Junior: I am very grateful to have been given the chance to spend the last 6 years here at FWAFA. As someone who went through Crowley ISD's academic curriculum and student environment, I believe that FWAFA has proven to be a school that prepares students for success. Of course, no school is perfect and there are a few issues with administration here and there (i.e. sometimes communication gets lost in translation and some things aren't announced to the students, teachers, or parents until the last minute) and the facilities need a little renovating. But, overall, I have learned a lot through the academic program especially in the science and english departments. And the fine arts program is fantastic! I have built such good relationships with my fine arts teachers, who teach rigorous lesson plans in order to hone our skills in the aspect of fine arts. Senior: The Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a very rigorous and academically focused school. While it's relatively new and small, compared to other larger high schools, they provide many benefits and opportunities to high school students at an early age. Students are able to physically attend school at a community college amongst other college students and actually attend lectures taught by real professors. Not only does this allow students to become accustomed to this diverse environment, but it also gives them a taste of what college is really like. In addition, The Texas Academy of Biomedical also provides students the opportunity to obtain an associates degree during their time there. However, because this school is academically driven, there are very few clubs and other out of school activities, like sports provided. Freshman: Just a little back story, this is my first year of college and I am going for my culinary degree and baking/pastry certification. I'll be transferring to TWU after two years to get my bachelor's degree. So far, all of my classes have been great! All of my professors and chefs have been very specific about the topic being taught, helpful, encouraging, hard working, and even funny. Not only have my professors been amazing, the other staff have been too. I had a hard time figuring out what classes to sign up for and even what route to go, but one of the head advisers emailed and called multiple times to help me even when she didn't necessarily have to. I am also involved in the art club at Southeast Tarrant county college and the two teachers are so light hearted and free spirited. I love creating without feeling like someone is judging my work and they have taught the club how to do many different types of art such as, textile printing, clay, leather carving, and so much more.... Sophomore: Overall experience? Pretty good. Academically, the World Languages Institute has done very well and it is due to the great effort put by the teachers and administration to find the best opportunities for students. And not just an effort towards getting students to do work, but to get students to want to do work. And while that is very important, that is not the school's only focus. Teaching about cultures is also very important and the way that the school does it is great. With regular events to show how different cultures work, the school has a lot of fun with it. Now, yes, there are many good things about the World Languages Institute but there are things that could/should be changed. The school does not have any sports and does not have regular clubs and activities. What they do have is very limited, like not participating in district-wide sports. Senior: YWLA is a middle and high school combined and I have been lucky to attend all 7 years. They have provided me with many opportunities such as college trips, luncheons, and mentors with gm financial. We have 100% college acceptance. Also each year we have a signing day where the seniors reveal to the school where they will be attending in the fall and the class of 2019 was able to get sponsored by the Dallas Mavericks, sponsoring the class of 2020 too! As well as the Young Women's Preparatory Network is our foundation which helps all of this become possible. I am so glad I stuck around for High school, or else I wouldn't have gotten a great experience and have bonded with my fellow sisters. Although if I could change one thing it'd be our building, the school is growing which is great but it feels as if our building is slowly starting to outgrow as well, so having a bigger campus for the other students is something I hope goes into consideration.... Senior: Beginning highschool can be a very challenging and nervous filled experience. I never imagined myself attending paschal highschool, but it turned out to be an amazing choice. My experience at paschal academic wise has been excellent. My teachers are great and the friends that I’ve made there have been even better. If there were one thing that I would change about paschal, it would be the diversity of students. Being an African American student at a predominately white school can feel very odd. At some points, like being the only black person in class can be very discomforting especially when it comes to talking about black history. I feel as though the ratio of black and white could be a little more equal. Other than that, I love my school and would highly recommend it to students entering highschool. Senior: Personally I think Arlington heights its a great school, It is very diverse and has great staff. The teachers help you one on one, and make sure you understand the curriculum. I've gone there for 4 years and I'm glad I chose AHHS! At Arlington heights we are big on sports especially football and we have a variety of clubs and sports you can join I'd say almost every single person at Arlington heights is either in a club or sport or both! Its a positive environment and is rated very good. The councilors set you up for college and they talk to you and you can have meeting about your future and what you need to do to be successful. We have college counselors at our school that help us apply for colleges and scholarships which is amazing! Junior: Trimble Technical High School is very welcoming. I’ve met many amazing people who are intelligent and smart. The teachers care deeply about if the students are learning or not, at least that’s my experience with the teachers I’ve had. The school seem big from the outside but it is actually small from the inside as you get familiar with it. Because the school is located in the next to downtown and hospital, traffic are the norm in the morning and evening. Overall, I had a really good experience at Tech. During the time I’ve been there from 2019 until now, there are no major fights or flashing news that disturb learning. The food in the cafeteria is clean and abundant, however many students usually go to restaurants nearby for lunch. If you go to the school, you will definitely find a best friend there! Senior: My name is Isela Cervantes, I attend South Hills High School in Texas. I can say my high school is a pretty cool school. There are many clubs and activities were each person can fit in. My personal experience attending at this school has been good. We have strong pride for our school. I can say we do have some of the best programs. We have TAFE, AVID, Business classes, Culinary Arts, Graphic Design and many more programs. If i could change anything from my school it would be the carpets and renew the restrooms. Maybe some of the office attendance ladies attitudes. They are rude and dont explain things when you need help. The students do a better job at helping one another. I would also like to us all grade levels to help each grade level before, and give them advice. Tell them about our experience being in that grade, teachers, grades, work. Alum: I went to Benbrook for 7 years while it under went it’s change from a middle school to a high school. Most of the teachers were well educated but there were some less experienced teachers, just starting their careers. This school has some descent AP classes but most regular courses are very slow and only designed to get you to graduation. This school offers clubs, such as JROTC, anime club, National honors society and many more. I was part of the second graduating class from this school. The school’s traditions are still being developed, so there is room to grow. On of the upsides is the rule about leaving campus for lunch. Only upperclassmen can go off campus for the lunch break. Overall, the school is still very new and trying to find its footing, but it is a descent place to get an education, plus the middle school is discontinued from the main building so you won’t be run over by little 6th graders.... Senior: Shannon High School is by far the best high school I have attended. I previously attended two high schools before Shannon, however, I felt as if I wasn’t my best self in those schools. The way Shannon teachers care for their students, inside and outside of school, is nothing like I’ve seen before. They have helped me grow mentally, helped me learn to prioritize my education and learn that it is okay to ask for help. They infiltrate themselves into students lives not to meddle, but to know the other factors that may affect our ability to focus in school. They have very reasonable expectations and go above and beyond by offering alternative ways a student can earn credit for their classes. They offer a routine Saturday school that allow students to catch up on missing work, class time and/or tutoring.
