Senior: I have had a good experience at North Reading High School. The academics are very good with many options to choose from. The teachers are always available for extra help whenever you need it and always very supportive. It is a small school, so all the teachers really know their students well. Sadly, there here is not much diversity in the school due to the population of North Reading. The entire town could benefit from more diversity. I have participated in school sports my entire high school career. The sports are decent for a small school and offer some competition. Junior: Wayland High School is a school that prepares you for college. The teachers help you with understanding independent work, while still letting you figure it out on your own, prepping you for how life is like outside of high school. The arts programs are excellent, however the sports aren't very highly-rated. The school has a small student body, however this allows for a more tight-knit academic community. Academic-wise, the classes offered push students for full comprehension. AP classes aren't offered until Junior year, excluding AP Computer Science in sophomore year. Senior: I liked the community that I was a part of in the RMHS marching band. We had 4 month season that started in the summer and continued until Nov. It included summer band camp, performing at football games, parades and most importantly competitions. I met all my close friends in the band and have great memories of all or our experiences. One thing I would like change is the amount of freedom that was given during our senior year. Sophomore: I’ve been in Tewksbury my whole life and I have met a lot of great people and the teachers really care about their students. Only problems I’ve had are with communication from administrators and the resources we are made aware of for our future. While those two negatives are relatively significant, the friends I have made make up for it. If you end up attending TMHS take advantage of all the clubs they offer and try something new. Senior: Melrose High School is a place where you can receive a well education and will set you on a great path to success. Many of the teachers genuinely care about their students and their well being, this including working with a student on his/her personal needs in order to do well in all aspects. Senior: I really loved the academic opportunities I had and the constant push to learn more. I was always encouraged to learn more and exercise my academic curiosity whether it be in class or extracurriculars. In particular, I had a wonderful experience with the Speech and Debate team in which I found a second family and got to compete in something I am passionate about. The student-led leadership in Newton is also something to mention since many of the campaigns and activities are brought to fruition by students. Senior: Overall, I liked my experience with Stoneham Public Schools. Although the high school physically isn't in the best shape, it has a pretty good education system, a good range of classes and levels of them, good sports, and many clubs and organizations. The community in Stoneham is tightly-knit and the Spartan spirit is seen throughout the entire school year in all grades. With packed football games, peer tutoring, and all inclusive clubs, the school does a great job of creating a supportive community. In my younger years, I always enjoyed going to school, thrived in my classrooms thanks to my teachers, and was involved. The only thing I wish we had access to was different leveled courses in middle school. Nonetheless, my teachers were all nice and reasonable. I would say a good change would be to hire more diverse teachers and staff. Senior: Lexington High School has allowed me to further my academic career and gave me the resources I needed to prepare thus far for life after high school. Not only do I find the academics at Lexington High School to maintain great variety and challenge, but I also think that the school does a wonderful job of taking into account the student's feedback within specific classes or regarding specific professors. One thing that I think Lexington High School could improve on is their accessibility to mental health resources. Throughout my four years at Lexington High School, I often found that access to speak with teachers or counselors was limited unless you had already formed a strong relationship with said person. Another thing that I think Lexington High School could improve on is their overall treatment of students participating in the METCO program. Sophomore: Personally, I liked the location of the district, especially in the suburbs. I enjoyed going downtown with friends and hanging out afterschool in town center. Amongst my classmates, I didn't know everyone, but I was comfortable going to school and not worrying about being bullied. I also liked the facilities, as they are pretty new and they seem welcoming for students. The academic environment is fairly competitive, and everyone is overly busy, so mental health struggles and peer pressure is extremely normal. I loved my teachers, but I've also had some who didn't care at all, and hated their job. This made their class unenjoyable, but these unpleasant memories are concealed by the majority of my experiences with lovely teachers. There is also a vaping issue, and I wished the school took bigger measures to educate teenagers about the negative consequences from these habits. I am currently attending Northeastern University, a college that I would never have thought that I would attend. Maynard's advantages such as small student to faculty ratios, above average course offerings, and intimate classroom settings combined with the teachings of overcoming the challenges of a small school district allows students to thrive and become experienced young adults. Senior: Marlborough offers a STEM Program which focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math. Through that program I got to participate in a project based learning at Raytheon for a week with real world engineers. Marlborough offers a STEM week once a year for all of the middle school grades 6th-8th. During this week all curriculum is hauled and the children construct projects and learn about STEM. Marlborough has a wide variety of sports and always has at least one team make it to playoffs within the three seasons of sports offered. The music department in the school district is very advanced and at the high school level there are three audition groups. Each group performs at MICCA a music competition in the spring and gets ranked with a bronze, silver, or gold medal. Along with MICCA, the music department participates in Florida and Washington D.C. trips. Marlborough offers over 50 school clubs for anyone and everyone.
