These kiddos take school seriously and go above and beyond by exceeding not only academically, but in a wide variety of sports and activities! These boys and girls are active and excel in sports YEAR ROUND while performing amazingly well academically! So glad my grandsons were/are all able to attend this district. Junior: Cheyenne Mountain High School has amazing academics and extracurricular activity participation, but falls short in the care for student mental health and qualifications of teachers. Students constantly succeeded in and after Cheyenne Mountain with a 97% graduation rate and AP class participation that heavily outweighs that of average classes. Almost every student who Cheyenne produces participates in some sort of extracurricular whether it be sports, clubs, or student government. Along with academic excellence, the sports domination is easily reflected by over 100 state championships in the schools history. Although these statistics easily prove the school wide excellence, the pressure this puts onto many students is not well handled. Many students struggle greatly with mental health, heavily related to school pressures, and cannot rely on any school resources. Alum: I could not have asked for a better high school experience. The faculty, staff, and administrators form a cohesive team conducive to an excellent learning environment. The curriculum is demanding but there is a lot of room for intellectual and personal exploration. The support I received from everyone is incredible. I feel extremely well prepared for Harvard. The ex-Ed program will forever be my favorite experiences because of how much I learned about nature and about myself in addition to the deep, meaningful friendships I was able to make. Senior: Platte Canyon provides for rigorous academics that any knowledge seeking student would find exceedingly helpful. The care of the teachers for students would be prevalent to any outside source, and everyone has equality of opportunity. However, there is little diversity in the school, not to say the school does not provide a welcoming aura. IN fact, the school recently created a GSA club, a Gay-Straight Alliance club, which did indeed aide in expanding a safe place to let diversity flourish. Niche User: I attended Telluride School District from preschool to 4th grade. I unfortunately moved to Montrose in 5th grade and was nothing compared to Telluride. When I moved to Montrose school district in 5th grade, I had noticed that all of my fellow classmates were learning everything I learned in 4th grade. Telluride excels in education and is far more advanced than Montrose. Not only does Telluride excel in academics, but it offers much academic, extra curricular opportunities for students to do. So much that since it's known as a popular ski resort, the entire school excersises the idea of being active that come winter time, they take a day out of the week to go skiing, snowboarding, iceskating..etc And they offer financial assitance for programs like that, or even programs like theater, sports, and alot more. Freshman: I go to Peak to Peak Charter School in BVSD. Overall it's very prestigious and college-oriented. BVSD itself has its issues, but it's a pretty normal school district. Peak to Peak, as a school on its own, is quite lenient with off days. Professional development days are quite common. They also have a week dedicated to interactive learning known as Peak Week, which is quite fun. They also put quite the emphasis on college preparedness, with a large CCC (College Counseling Center) where Juniors and Seniors participate in CRS (College Research Seminar). It also has one of the lowest drug use rates among students. However, it does seem to have trouble with financial decisions. They spent quite a bit of money on a fleet of electric buses, while students requested several other things, among pesticide for the outdoor dining area, and others. Sophomore: Though I haven't been to any other school, Edison would still be my main choice of coming back to. The school provides a college algebra math class during school hours and a few English classes that are college level as well. Many students are prepared by the time they get to be a junior in which they are given the chance to take two years of college classes, taking up half the day so the students could still come back to Edison for their last credits they need to graduate. The only thing about Edison that may be seen as 'off' or that needs to change is the diversity and mind set. Just about everyone in the school has the same opinions about anything you can think of, aside from medial topics such as food or pets. Junior: Limon Public Schools is a very great school that helps further students in their educations. The main philosophy of Limon is that anyone should be able to achieve their goals and meet their dreams. Not only does Limon have a fantastic teaching staff, but the community also plays a role in furthering a child's education. Limon also offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities to keep everyone involved in the school doing something they love. Sports, Music Band and Choir, FFA, Knowledge Bowl, and a plethora amount of other activities keep everyone active and able to find something to do. Senior: I have went to Prairie School since Kindergarten, and wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Not only do we have some of the best teachers, we are also taught life lessons as well. Senior: Cotopaxi is an extremely small school with 250 kids and staff from Preschool to 12th grade. Everybody knows everybody. While most people think that is a bad thing, it honestly hasn't been. Sure the occasional break up or best friend fight can off set the balance, but in about a week routines go back as it should be. We are a very strong loving community that has the Rocky Mountains and the Arkansas River in our backyard. It is true smaller schools have less chances to branch out into bigger educational fields, and it would be prosperous to get those opportunities. However in the six years I have been attending, there has been drastic change to get that, especially in our science field. We have gotten extraordinary chances to go to the Air Force Academy, NASA Learning Centers, leadership camps, sports camps, other field trips and college courses are being offered more. Parent: Both of my children began Kindergarten at Gilpin County so I have had the opportunity to watch this school grow with great strides. My son graduated salutatorian in 2016 and has since moved on to CSU but not without being sought out by many prestigious colleges around the Nation. My daughter currently attends as a 7th grader and is offered advanced classes along with all the modern technology available. Her teachers do not wait until parent teacher conference time to share with me how well she is doing - they continually keep me posted. She is thriving and moving at a challenging but comfortable pace. Over the past 15 years we've been through some ups and downs with our school, and at times I was skeptical as to whether or not we were doing what is best for our kiddos. Now I am most certain there is no better place I could have dreamed up to raise and educate my children that Gilpin County. Nothing is perfect but Gilpin County School is pretty dang close...... Senior: If you are self-motivated and self-sufficient, this is the school district for you. Other people will not care about or try to help you - teachers, faculty, or other students. You are on your own to figure everything out, no one will attempt to help you unless it is their job (and even then it will be short and to the point, with no follow-ups). But the classes and clubs offered are diverse and some are very interesting, as long as you get a teacher that is involved in their classroom (which does take some research about the teacher themself - again, most do not care). And! If you do do well in school, you can easily stand out. Most people have around B's and C's, with an A thrown in here and there.
