Parent: I have three children at WCS and we have been incredibly pleased with our experience! I went to a small private school and see many similarities between it and the experience my children are having at Woods. We have LOVED our teachers. My son is currently being placed into a reading intervention program to receive extra help. The school and specialists have been attentive and responsive to all of our questions. Senior: I transferred to Raleigh Charter my junior year of high school. I completed my junior year there and will complete my senior year there soon. I really like how academically challenging this school is in all aspects. I am by no means a STEM student, but there are a lot of rigorous STEM classes offered here. The humanities courses, which I prefer, are amazing as well. The teachers are extremely helpful and good at their jobs, and offer a lot of support inside and outside the classroom. The extracurricular activities that take place on campus are super fun and I always enjoy being an active part of the school community. One thing I think could change is the administration's responsiveness to issues that arise between students. Dissolving potential fights and preventing students from committing inappropriate actions from happening to other students is something that is not their strong suit. Senior: Community School of Davidson has the best teachers I have ever had, they truly care about you and they go out of their way to help you. For example I had emailed a teacher at 10:30 pm, and I didn't want or expect them to get back to me that night but sure enough at 11 pm they did. The learning style here is something I have never experienced, in that they don't have test ever week and in a history class I had we look at a war that happened and got articles from both countries that were involved to see how they both blamed each other. But the other students are nice, but most of the students have been there since preschool so they take our school for granted. Senior: Thomas Jefferson can be a quite challenging school which I believe is to the best benefit of all of its students. They pride themselves in creating students that are prepared for college and I think that is great. Most of the teachers are willing to work with each student to ensure the best for them and I personally believe that it’s one of the best experiences you can get out of the school. Senior: Based on the years I have attended Gray Stone Day School, there have been many opportunities for learning and growing as a person. With the multiple changes we have gone through within the years 2017 until the present day, I have learned more about myself within the environment of this school than I have ever learned anywhere else. My experience inside the school has not always been the best due to relationships with friends and even staff members but when brought to the attention of the administration, most of the time, something was done to stop discrimination. As being a white female at Gray Stone there wasn't much to discriminate but the idea of being a female was not always popular amongst some of the students there. When this was brought to one of my teachers, the stop was immediate and I grew more and more every day since. Parent: Cornerstone has been challenging, safe and tight-knit community for both of my children. There are events for elementary, middle and high school that are well-attended and supported by the PTO. The teachers love the students and their job and it shows! The school is safe, calm and well-run. My children have enjoyed all of their classes, as well as the sports, field trips and especially the AP offerings. We are so glad that we took a chance 10 years ago and enrolled in a brand new charter school that’s pillars are rigorous academics, character education and parent involvement. My daughter got into all 10 schools she applied to and earned scholarships to most of them. Our son is on the same track and we can’t wait for his accept letters to roll in this winter. Both are thankful for the opportunity to attend a school that focuses on the whole child and not just standardized test scores. If you are lucky enough to get into Cornerstone, accept the spot. Sophomore: The Early College at Guilford has a great community and great teachers. Although the trailers aren't the best, the environment overall is great. The school has an atmosphere towards academics. The first two years, especially Sophmore year, are the hardest because of AP classes, although you can get a lot of credit. Alum: I spent eight years at LNC and made great friends and even greater memories. The sporting events are always fun to attend, especially with the Knightmare student section. The majority of teachers are amazing and you have many opportunities to take AP and Dual Enrollment courses. They also have a great lunch program where you can order from places like Chik-Fil-A and Panda Express. Senior: Going to Montgomery County Early College has been one of the best choices I have ever made. From the start there has always been a family aspect between the students and teachers. There are less students within this school which gives more one on one time in subjects we need help in the most. I have also had moments where I would lean on a teacher for situations going on outside of school which I will cherish that forever. As far as clubs go, we have multiple and if there isn't one that interest you then you can create your own with friends as long as you have a teacher to supervise. Sports are not at our school but we are able to participate in the traditional high school sports. College readiness is a big thing here at our school, we are working on our associates while in high school so they strongly push and prepare us for a 4 year university. Freshman: My experience at Lee Early College has been great so far! The biggest part about what makes the school such a safe and welcoming environment is the connections the teachers make with the students. Since they are very nice and approachable, it makes it easy for students to get help on assignments and succeed in class. Unfortunately for prospective students, there aren't any electives or sports since this school is exclusively academics, but there are plenty of clubs to get involved in. Senior: Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies (NEAAAT) is great at providing hands-on learning opportunities and preparing students for public speaking, teamwork, and problem-solving. It has done a great job of preparing me for college-level activities and teaching me how to be responsible for my own work. My biggest dislike for this school comes from its considerably cramped building. The area where students go when they do not have a class, the legacy lounge, has no walls and is simply in a corner of the cafeteria. In another corner of the same cafeteria, a classroom with fold-up walls is present and used daily. Other: East Wake Academy is a college prep K-12 school. I feel like this school prepared me well for college other than not having a counselor my senior year. I went l school here since Kindergarten and grew close with my classmates over the years. I was in an officer position of student council all four years of high school and felt that I grew as a leader through my time in student council and other clubs. I felt supported by teachers and appreciated having the opportunity to do dual-enrollment classes that gave me high school credit and college credit.
