Alum: All districts and schools are what you make of them. From the best districts to the not so great, there are always going to be those teachers who are ineffective. Getting rid of them cost way too much money and is near impossible. That being said, my family and I have had great experiences in the district. Senior: Commack School District is an interesting place. It seems to have something for every student. It has a very strong academic program. Commack High School recently was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Our students are high achievers and excel at all levels. Students are regularly receiving awards at academic competitions. However our District also supports students who have special needs or who wish to pursue careers in the trades. We have programs that allow students to travel off campus to study the specific trade careers they are interested in. Our schools also have many different types of extracurricular activities to become involved with that cover almost every interest a student can have. And we have a large number of sports teams which always perform well. Middle School Student: Three village Central school district is the best place to find what you love. There so many clubs for EVERYTHING, want to build machines? Join our amazing Science Olympiad team! Want to sing, act, and dance? Join our very talented drama club! Three village district is also very non tolerant with bullying so everyone feels super safe to be who they are in our schools. There isn't much I would want to change but there is one thing I think would make Three Village even better, a club where we learn how to start business for young entrepreneurs (although im a die hard fan of the Science Olympiad club.) Senior: Going to Islip Union Free School District for my whole life has entirely prepared me for college. Between the resourceful staff and one-on-one discussions with guidance counselors and teachers, I have never felt more ready for college. The teachers have a great understanding of each of their students as well as being able to connect with students personally. Having a healthy student-teacher relationship is dire in order for success in education, and the teachers at Islip School District are student oriented! Freshman: Center Moriches has been a amazing place to learn and grow throughout my high school career. Our school offers many clubs and sports. Our soccer team is amazing, and won to New York State Class Championship. Our robotics team has won numerous competitions and get the opportunity to go to the World Championship this April. Our school excels in providing one on one personal guidance. I personally enjoy how our school is smaller than most, so I know everyone and we all are pretty much friends and know each other. The school gets to use the new turf field and sports complex provided by the town for our Varsity home games and offers several practice fields for soccer, football, softball, baseball, etc. I always feel safe in Center Moriches and with the small student to teacher ratio, I get the most out of a forty minute class!... Senior: I’ve been going to Amityville Schools since i was 5. Amityville has always made me feel welcomed and included. Growing up in amityville i saw how much teachers and mentors care about kids academics and kids mental health. My favorite things is how involved parents can get, and how much help the school offers not just with school but also mental health. They take it all very seriously and it makes me feel safe. Being able to go down and talk to a teacher about what’s bothering you might be scary but in Amityville they make sure to listen to you and give you resources. As a senior in Amityville High School i’ve seen how important the voices of the students matter and how they take our ideas and concerns into consideration, and they make a change. They have always taught us to speak up about anything and i’ve learned that teachers and adults there really do care about the students. Junior: The school itself is amazing. It provides students with all sorts of opportunities that one could ever wish for. From a list of around 30 AP classes to various honors classes and even more college programs, amazing extra departments such as the constantly award winning music and arts and the tech department with their own shop, longwood offers so many things that one will definitely find what they are looking for here. There are many partnerships with near by universities to provide students with even more opportunity. This school is a very good school for athletics, and has 5 gyms with various extra athletic facilities. Athletics sometimes even take over academics. The teachers are very open, welcoming, and policies current. The only issue is with the public that attends the school as the masses aren’t the best. Sophomore: Cold Spring Harbor is a very good school district. The staff is excellent. The majority of the teachers at all levels of education are informative and empathetic. The variety of clubs and activities is decent for a fairly small district. The atmosphere is welcoming and most students are quite courteous. Even though there is a lack of diversity, relatively little prejudice and bigotry exists. Senior: Westhampton Beach is a very safe and friendly children/ family environment/ school and town in general. The sports teams are very good and competitive, but also it gets the entire community to be involved to come out and support the teams. There are a lot of general community activities and involvement within the school community, the teachers are great and very helpful with almost anything you might need guidance with. The school is not very diverse, mainly Caucasian with other exceptional races. Westhampton is technologically advanced with tools, and resources students have available to them, including laptops. Alum: I loved my time at Elwood! As an alum, I look back fondly on the ways I was able to get involved and how I was supported by faculty & staff. However, as I was graduating I noticed changes in the school that I believe are trending in the wrong direction. The things I loved about the school were those that gave me and my peers autonomy; giving us room to grow and prepare for the world beyond high school. Administration is becoming more restrictive to students, not adequately preparing them for the challenges that come with next steps like college.
