Alum: My exchange year experience in St. Timothy’s school was excellent. I’m from Spain and I spent my sophomore year as a boarder. I had never spent a year away from home and I was terrified at first but after only a month this school felt like a new home to me and I made friends that are like family. The girls were very welcoming and I made friends from all over the world. Right now after two years I still keep in touch with them, I’ve recently come to Maryland to visit my best friend from school. One of the best things about St. Tim’s are the teachers, I could always count on them for an extra explanation which made adapting to the IB program easy. After some time I even switched to harder classes! St. Tim’s allowed me to grow as a person, I went from being very shy to being confident and independent. Alum: I attended Park School for 13 years (Kindergarten-12th Grade) and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. I received a phenomenal education which prepared me well for college and taught me core values of advocating for myself, thinking outside the box, challenging my mind and more! The teachers want nothing more than for their students to succeed which is made possible by their incredible teaching as well as other recourses Park offers such as tutoring, counseling, and more! I honestly have nothing bad to say about Park School and after 13 years, I believe that speaks for itself. She is currently in 6th grade and has blossomed into a wonderful student, a passionate leader, and a caring community member. Garrison offers the most caring, encouraging, welcoming and, simultaneously, academically rigorous experience. Every person on that campus wants our daughters to succeed. Senior: I came to FSB as a freshman in 2019, and even throughout the COVID pandemic, I loved my time there. The other students were always friendly, which I appreciated immensely, especially as I transitioned from a middle school where I did not fit in at all. I found several groups, formed either organically/randomly or by shared extracurriculars, that I felt entirely at ease with. The teachers were incredibly supportive. I am graduating with a stronger enthusiasm for subjects like English that I liked as a freshman, and a newfound love for math and music. While I was often stressed out by assignments or exams, when I look back that stress pales in comparison to how much I enjoyed my classes, rehearsals (I loved my time in chorus and the musicals), and friendships. Parent: My son attended 5th grade at the St. Paul's School for boys last year and will be entering 6th grade Fall 2023. He was nervous at first coming from the coed lower school. I appreciate the school's transition process in place to prepare the students and help them to feel comfortable. By the first day of 5th grade my son was more excited and less nervous. His excitement to go to school increased as the year progressed. Being in middle school did have it's challenges as my son was learning to navigate through social challenges of interacting with his peers and advocating for himself with his teachers. I must say that I have been pleased with the level of involvement and response from teachers and administrators. I saw my son grow, gaining knowledge that goes beyond the classroom. Senior: After being homeschooled between the ages of eight and thirteen, and looking to get back into public school, attending Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (more widely referred to as "Poly") appeared to be the next best step for me. Poly has been considered one of the top schools in Baltimore City for many years thanks to its selective entrance process, various academic pathways, and rigorous courseload. Overall, the three years I have spent at Poly have been positive. The school environment is safe with multiple security measures (metal detectors, personnel, etc.). The atmosphere is pleasant, with strong school spirit and teachers that work to establish a real bond with their students. On the other hand, a few improvements could be made. For example, absent teachers are typically replaced with substitutes who are not skilled in the subject, which greatly hinders their classes' ability to advance. Freshman: Western Tech is a great school for those interested in the magnet programs they offer! Freshman year has been great and every day is certainly memorable. Each class always brings something exciting to the table and also allows students to actively participate during class time and group activities. Classes are not the only wonderful aspect about this school. In general, students get along well and there are not too many violence-related incidents on the campus. There are almost no instances of drugs, alcohol, or other addictive/unhealthy substances on school property. There is only one complaint I have about this school: size. Despite Western has a population of over 900 students, hallways are crowded and there are no sports fields for gym classes (students go to a nearby medical center field). Overall, this school is amazing. You will definitely be able to make friends, do your best in your classes as selected effectively by the guidance counselors, and have fun here at Western Tech!... Junior: The most important part of coming to any high school is making friends. Friends are going to be there for you through the thick and thin. I know that my NDP experience would be much worst if I didn’t make and lose friends throughout my time here. The teachers are most good but there can be teachers who are cannot teach the curriculum they are supposed to be teaching (which is not acceptable) but there are amazing teachers who try their best to help every student. NDP also have a phasing system which is supposed to help your daughter to be placed in classes that fits her learning speed but it can also prevent her from taking classes she might like just because her final grade is a tiny bit off. Nothing is truly bad at NDP in general, administration could use work and the resources given to POC and low income can definitely be improved but this is not a bad school overall from my experience. Freshman: I love my school! The academics are amazing and have many options for all levels. Personally, I take the highest classes I can, but people taking lower classes succeed as well. I love my teachers and believe they generally prepare me very well. The extracurriculars at this school are amazing. I am heavily involved in the music program, and if you're a musician, this is the right school for you. I would be shocked if someone found a school in the area with a better music program. The sports are also amazing. Every Spalding team performs so well and I'm so impressed with all of them. Overall, as someone with very high goals, I feel that Archbishop Spalding is adequately preparing me and giving me every opportunity I could ever want, to the point where it's hard to even chose what to do at our school. Senior: If you want a safe and encouraging space to explore and immerse yourself in your interests, then G.W. Carver Center for Arts & Technology is for you. With 11 primes/magnets, there is something for everybody, whether it's acting or game design or even culinary arts! There are plenty of opportunities for students to work on projects for their primes, and there's even a 30-minute break in the middle of the day, called "Wildcat Time", where students can choose to attend a club, study for classes, or just relax. My teachers are extremely kind and encouraging, and they always take time out of their day to help me understand concepts I may struggle with, and I can tell they really want us as students to succeed. Senior: As a senior at Mount Saint Joseph High School, I have enjoyed many aspects of my high school experience. One thing that stands out to me is the sense of community at MSJ. There is a strong brotherhood among the students, and the faculty and staff are supportive and caring. Parent: As a parent of three students who attended The Community School I cannot begin to tell you the incredibly positive impact that this program has had. Each of my children were very different academically, my son struggled in primary school and my two daughters did fairly well. The School met them head on. And with the small intimate setting, provided a safe, supportive structure for them. I am a past graduate and longtime volunteer and supporter of the school. I have witnessed so many young people come through the school and not all are successful. Some, do to outside influences, some struggled with work ethic and some it just was not the right fit. But for those that apply themselves, put in the effort and do the work - graduate more then prepared for upper education or career.
