Junior: Let me tell you, this high school is #1 in Florida and #4 in the nation for an excellent reason. This unique program 2-year program has been amazing. I have never been happier to switch to such a fantastic school. If you're lucky enough to be the few allowed into the school after applying, then you'll be able to experience a schedule that is unlike any other high school I have ever seen. You have 3 hours every single day to yourself (and college classes as this is a dual enrollment program) and to complete any work. The teachers and fellow students are just absolutely amazing! The environment is stunning as we are housed within a college campus; it's very open with lots of green! Not to mention this program allows you to start college 2 years early.. completely free! You don't exactly have a choice, however. I won't lie. The school is tough. You lose lots of free time. But it's so worth it! Just know how to balance your social and work life and you'll be fine!... Alum: My school and campus, specifically, had overwhelming support for its students. The school counselor and teachers wanted all of us to succeed and it was really important to receive such support, especially at a dual enrollment school. I truly believe that I would not have accomplished as many things as I had during my time there if I wasn't enrolled at SAS. Junior: Being a student in such a small school has this huge advantage: Each student has a plethora of opportunities to meet with teachers and ask for some extra help! Junior: Within this school there have been an abundance of teachers who have a genuine passion for what they teach and you see it reflected in their tone when tackling certain topics in their classes and how they interact with students. Though this may be so, the amount of work given to children even before college is a thought to them is unheard of in other schools and thus had led to horrendous mental health across the student body. Yes, we are all very much so prepared for the world ahead, but this was all done at the sacrifice of ourselves. Our priorities get rearranged for this school to have what it wants because we know 'it is good for us.' This pigeonholing is worsened when the few uninterested teachers, insist that they are the only professors that actually matter. A minority, yes, but a very arrogant one. Senior: The teachers in the school are amazing! I can't stress this enough! They are so interactive and often teaches in ways the students love! They build bonds with their students which makes the learning process more fun! Senior: In my Sophomore Year of High School I decided to give Miami Arts Studio a try. I was extremely depressed in my previous school. I was also scared to go somewhere new and have no friends. However, it was the best decision I have ever made! The faculty, the students, the environment was all I ever needed to feel confident and succeed. Junior: To be completely honest, this school is an amazing school with great opportunities. You can apply and take dual enrollment classes, ap classes, honors classes, etc. The teachers are amazing and teach with great responsibility and care. My freshman year wasn't the best, because I overworked myself. I took classes I thought I could handle, but it was later revealed that I couldn't. In sophomore year, I decided to take a break from the ap and difficult classes and tried my best in honors. I would say I was overdue for a break. it was one of the best years of my school life and I made lots of friends. one thing that I would like to see change is the favoritism in this school. Senior: Choosing Cutler Bay Senior High was the best decision I've ever made in my life. The school is small in population. The aforementioned fact contributes to some major qualities that make CBSH amazing. Due to the size of the school, instruction becomes more individualistic and everyone of all learning types have an equal opportunity to thrive. The size also aids in maintaining the serene and loving environment that the school is notorious for. Everyone knows EVERYONE. Senior: I was in the visual communications strand. My passion for graphic design developed exponentially through my time there, though my explorations were pretty self-directed. The teacher is leaving this year so it'll probably be different next year. I know that the architecture teacher is great. The workload is quite intense, and if you expect to have flawless grades, you'll have to work significantly harder than in some other schools, as you have to produce quality art for a decent grade regularly. Senior: This school is like no other. When I was in 10th grade, I was looking for something to challenge me and I prayed to God to get in and by his grace, I did get in. This school pushed me to understand how important our schedule is not just in school, but outside of it. In doing that I started to change the way I did things. So, I longer said, "when I get home I'll do my homework" but instead I started to say, "When I get home at 6:00 I'll do my homework in my room". Senior: In my time at BioTECH, I have experienced good and bad moments. The opportunities given at BioTECH are things that you can't get at most schools. They allow us to gain experience with interviews, internships, real-world projects, all that have to do with the world we live in. And at the same time, we are completing all high school credits needed to graduate. While I do believe that this school is wonderful, some things regarding the mental health of students can go over the head of faculty at moments. This isn't only a problem at BioTECH, it's a very common issue, but I do understand that people often do take advantage of mental health concerns. I personally have struggled with depression and social anxiety and in my previous year at BioTECH this was severely triggered when I was in my deepest moment and teacher didn’t take into account when I politely asked to be left out of a particular activity. Junior: Its a good school with a great program for business education and winning money through 3 yearly competitions for college education, each competition giving you a chance to earn $10,000 through your hard work during class time, and at times after-school. The school sports are exceptional, with a highlight being Southwest's Eagle Empire Wrestling Team. However, as I am passionate about our business program, I'd like to see its main coursework in the first two years change to be more rigorous in teaching students real skills to get a business off the ground, not just the buzz-words and main concepts but asking students what industries they're interested in, helping them develop their social skills/marketing abilities, and giving assignments which work the critical thinking skills of students, especially making them consider what it is they really want to work towards in their lives.
