Alum: I'm a recent alumni who went to North Idaho STEM Charter Academy since 4th grade, and I can honestly say I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. The school takes itself seriously when it comes to academics, employing a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for the real world and higher level classes, as well as gives them the knowledge they need to succeed in college or the workforce. The teachers know their stuff - many of the high school teachers are certified to teach college credit, and they want to see you succeed. As for activities, there are a plethora of projects elementary and middle school participate in that are both fun and promote teamwork/learning, such as First Lego League and National History Day. High school has clubs like Quiz Bowl and Book Club that allow students to take a break from academics and hang out with friends while also pursuing their passions. Freshman: Victory’s school mission states that “When there is low threat and content is highly challenging, accelerated learning takes place.” In this school they promote this to the extreme. Everything you learn is considered academically challenging, and you may think that you might not be able to learn it, but as you work hard and study like how they promote, you will rise to the standard they set for you. Through both sports and academics, Victory has taught me a very valuable lesson, that is the importance of working hard. In order to have success both in school and in life you need to live up to your potential. Our cross country coach would always tell us that if something doesn’t challenge you it will not change you. Senior: I've been at Liberty Charter school since 4th grade, and I'll be graduating this week from Liberty. This school has such a great community. Everyday I'm surrounded with teachers, classmates, and friends that make going to school and learning an amazing experience. The rules are a lot stricter here, but they are still reasonable and manageable, and it's all worth it to be part of such a great environment. Parent: We are in our 10th year at Sage and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. We started in kindergarten, and their IB program provides so much hands-on inquiry-based learning to make school fun for young learners. The teachers are all amazing. There is no school on Fridays, giving students a chance to recoup or catch up on schoolwork, and the teachers and staff have a full day each week to collaborate, prep, and learn. Their middle school and high school programs are rigorous but fair, and do a wonderful job preparing our kids for college, career, and just life in general! Senior: Renaissance High is an excellent school for academically-motivated students. From the renowned International Baccalaureate program to the ISU AA program, students have the full support behind them of everybody from faculty to administration. There is not a better Idaho high school for college preparation! Renaissance also has great facilities - it is designed to reflect many aspects of a college with open ceilings and tables+chairs throughout. With that said, Renaissance is not without its flaws. Some are turned off by the lack of athletics at RHS, which is understandable. The school allows student athletes to compete with their boundary schools, but it's simply a different experience than the other athletes. The culture at RHS is very, very progressive and some may not be comfortable with that aspect either. Some students report feeling left out or even disliked if they do not fit in with this culture. Parent: Pros: Fantastic for letting children work at a pace that is right for them. This is a college prep school and the work required reflects that. The curriculum takes work both on the student's part and the learning coach's part. The teachers are helpful and care about the students doing well. Communication is wonderful. This school is a great choice if you want an online school with strong curriculum or if you want to homeschool your child but need some direction and want them to earn an accredited high school diploma. I do not regret choosing this school for my children and am excited to see where it takes them next! Cons: Most of the student body is in only one part of the state, leaving some students feeling disconnected from available activities due to travel times. The school appears to be working to remedy this, however, by arranging online fieldtrips that students from all parts of the state can attend. Senior: Xavier's main strength is creating unity. Two years ago, they created a "house" system where it is a class period for grades 7-12. We do many things such as mentorship, service, dancing, and competing in sports. For mentorship, an upperclassman would partner with a seventh grader and "mentor" them through their seventh-grade year. A plus about Xavier is that it is a small school. We are pretty much family because most of us have been at Xavier since kindergarten (Xavier has kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building). we know each other very well and the school makes an effort to do it. I also know that Xavier makes sure that bullying is always addressed and thought of as a very serious matter. We have a presentation at the beginning of every year and there is very little bullying. Junior: I am currently a junior at MMACHS and attending this school has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! The staff and students are amazing people, and to me, they feel like my second family. Everything at MMACHS is amazing, whether it be the academics or the extracurricular activities. Senior: I have loved my time at Meridian Technical Charter High School. The small class sizes have made me more confident in myself and my leadership skills. I love being able to have a close relationship with my teachers so they can get to know me as a student. The students are always eager to learn and you get a sense of community within your grade and even people outside of your grade level. Even though it's not your typical high school experience, MTCHS helps you prepare for life after high school. In my experience, my required senior year internship was not only paid, but they also hired me on as an employee when I was finished with my 280 hours. Not many people can say that they were able to get a full time job right out of high school in the field that they want to go into, and I only got that because of the internship program at MTCHS.... Parent: I have had children enrolled in the Taylor's Crossing elementary for the past 9 years. The level of academic instruction is phenomenal. Teachers teach to the high. Taylor's Crossing offers the perfect blend of not leaving any student behind while keeping students progressing so no one feels bored with their learning. It is a safe environment with extremely caring teachers and staff. Teachers are accessible and dedicated to helping children succeed. I have been even more impressed with their level of care during the pandemic. They do everything they can to keep our kids safe and progressing academically. I also appreciate that the school is not ok staying stagnant. They are constantly looking for ways to improve. In the past few years they have added a sports program, and are doing an excellent job for the size of school we are. Senior: I like the staff, and what the school values. The staff are always kinds, caring to students, and helpful. The teachers are amazing at what they do. The school values the sciences and the arts, has numerous sports and Cross fit programs, and helps connect students with Duel Credit Opportunities. Senior: North Star is a very tight-knit community that was very scary to walk into halfway through my high school career. However, these students are welcoming to new people as they are used to having exchange students (which is a whole other grand experience in itself). Alum: I absolutely loved my experience attending Idaho Fine Arts Academy! I attended my senior year of high school and from the first day both students and teachers helped me to feel completely included and welcomed. I felt the teachers truly cared about me and helping me to pursue my dreams. I was in the dance majors program and was able to achieve my childhood dream of choreographing and performing a dance solo at the end of the school year. This was all thanks to the amazing support I received from both my peers and teachers. I love the long lasting relationships I formed at the Academy. If I could change anything I would add a few more elective options for students. I would have loved to take an advanced Spanish class my senior year. Senior: I enjoyed participating with Thomas Jefferson Charter School from Kindergarten through my senior year. I particularly enjoyed the staff's adaptability for each student by providing more difficult and particularly useful skills to use not only for school but for life. Alum: My years at Boise High were interesting to say the least. Sophomore year it was still considered peak covid and we had hyrbid schedules until the 4th quarter. Junior year was everyone together and finally no masks at 4th quarter. SENIOR YEAR WAS NORMAL which I was ecstatic about. The teachers were great and we all did the best we could with what we had. In my three years I have felt welcomed by every teacher and got along with everyone. Gossip spread fast given it’s highschool but it never really affected people too much. The dances were very fun and no one had a student section like ours despite us not being the greatest at sports. Regardless of that the school spirit was INSANE and it was just amazing to be around. One thing I would say I would like to see change is there should be more students involved in student council and not just have members of stuco win and do everything all the time. Senior: I loved the freedom I had to study topics that I cared about or had questions about, not just whatever we were doing at the moment. That flexibility made me really enjoy my classes and feel competent in the skills I was learning. I feel like the amount of structure allowed me to be ready for the level of rigor expected in college, while still cultivating a love of learning. A lot of online schools are so disconnected, but so many of my teachers bridged the gap between students all over the country to unite us in our studies. It's so much more than just a stack of textbooks, it's somewhere that encourages each student to flourish as an individual and grow in both their strengths and weaknesses to all in all become a better student. Senior: Deary highschool is located in a very small town. Total town population is around 500, but the highschool averages 60 students per year. This makes enrollment have pros and cons. Some of the benefits of this school is the teacher to student ratio which is typically around 15-20 students per teacher in a class. Another benefit of the school is how close the students are and the sense of community you feel. This school is accommodating with a students past graduation requirements and tries to get new students on track to graduate . This school allows students to take several dual credit classes which gives students a head start on post highschool education. A con of this school is the limited elective options due to a lack of teachers to provide different classes. The school makes this up by allowing students to take classes through IDLA which has online classes, some of which are dual credit.
