Alum: I attended GSSM from 2015-2017 and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. During my tenure, there was not a heavy presence of arts and humanities, however, now it is my understanding that they have a new focus on this at the school to create a more well-balanced curriculum. The professors and staff were so supportive of my academic trajectory and were able to help out whenever I needed them. I spent many hours completing homework in my professors' offices, as well as studying for their exams and attending study sessions. I am forever grateful for my time at this institution, although sometimes, the workload was overwhelming for a 16-18 year old, it prepared me for college more than I knew. College was extremely easy compared to the stress and rigor of GSSM and that allowed me more freedom for self-expression. Following graduation, I still keep in touch with some professors to this day! Sophomore: Amazing school with incredible faculty and staff. Everybody cares so deeply about the students and the students work very hard. There is so much involvement from the student body and it makes the high school experience 10x better and unforgettable. Senior: My junior year was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat! Studios and instruction you’d expect at a private art college are accessible here all just within a few steps from one another, especially as a visual artist, where I was exposed to ceramics, metals, printmaking, drawing, painting, animation, graphic design, sculpture, and many more. I believe that although some experiences may have been altered due to the COVID pandemic, there was plenty to do in the studios, and I was encouraged to explore in ways that would benefit my artwork regardless of the pandemics limitations. Likewise with how collaborative work was used in art studios, academic classes equally engaged the entirety of the classroom, despite how some of the content was particularly challenging. Senior: Spring Hill High School is not like any other school in District 5. Spring Hill does not have any sports teams which may seem weird for a high school but this actually encourages the students to focus more on academics. Spring Hill also has many clubs like Beta Club, National Honor Society, DECA, and HOSA but there are also clubs that students have made such as: Cheese Club, Gaming Club, and Drawing Club. At Spring Hill, students have the freedom to do pretty much anything. For example, during lunch students are given an hour to either eat lunch, participate in sports in the gym, or receive academic assistance from teachers if needed. Lastly, Spring Hill has the best teachers in the world! All of the teachers at Spring Hill willingly give up their time in the mornings or after school in order to offer extra help for students which I think is AMAZING! Senior: I have attended Green Charter School as a student since 7th grade. The School is public but managed like a private school. I give it four out five stars. I think the School provides a special environment for students. The Middle/High School is Small with less than 300 students. Even though the campus is still very diverse with student from America, Middle East, Europe, Central and South America, and India. The social order of students isn't really a problem as a lot of student would be considered nerds or geeks in other schools. We also have to wear uniforms to school. Administration is sometimes overly-strict and exaggerating at times. This is especially true on dress code issues and interactions between genders. I do wish the school cared and supported the Music and Arts more. I also wish the School would invest more in the prospect of having a library. We do have Sports teams. Senior: I am a senior at Academic Magnet High School and have attended all four years. This school is academically rigorous and pushes its students to succeed. The school's community is unified and safe in nature and the teachers and staff always have the student population's best interest in mind. Sports and activities are highly active between students, staff, and parents, and they foster a prosperous environment for the school. Students are considerate and kind to one another for the most part. One thing this school must work on is prioritizing racial, cultural, socioeconomic diversity. Academic Magnet is attended by predominantly white, wealthy students while being located in a poorer and historically black area. Seeing the lack of people of color in the student body is discouraging to the school district's educational system. Senior: Daniel High School is a great school. We have a very diverse population and are set in a college town. There are many activities to participate in including football, basketball, soccer, track, golf, swim, tennis, baseball, softball, cross country, student government, band, cheerleading, dance team, orchestra, theater, language clubs, etc. There is a way for everyone to get plugged in. We have very diverse course offerings, from dual credit to AP to CP to general education. Our county has a state of the art career center with many opportunities to help with college and work after high school. The teachers at our school are supportive and work hard to make our education challenging. Due to our setting in a college town we have a lot of diversity due to being so close to Clemson University. Parent: Greenville Technical Charter High School is a great school! It has small class sizes that allow faculty to get to know students well and help them when needed. The faculty seem to care about the success of each student. The great opportunity exists here to explore Greenville Technical College’s course offerings while in high school, and make progress toward (or complete!) an associate’s degree while still a high school student. Being on the main Greenville Tech campus is an advantage over the other similar charter schools as there are college courses offered on the main campus that are not available on the other Greenville Tech satellite campuses, allowing for a larger variety of college credits to be easily earned. GTCHS retains all of expected high school experiences (athletics, fine arts, student social events, student organizations) while also serving the community by students completing service hours through many varied opportunities. Alum: Attending Aynor High School was an outstanding experience for me. I enjoyed the welcoming environment and the caring teachers, administration, and staff. The community is loving and genuine. The level of academic achievement is abnormally high for a public school. Many AP and IB classes are offered, and the teachers are highly certified. I am a music education major, and when I go to other schools for teaching practicums I am reminded of how pristine Aynor High School is. The cleanliness of the campus and building is unmatched. Alum: St. James High School was crowded, compared to other schools I attended. Most teachers were nice, and cared about their students' success. I am incredibly grateful for the kindness that my teachers have shown me. They were there for me when I needed them most. When I was at this school, I felt safe and supported in whatever I did. Lunch and breakfast was free for a while, it helped me out lots. There were good clubs you could join. I made memories I will never forget from some of those clubs. My favorite classes in this school were English, Art, and Family and Consumer Sciences. The teachers I had for those classes engaged with their students, and made learning fun. I wish that we could have learned about how to do basic necessities, such as how bills and taxes work. I felt lost when I did my taxes for my first job. Administration was decent. Alum: I've just completed my senior year and been at other schools before this one; this one has to have the best learning and friendly environment out of all of them. Most teachers were passionate about what they taught and understood if I had asked them for some help out of class via email or in person. A big issue with this school is how they handle big events. It was always difficult for me to ever know any information before these events or for other students to be unless they were directly involved. Senior: Throughout high school, it was always hard for me to make friends. I had gone to private schools my entire life, and had been bullied at almost every one of them. I was very unhappy and not truly being myself. As soon as I walked into Philip Simmons, I knew it was the place for me. I have made many new friends over the past few years through programs and classes they offer. These include choir, theater, and sports. I really have found the people that support me here, and I have been able to come out and be myself here. Senior: The administration is very open with their students and parents and actually listen to them and their needs. They don't just make a decision based on their own views and opinions. They embrace the entire community and are willing to work with all families no matter their background. Their sports programs, however, need a lot of help with coaching. Senior: I like Carolina Forest High School because of so many things! there are so many opportunities to better yourself and secure your future when attending CFHS. Alum: I loved this high school, there were so many paths to choose from. They offer courses at the Donaldson center, fine arts center, they have several classes here, and they always make sure students do their best in the core classes. So many amazing teachers and faculty working here! The AP classes are amazing as well, they really get students prepared for college level classes while improving their overall GPA in high school.
