Alum: I went to the MET a few years ago. The MET was pretty good, but the standard classes were really underwhelming. I came from a school that had a GATE program, so I was ahead of my grade level at the time, but the classes were not fulfilling my needs. Thankfully, I had the ability to apply to college courses, which was great! I will say though: pay attention to the relationship between you and your advisor if you ever decide to go here. Senior: At first my experience was a bit rough. I was online because of covid and so I basically wasn’t able to go to in person school furing freshmen year til March of 2021. It was hard because half of the week was online and half of the week was in person. But sophomore year was when things started again. I was able to go to football games, dances, and other school events. I was in student government as well which meant I got to help out with all of the school events. But there was still restrictions on some these events which made it hard to enjoy. On my birthday, people protested about masks, which I will never forget. Junior year, things started getting back to normal and I got to enjoy the little things and appreciate them even more. I became friends with so many more people, I was still in student government and I was the Junior class vice president. It was so much fun and I really enjoyed junior year. Senior: Davis is a very college-oriented school and I can confidently say that the staff here wants to see the students succeed. Just recently the school finished constructing a new robotics building and they are constantly improving and adding to their academics. The parking here is quite limited, I will say, and in general they do have a problem with accommodating for the large number of students on the relatively small campus. However, I can tell that they are slowly but surely addressing the issues and the more important aspects of school they do well on. Senior: Natomas Charter School is one of the most welcoming and accepting environments to be in. The community is unlike any other, with so many opportunities to express yourself through your chosen art form. However, as a visual artist myself, our department gets the least funding out of the offered art forms (Drama, music, vocal, and dance). We can't go on the same fieldtrips, have as many showcasing events, and the teachers have to ask students at the beginning of each year for donations. We contribute so much beautiful work to our school, and deserve more recognition and financial support. In addition to this, the access to mental health support is limited. For all four years of my time at Natomas Charter, I have been fighting to gain a 504 plan to have accommodations. This has been a constant struggle with admin, with my concerns being dismissed and attempts to reach out not being responded to. Freshman: My experience at Granite Bay High School so far is great! There are many amazing resources provided in Granite Bay's Grizzly Bulletin (a newsletter sent home on the weekends) such as Teen Advisory Board openings. I have also been presented the opportunity to get involved with ~60 on-campus clubs, as well as campus organizations such as Dance, Band, Theater, Media, Yearbook, and Student Government. The sports teams are also very well planned out and my experience on the tennis team was very fun! There are secret gifts at matches as well as team socials. The Student Government, Media, and Yearbook do a wonderful job of making sport's players feel appreciated and recognized. Senior: The best part of Franklin High School are the standards for academics, and the several class options students have the ability to choose from. The school consists of very prestigious students, and a lot of see this as a challenge, but also extra motivation to be the best students we can be in and out of the classroom. There are also so many opportunities for students to become leaders and organize clubs and organizations within the community. This allows students to feel like they are a part of something, which is needed. In my opinion, the worst part is the fact that the majority of the school comes from middle to high-class backgrounds. There are also many students from low-income families, but this creates a lot of division between people. Because of this, at times, the school does not feel like a community when it should be. Senior: Whitney High School provides a plethora of opportunities for everyone, allowing students to be more than prepared for moving to that next step. My senior year has been a breeze with college applications and future planning because my administration and staff/counselors gave us all a multitude of resources. Junior: Going into Sheldon High School I was naturally worried about how I'd be able to adjust to such a big change in my life from distance learning to a live in-person school. But the whole campus is very easy to navigate and the teachers for the vast majority of my classes have been really good at helping me understand the class. I've also been able to make so many lasting memories with people that I doubt I could meet if I didn't go to Sheldon. Senior: My best experience at the school would have to be the friendships and socialization I was allowed to have. I have made amazing life long friends through the high school that wouldn’t have been possible without the school. Alum: I have tried many different kinds of courses such as AP, honnors, extracurricular activities & sports! There's so many to choose from & they are always so welcoming! I've participated in V.A.P.A activities and won medals as well as some in wrestling! I made a ton of friends and made it through so many challenges with my friends and staff! My best experience is my senior year as we got to wrap up everything and got to do the amazing things with my friends as well as getting ready for my senior speech and projects! It was a ton of fun! A thing I can say however, I wish to be changed for the future is lunch time. We only have 30 minutes, and that's barely enough to get our food in a very long line, sit down and eat. I do wish in the future it can be on average maybe an hour, or at least more shade outside to sit and eat.Some staff as well can try to be a little bit more understanding at times, but as from what I had, it was pretty good. Sophomore: I am a Sophomore at El Camino coming from Arcade Middle School and I would 100% recommend you attend there. We have amazing programs such as a medical CT pathway, EPI (Eagles Polytechnical Institute) CT pathway, AVID, Student Government, several different art/media classes (even our own radio station), and so much more! Although we may not have some classes other schools have, our school is very good with being flexible with dual enrollment and taking apex courses/classes at other schools. We also have a great environment with a smaller student population so it isn't as overwhelming as other schools may be. (Plus we are across the street from Dutch Bros...just saying.) Alum: Sacramento New Technology High school is a small but very welcoming school with a friendly ambiance. The fact that the school is smaller than other made getting help so much easier and faster.
