Middle School Student: This school offers a lot of different types of learning opportunities. The teachers here have good teaching techniques and do listen and consider to parent and students advice. Sixth grade is an amazing year that is worth the wait. There is a field trip to main and leadership club. Leadership club is an organization for well-behaved and hardworking students. These students go down to lower grades to help the teachers in the morning for a small amount of time. There are very strict rules on all types of bullying. This school creates a fun learning environment for all ages.... Read 1 review

Parent: We love Montrose School for our middle school girls for so many wonderful reasons. The positive school environment, the support provided to the students and the excellent faculty who care deeply for girls. Due to the low student - teacher ratio - teachers get to know the students very well and encourage excelling students to expand and go deeper or provide extra help for students who need it. The combination of excellent instruction with self study & self reviewing of their homework has worked well for our girls to reinforce their learnings. Of special note is the mandatory class for all middle-schoolers called "Habits of Mind", which teaches students how to form healthy learning habits, manage stress, importance of sleep, etc. Excellent learning for young and old alike! This was our first year at Montrose and making the switch has definitely been worth the time and effort. Healthy learning is priceless!... Read 74 reviews

Alum: My experience at Cushing prepared me to navigate the real world; it’s not the best school and it’s not perfect, but it’s the right fit for a lot of people and the teachers care a lot! The sports are usually taken seriously and I believe the focus on keeping resources evolving and prioritizing a strong sense of community for students can make or break a HS experience. overall I am glad I spent most of my HS career here.... Parent: St. John's is providing an excellent academic and social environment for our children in middle school. They were not being challenged as much as they needed in our local public school, so we switched from MCPS, and couldn't be happier. They are not only challenged academically at St. John's, but they are also encouraged to think on a deeper level about their faith, which is important to our family. Opportunities abound for involvement in leadership activities, the arts and athletics. The small school setting allows all the children to get to know each other, no matter what grade they're in, so it feels more like a big family. We love that STJES is also teaching them life skills such as talking to their teachers/adults, public speaking, respecting one another, as well as advocating for themselves. Additionally, there is an emphasis on community service within and outside of the school throughout the year. It's been a great experience, and we're very thankful to have found St. John's!...
