Parent: My daughter has gone to TAMC from 2nd-5th grade and we’ve had a really great experience. This doesn’t mean there haven’t been hiccups or maybe teachers that weren’t ‘perfect’ but seriously some of these bad reviews on here are ridiculous lol. This is her 4th year with the same after-school providers, and they are excellent as well. Helpful when there is an issue and they work hard to keep an entire lunch room of children under control. They do homework and have a fun activity every day. The teachers are probably teachers like you’d find anywhere else, some go above and beyond and some simply do what they need to, but the attitude and moral of the staff is what makes a difference. It seems like they are happy to be there, and we all know that being a teacher in this day is beyond hard. The teachers we’ve had have always been willing to help work through tough academic times and offer support or advice on how to best help my child. Front office is always helpful and pleasant.... Parent: Having been at the school since its inception and assisting in many ways from start-up fundraising, marketing, assisting in the classroom and coaching, I can tell you that the Scholars’ Academy is a gifted school like no other. With my three children attending (one having had AWEFUL experiences in public school before being identified as twice gifted), they were able to freely explore their intellectual abilities and create solid lifelong friendships. All organizations have growing pains and our school may not be perfect for your student… that is an opportunity for the parent to find the right place where their student flourishes! Parent: SCA is the cream of the crop for elementary/middle schools. Their curriculum is top notch. This shows in the students attitudes and test scores. The teachers really know how to relay the information to the students. I do think a little smaller student to teacher ratio would be better. Rooms seems a little overcrowded. Parent: My child is in the Single Subject Acceleration Math program. This school differs from other Wake County schools that offer this program in that all the math classes, regardless of grade, occur at the same time. That means my second grade son can skip his second grade math and go next door to attend third grade math without sacrificing a non-math class. Other Wake County schools do not make such effort to align all the math classes. For example, at our previous school, my son would have to skip language arts in order to attend the next grade level math (3rd grade), all while still stuck taking 2nd grade level math - that is, he would take both 2nd and 3rd grade level math and miss his language arts.... Parent: I have three children at WCS and we have been incredibly pleased with our experience! I went to a small private school and see many similarities between it and the experience my children are having at Woods. We have LOVED our teachers. Parent: A small, quirky charter school that feels like a family. With a total student enrollment of less than 425 from K-8, and only 2 classes per grade level it is truly a small school. From K-5 Teachers "loop" with the same classes for 2 years. A major focus on Inquiry, lots of hand on and exploration built into the curriculum. Teachers are caring and well qualified. Students are from diverse backgrounds and all bring a unique valued perspective. No buses, but before and after school care is available. Parent: As a parent of two Socrates Academy elementary school scholars I am thoroughly impressed at how much my children have learned and how happy they are with their teachers and classmates. Their teachers are always available to answer any questions I have about my children’s progress, while addressing my concerns with empathy and support. It is so inspiring to see such and active parent faculty involvement group that energizes school spirit while successfully fundraising for the school. Finally, the school is expanding into a state of the art high school which for me illustrates how much the School Board is investing into the development and growth of its students. I would love to see some improvement on the school lunch options and the older school building can use some improvements. However, all in all Socrates Academy is a beautiful diverse school and community. Parent: best school in the area! Nothing compares. They have an amazing AIG program that is constantly offering options to children that are advanced. They also have amazing methods for children that have a little extra energy. The art and music teachers are far more advanced than I expected. Safety was never a concern, their facility is constantly locked, surveillance in place, immediate contact from front office to each classroom, and executive leaders are regularly visiting the classes. The police department, ems, and fire department visit the kids regularly. They have 2 teachers per class and only 15-17 students. The teachers are all on the same page at every grade with the same approach to redirecting children, academic and social growth. Tiller provided an amazing opportunity to slightly disabled children by not segregating them to a special class. The PTSO at Tiller was exceptional! Parent: I have had 2 children attending Arts Based School. I love everything about the curriculum and faculty. My children enjoy the environment and exposure to the arts. There are sacrifices, however. No school cafeteria. No school buses. And not the most diverse population. However, what the school lacks in diversity it makes up for in open mindedness. Niche User: I like the small classes, it helps with focused studies. They can somehow cram all that knowledge but make it feel like a game of paper. The diversity has risen over the years, and lots of the kids are nice. It helps prepare students for upcoming years and incorporates all of the "specials" and "electives" into the classes or you can sign up for an after school activity. You get to bring your own food which helps with allergy and health worries from stressed parents. I've seen two very nice janitors and lots of encouraging words all around. Senior: Community School of Davidson has the best teachers I have ever had, they truly care about you and they go out of their way to help you. For example I had emailed a teacher at 10:30 pm, and I didn't want or expect them to get back to me that night but sure enough at 11 pm they did. The learning style here is something I have never experienced, in that they don't have test ever week and in a history class I had we look at a war that happened and got articles from both countries that were involved to see how they both blamed each other. But the other students are nice, but most of the students have been there since preschool so they take our school for granted. Also the students there are 85% well off, which isn't a bad thing but there just isn't a diversity of wealth or race. Overall CSD is a good school and they try their best!... Read 77 reviews

Parent: We have had a fantastic experience at Exploris. We had two kids start when they expanded to elementary in 2014 and my youngest was lucky enough to start there in K. My oldest has since moved on to HS (for which she was extremely well prepared) and still says she misses Exploris. The culture and community at the school are warm and welcoming. They are making a real effort to become more diverse, which can be hard for charters without funds for transportation. The curriculum is project or theme based, so that content is linked to real life, particularly in the middle school. My kids have done great academically, but we've really enjoyed the "whole child" education approach. It is turning my children into compassionate, kind thinkers that will see problems around them and feel empowered to tackle them. If you're looking for a ton of sports, Exploris is not for you, but my kids have enjoyed club offerings and enrichment classes through Explorations.... Read 4 reviews
