Senior: This is an amazing school! No other school gives you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in college curriculum while still being in high school. Students are able to join college clubs and participate in research on the college campus while still being enrolled in high school. The teachers and other staff members are very willing to help you and make your experience here as smooth as possible. You may struggle a bit in ninth grade but after that it will get easier. Junior: Let me tell you, this high school is #1 in Florida and #4 in the nation for an excellent reason. This unique program 2-year program has been amazing. I have never been happier to switch to such a fantastic school. If you're lucky enough to be the few allowed into the school after applying, then you'll be able to experience a schedule that is unlike any other high school I have ever seen. You have 3 hours every single day to yourself (and college classes as this is a dual enrollment program) and to complete any work. The teachers and fellow students are just absolutely amazing! The environment is stunning as we are housed within a college campus; it's very open with lots of green! Not to mention this program allows you to start college 2 years early.. completely free! You don't exactly have a choice, however. I won't lie. The school is tough. You lose lots of free time. But it's so worth it! Just know how to balance your social and work life and you'll be fine!... Senior: My experience with this school has been amazing. I've always been a flexible person and the rigid structure from public school made it difficult for me to do good in classes. Ever since I started Broward Virtual school, I have been getting 80% or higher in my classes, and being independent made me learn how to structure my life unlike how some public schools don't. The faculty is also a plus! They are patient, understanding of everybody's situation and they are always there to help you. However, virtual school isn't for everybody. You have to learn how to plan out your week or sometimes your whole month (rarely though...)! If you are too flexible and aren't willing to put a little time into planning your schoolwork, that can be a severe downfall for you and straining for your teachers. Senior: Basically you are a college student. You take college courses that suit your career path. These are college courses that give actual college credit. This means when you graduate you get a high school diploma and an Associates degree. Since SPC is a relatively small college, the classes are tinier, making it easier to establish a connection with your professors. There are plenty of clubs around the high school you can join, and much more college clubs when you become a senior. There are classes that suit just about every major, so its okay to reconsider your classes. The high school has these weekly seminars that are all about college readiness. They talk about financial aid, SAT & ACT, and the college application process. The campus has a Nature's Table cafe. Its genuinely the most delicious and healthiest food I've ever had. Alum: My school and campus, specifically, had overwhelming support for its students. The school counselor and teachers wanted all of us to succeed and it was really important to receive such support, especially at a dual enrollment school. I truly believe that I would not have accomplished as many things as I had during my time there if I wasn't enrolled at SAS. Junior: Being a student in such a small school has this huge advantage: Each student has a plethora of opportunities to meet with teachers and ask for some extra help! I have a rigorous ballet schedule, that requires my focus and attendance most of the hours of the day. Junior: I attended Jose Marti Mast for the past six years, and while this school has played a significant role in who I am as a person today, it was not without its faults. JMMA has provided me with a stellar education and teachers dedicated to their students, but it has failed in terms of activities and class unity. Lack of school spirit developed from poorly planned outings and in-school projects, making it harder to create a linked community. When students have concerns, it is challenging to turn to a staff that tends to be just as lost and misinformed as we are. Senior: I've attended Marco Island Academy most of my high school tenure. I came to the school as a sophomore. I found it easily to adjust since it's a small school. It's great the class sizes are small and the teachers get to know the kids. Since the classes are small it's easy to get to know other kids. Even though the school is small it still has all the sports that a large high school has. Additionally, the administration staff truly cares about the kids. I find it very easy to reach out if I need help at anytime with my assignments etc. Although I will be graduating this year, they have started building a new school which will be wonderful once it's complete.
