Alum: Great school for STEM interested students. The technology staff is extremely knowledgeable and they're involved with RIT's PLTW program for university credit (however if you do not plan on your child attending RIT make sure you understand which schools will accept these credits). Other major university programs include Niagara Universities NUSTEP program, for a history class and Syracuse's SUPA for a forensic science course class, as well as the college boards AP courses. The school also offers many resources to help students succeed with the SATs and ACTs. It's a safe school in the fact that the community it makes up is now very prone to violent acts, there's only one or two SROs, unlike some schools I've been to where there are legitimate police officers present. Junior: Lindenhurst High School occurs a variety of Regents level, Honors, College, and AP classes. Along with this, there are tons of clubs to choose from. The clubs offered are well suited to the student’s different interests. There are a large variety of sports, both junior varsity and varsity offered. The diversity at this school isn’t the best, since there are few minorities. Although this school isn’t very diverse, teachers make an effort to be inclusive and respectful to different cultures. There are a lot of language classes to choose from, and the Spanish classes are very popular. There are many teachers or administrators with controversial opinions politically which can make students feel uncomfortable. Junior: What I like about SLJ is that the environment is very inclusive. The staff and teachers actually care about the student's education. It doesn't feel like they are teaching just for the paycheck. They are very willing to teach as well as including their personality to make the spaces safe. There is also a lot of office hours from each teacher to get one-on-one support after school. This school also starts you early on preparing for college. From freshman year, they provide you with enough extra-curricular activities and opportunities from the college office and there are many clubs in school to get you more involved. Clubs such as gender alliance club, Black student union, Latino culture club, and peer connection. Senior: One thing I absolutely love about Goldstein is its small, tight-knitted community that's filled with such hardworking, and intelligent students who truly care about their grades and future. Most teachers develop great relationships with their students, and are flexible when it comes to grading and policies. The sanitation here is also extremely satisfactory. One of the qualities I value most about Goldstein is its competitive yet friendly nature. It not only pushes me to work harder but also provides me with a space to be myself. Furthermore, our school is surrounded by nature, and the bus stop is right outside our campus! However, while most students respect peers and staff, the incoming freshmen classes seem to be deteriorating the quality of our school by causing safety concerns. That is a problem I'm most concerned with and I'd want to be addressed. This school has a very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. The teachers really put in a lot of effort to assist students to reach their full potential. They recognize when you are struggling and do everything that they can in order to help and see you succeed. Fredonia is the type of school where everyone fits in. Alum: Fordham High School for the Arts was an amazing school. Even though you audition for one major for admission, you are given the chance during freshman year to try and experience other art majors just in case you change your mind or find a new interest. The teachers and staff truly want you to succeed and try to push you to perform at your highest. They are also very friendly and relatable and you can really have conversations with them as if they were your friends. The best part of my time there were definitely the trips. We had trips to see Hamilton, Hadestown, Porgie and Bess, and have even went to Lake Compounce. I also loved seeing what each department would put together at the end of every semester (I ALWAYS looked forward to the drama departments plays or musicals). I'm not sure if they are there now, but I did wish that we had lockers when I was there. It was a struggle to carry additional belongings, specifically your umbrella and coat. Alum: Middleburgh is a very tight-knit school, where who you know everyone that you attend with. It's possible to succeed and go on to doing great things, but it sometimes requires extra effort to get there since it is for such a small town.
