as well as is the opportunity for aid in classes where students are struggling. Alum: Peters Township has a true sense of community. Going through the grades from 1st to 12th, by the time we all got to high school, everyone knew each other. There was not the animosity and drama that is so expected with the adolescent years. The character of the student body is one of acceptance and unity. I've often heard that people only find where they belong once they get to college, but I found myself much earlier because of this school district. I met my closest friends and my lifelong mentors at Peters. Academically, Peters is a strong school. Of course, there are some schools nearby in other counties that may have a more competitive nature. There are definitely students who thrive in high-pressure, cut-throat competition, but I was not one of them. I feel that Peters gives that level of academic excellence while still having a healthy environment. Alum: My experience at Lampeter Strasburg was overall very good. The education was stimulating and, I would guess, a bit more advanced than other schools. Now that I am in my first year of college, I can confidently say that I have had better teachers in my high school experience at L-S than I have had so far in college. The district makes sure to keep their students and teachers engaged through activities, trips, and fun events. The only problem I ran into was that the social atmosphere showed to be very “cliquey” through the idea of “popular kids” and social status controlling your experience. This is not surprising considering L-S is a primarily upper class, overwhelmingly white school district where popularity is determined by who you know. That aside, I felt that the teaching was caring and engaging for the students and the school provided a safe environment.
