Alum: I liked the challenge of the classes and the amount of electives offered. I think most of the teachers were great, but the math department could be better. There are some teachers who get frustrated easily and don't seem to like their job very much. Additionally, I think the school could be more inclusive in hiring teachers of color.... Read 199 reviews

Middle School Student: Great school and great teachers. They teach you all the things you need to know at ur level. They have lower classes and higher classes. I’m a student that goes there and every quarter I get high honor roll. Teachers help you and support you in the all the ways they could. There is even extra support classes for students who need extra help during school time, and they’re all for free! Give kids a lot of freedom in school. Teacher also engage with students, they’re not only their teacher but also friends and role model. Teachers also joke around to make classes more fun and not as boring. There is always projects that kids have that give them opportunity to work in groups and learn how to socialize.... Read 3 reviews

Parent: Hewitt is a wonderful school! My daughter has attended Hewitt since Kindergarten (now in High School). She has been challenged and supported by many wonderful teachers every year. Hewitt focuses on using research to develop the curriculum and train teachers which means they know how girls learn. The girls themselves have increasing levels of input and leadership in the activities and projects they are interested in. It's an environment where every student is known and student perspective is valued and included in decisions big and small. The community is warm, welcoming and committed to creating a joyful environment where girls thrive. My daughter is happy and has been well prepared for college and beyond.... Read 78 reviews

Parent: I have a current 4th and 5th grader at HES, both of whom have been at the school since 2nd grade. Their teachers have been truly remarkable in inspiring the students' interest in learning. All of their instructors have been great at actually getting to know the students individually and thus understanding how to best present new material to them. The curriculum itself has been very strong. I have been happy with the enrichment the school has provided the academically motivated students. The open communication between the administration and the parents is commendable as well. It's nice to know that my children are being watched out for while we aren't around.... Read 4 reviews

Parent: Both my children went to Ogden, and the experience they had was awesome. The teachers were very supportive and knowledgable. The music program was super. Both my kids went from I hate playing string instrument to loving it. The PTA is so strong that they were able to sponsor 5th graders on a cruise around Statue of Liberty and bounce away at Chelsea Piers (which both my kids went). I don't think I had any of that experience when I went to school.... Read 3 reviews

Alum: Compared to other high schools in the area, Lawrence High School was very diverse. During the college application process, the guidance counselors and teachers were very helpful. Finding summer opportunities is something I didn't know I needed to do until a teacher brought it up to me. This is important for STEM-related majors as colleges like to see that you completed activities related to your major. Lawrence High School provided many extracurricular activities and has an extensive line of sports. The elective classes are great as well as the selection of AP courses helping in the preparation for college.... Read 149 reviews

Senior: What I like about Valley Stream Christian Academy is the closeness that everyone has to each other. It is a very close-knit family dynamic. The teachers are amazing at what they do. They give every student the chance to take some time to understand the material before going forward with the work. Sophomore: Al-Ihsan Academy is located in South Ozone Park on Rockaway Boulevard. It is a small school, with around 500-600 students. The school has three different locations, all on Rockaway. The school runs from pre-kindergarten all the way until high school. The school allows students to start high school classes and gain high school credits from the 8th Grade. This allows the students to graduate when they are in 11th Grade rather than 12th Grade, which is contrary to many other high schools. This allows students to get a head start, starting college a year earlier than most.... Read 38 reviews

Parent: FECC is the most nurturing environment for little learners! My older child attended kindergarten at a public school in Brooklyn and when we moved and she attended first grade at FECC the difference was palpable. She came home that first day and declared this was “the best school ever!” My younger child was fortunate to begin his education there. The school teaches the children all the basics while maintaining a level of child friendly fun (special days, events, activities). All of my Children’s teachers have been so communicative and open to any questions/concerns/suggestions. The school offers after school care, after school clubs organized by the amazing pta, after school enrichment classes (like math club), and special events like the amazing one world celebration!...
