Junior: I cannot fully describe how amazing my experience has been in saline, especially during my Highschool years. Since day one, 13 years ago when the high majority of our student body started, and for those who came along later, it has been amazing to learn, smile, and grow up with everyone here. Also, our teachers. I have never met so many amazing staff members in one building. The updated training they have been receiving in the last 2 year gives an overwhelming sense of appreciation to know that students are not left unheard. Although our schools will carry our bad reputation for years, our students have given their all, fighting the stereotypes left on us by former students who have been long gone. We have seen great improvement in, both curriculum and socially, what it means to go to Saline, and great strides in other definitions of diversity as well, like gender, lgbtqia+, and inclusivity. Parent: I am a product of the Grosse Pointe Public Schools having grown up and graduated from them myself. Now, my son has recently graduated (2020 Covid Grad!) and my daughter is currently in 4th grade. My son was a challenge and every opportunity was given to my kid. Sometimes I had to be the vocal advocate, but usually the school approached me with a solution. My daughter has been a relative breeze in comparison. And the school is just as responsive! The teachers, at all levels, are engaged, excited to teach. The teachers are always striving to learn more so they can share and do more for our kids! The community is incredibly engaged! Where else can you go and the most common topic of conversation between parents, students, and non-connected adults are speaking of the school system and how to make it better?! Senior: Great district with a lot of great teachers and staff! I have loved being a part of the high school at Northville. I have found so many great students in my classes, the teachers are all very flexible and willing to help, and the administrators are very kind and always welcome everyone with a big smile. With going virtual in 2020, the whole school has really stepped up and provided many accommodations for students, as well as many resources for mental health, college preparation, and overall course rigor assistance. Alum: Brighton area schools are nice because they are clean, well funded, and safe. However, the downsides of this is that theres some snobs in the school who are very entitled. Not very LGBTQ+ friendly, and it is extremely in-diverse. About 99% of the student population is white. So because of this I believe there is a lot of ethnocentrism, and entitlement, unless the parents parented well. The teaching staff however is very good and really no complaints there. Never had any teacher or staff make me feel uncomfortable or unsafe in anyway. I am an artist and the highschool had an amazing art program. The theater program was great as well, and Brighton area schools do have great athletic teams. I was on the womens lacrosse team and went to D1 state finals three times. Junior: At Bloomfield Hills High School, I really enjoyed my experience. The teachers were very accommodating and helpful for the most part. Many of my teachers would spend hours on their lesson plans and they would still be willing to answer all questions thrown at them, even if they deviated from the main point of class. Additionally, there was a strong sense of community in this school and both students and staff members were willing to come together to overcome various challenges faced within the community. Senior: I love the RCS community! I have moved to 6 different school districts throughout my childhood and this is by far the best. The teachers, students, and most importantly the administrators at Rochester Adams High School are like no other. Everything from academics to athletics are outstanding, and I feel so safe in this environment. All 3 RCS high schools hold a strong sense of community. There are so many clubs, activities, and extracurriculars that you are sure to find something you like. The staff makes every child feel at home. Freshman: Ever since I've started my first day at beacon tree elementary school I have always loved this district. Utica schools are always updating not only the parents but the kids. They have always cared about their students and staff. The teachers are absolutely great and as well as the curriculum. I am freshman in the Utica community schools. This district goes from kindergarten to the sixth grade is elementary school , seventh through 9th is at the junior high and tenth through twelfth is at the high school. Because I am in 9th grade I am at the junior high. This time of year is when we get to pick our classes for the following year. I couldn't believe how much classes I could pick from! Alum: The staff at Clarenceville are very nice and dedicated. They very willing to help and be supportive. It is a small school with a big heart. The parents in the community are very much involved. I do wish for the facility to be improved a bit and more passing time between classes. Im provement can be made with the drinking fountains, most of them don not worl anymore. I want lunch at school to be improved since Michelle Obama is no longer the First Lady; we do not have to eat microwaved food because it is easier to keep the calories in check anymore. Sophomore: AP Public Schools are average schools, with some pretty decent resources and a good amount of opportunities to learn, but it's the teachers that make it amazing. The teachers, no matter what grade or subject, make AP a district full of prosperous, motivated students that have been inspired and filled with knowledge by their invested, brilliant teachers. Senior: Chippewa Valley High School is a public school in Clinton twp. Michigan. Overall, the school is most widely known for football as we won the state championships in 2018. Sophomore: CCS offers many great opportunities to students with specialized programs and pathways. They are an IB & AP district, both programs as well as gen.ed. have amazing teachers. Mental health is extremely important in Clarkston from k-12, the school provides as many resources and outlets for students as possible. One unique thing about Clarkston is that it has 3 secondary schools, Sashabaw Middle School, Clarkston Junior High School, and Clarkston High School. This is broken down into an 6th-7th grade building, 8th-9th and 10-12th. Two buildings have been built or renovated in the past 25 years, and another is being renovated within 5 years. Clarkston has amazing athletics and opportunities to play in college, winning state championships every year across different sports. Alum: I would like to see a revamp to the curriculum in math and science. As a student who also went to MMSTC, it was appalling to see how much isn’t covered in the “accelerated” math and science classes. Additionally, there needs to be extra incentive to pique interest in these classes; I would like to see things like an alumni day where graduates come back and make a presentation about their careers their day to day (with a particular focus with STEM), engaging field trips, and allow teachers MUCH more freedom to determine what goes on their syllabus in accelerated and AP classes. It is truly disappointing to see how a school can have an excellent performing arts program but fall short in academics, and not only will students benefit from the extra rigor, but teachers will be able to have more variety in what they teach and they can be reminded why they became teachers. Alum: I loved my school. They make it feel very safe and inform you of well of what to do in every scenario. I made a lot of good friends. I had amazing teachers and got a very good education through them. I wish that more attention was given to girl sports though. The dance team specifically doesn't get the practice room or equipment they deserve. When I was on it, we practiced in the cafeteria for two years before we got a space dedicated for us which was then used as a storage closet for the boosters and cheer team.
