Freshman: Overall, I have enjoyed my last 2.5 years at Harwood Junior High! Most of the teachers strive to help each student reach its ultimate potential. The math department is by far the best! They are very encouraging and will help students to the best of their ability until they understand the concept. Parent: This school is a great fit for my kids but it’s not for everyone. In our experience the academic aspect is very strong. I like that the teachers don’t just teach to the staar like surrounding districts. However, it appears most teachers are still covering the staar material as 2 of my kids received perfect scores on the math and reading staar several times. The sports and extracurricular activities are limited compared to surrounding districts but most people who choose this school are aware of this and don’t expect the same. We actually prefer the low-key aspect of the sports since it allows kids the opportunity to be on their school team in sports they might not have a lot of prior experience in. Most the teachers and administrators have been very responsive when I have a concern. It seems some people who have issues don’t really research what the IB curriculum is actually like or what sports and extracurricular programs are offered before choosing to send kids here. Freshman: Highland Middle School is a wonderful school that has an amazing staff , who shaped me into the student I am today. I enjoyed every part of my time at Highland. I especially enjoyed participating in Highland's athletic activities and academic clubs. The coaches were absolutely fantastic and taught me to push myself and trained me, making me the athlete I am today. Highland also offers a variety of academic clubs and activities . I participated in National Junior Honor Society and Whiz Quiz, both of which had great teacher's who led the groups and volunteered extra hours to teach students and encourage students to be a light in their community. Senior: It had good teachers that cared about the students and knew how to teach. We weren't short on supplies, and in fact some teachers were so kind as to give students supplies to use and keep- things that weren't cheap either i.e. Canvas from the art teacher. Both history teachers I had were so involved with their subject that I acquired a love for the subject that I had previously not liked very much. There were interactive "colonial days" and a flourishing history club that took an overnight field trip to the Alamo one year! The science department wasn't lacking by any means either. We were able to dissect frogs and I still TO this day use a memory technique taught to me by my 7th grade science teacher, concerning genetics. Overall it was a good place to be.... Read 8 reviews

Alum: This is a wonderful middle school; I cannot imagine any better one! It is in a modern new building on Kirkwood Boulevard and all of the rooms and resources are the best quality. The teachers love working there and the administrators make sure everyone is having their best experience. If you have the opportunity to send your kids to Carroll Middle School in Southlake, you are extremely fortunate. The band, athletic, theater, and choir departments at Carroll Middle are the best of the best. Senior: The teachers at Harmony really show that they value the students and their students' education, not just their own paychecks. They care about a lot about the students and build connections as well as trust with many if not all of their students. I have loved almost all of my teachers so far and I feel that not only myself but many other students trust these teachers with things that we don't trust many other people with. They are not only educators but they are life coaches, friends, and practically parents. The only problem is the lack of control that the students show in the day to day. Some of the students here lack self control and do not listen well to authority, so it is a bit frustrating to see the teachers constantly trying to reel the class back in because someone was goofing off again.... Senior: Middle school is that weird transitional age where you’re trying to figure yourself out. Everybody goes through this stage, but the teachers at Fossil Hill Middle School really helped me throughout my journey. The teachers really were passionate about the subjects they taught, they were actively engaged in their students lives. I love middle school. I say love instead of loved because I still reminisce on middle school. The teacher who really pushed me to do best were my Avid Teachers Mrs. Harvath and Mr. Burleson. I had them 7th and 8th grade and whenever I started to act out they never ridiculed me, they talked to me and set me back on track. Works Here: After teaching in a traditional public school setting for 17 years, I started teaching 3rd grade math at Treetops in 2013 and absolutely LOVE IT! The campus is gorgeous...trees, creek, pond, bridges, nature trails, etc... The small class sizes are fabulous...I literally work one-on-one with each of my students every single day!
