Salem Academy has this internship opportunity every January called Janterm, which is great for college applications! Alum: I came to FCDS in Jr. Pre-K which means I have spent 14 years at this school. The teachers are great and they really do care about providing quality education as well as being there for students in a more personal capacity. The overall educational experience has been very good and I feel that attending FCDS has adequately prepared me for college. I do feel, however that FCDS lacks in terms of preparing students for real life and the workforce. FCDS provides little health, personal finance, and other real world classes. Senior: Early college is like no other traditional high school or magnet school it’s in its own category Early college is the best decision I could’ve made. Going into early college all the upperclassman were always nice and always wanted to help you navigate around the school. The classrooms are small and the teachers are all so amazing they know how to teach and they also care about you a lot. Senior: The school afforded me all I needed to be prepared for my next chapter which is college. From the diversity of students, activities on campus and the involvement and concerns from the teachers and administration. I felt that I could go to them and they were literally wanted me to achieve. Also the location of the school was also a great factor because I didn’t have to travel far to get there. It only took me 10 minutes to get there because the school was located in my neighborhood. This was so convenient because I didn’t have to be stressed 😩 by being caught up in daily traffic which makes a difference to be prepared to learn when you’re in school most of the day. I also was a cheerleader which I loved. The team was diverse and we felt like a team! I can look back on my high school at Atkins as a positive experience that met my overall needs as I enter my next chapter to attend college. Senior: I started my time at Westchester in 5th grade and have attended for eight years now. Overall, my experience was great. Some of my teachers, specifically my English teachers and Film teacher, have changed my life for the better, and I will forever be grateful for the advice, care, and knowledge they've given me. My fellow students, and friends, have also been amazing. I did experience many different friend groups throughout my eight years, but I am grateful to each and every person I spent time with, each of them shaping a piece of me. The only real thing I'd like to see changed at Westchester is better communication between the students and faculty, a more open connection being made. Yes, it is possible to schedule meetings with faculty to speak with them, but it doesn't always feel like change/progress is made after said meetings. Parent: I have had 2 children attending Arts Based School. I love everything about the curriculum and faculty. My children enjoy the environment and exposure to the arts. There are sacrifices, however. No school cafeteria. No school buses. And not the most diverse population. However, what the school lacks in diversity it makes up for in open mindedness. Senior: Bishop McGuinness is a great high school because the faculty know you personally and are always there for you. Anytime I struggled or miss something in class any teacher would gladly step up and help me. Bishop is also a very welcoming school. From the moment I walked through those doors as a freshman the people around me felt like family. The counselors at Bishop are extremely helpful throughout all your four years and especially during the process of applying to colleges. Our child is currently in the middle school and has been attending NGFS since the first grade (Rainbow). Parent: From the first day we toured the campus we loved that students walked from building to building. It felt like it was a college campus, and time spent outside was a health bonus for students! WFHS makes a great community with more than 30 clubs, societies, sports teams. It was joyful to discover that students can find almost anything. WFHS is creative in many ways, there are always new banners and announcements, decorations for upcoming events and seasonal decor for the school appearances. WFHS is strong in supporting local communities by participating in cleaning events in parks and neighboring areas, pitching in in donations, and volunteering. Parent: Cornerstone has been challenging, safe and tight-knit community for both of my children. There are events for elementary, middle and high school that are well-attended and supported by the PTO. The teachers love the students and their job and it shows! The school is safe, calm and well-run. My children have enjoyed all of their classes, as well as the sports, field trips and especially the AP offerings. We are so glad that we took a chance 10 years ago and enrolled in a brand new charter school that’s pillars are rigorous academics, character education and parent involvement. My daughter got into all 10 schools she applied to and earned scholarships to most of them. Our son is on the same track and we can’t wait for his accept letters to roll in this winter. Both are thankful for the opportunity to attend a school that focuses on the whole child and not just standardized test scores. If you are lucky enough to get into Cornerstone, accept the spot. Middle School Student: So far I liked my experience in the HAG team at Hanes. The teachers and students are friendly and the academics are excellent. I will say, it is diverse, but I do find there is more Asians and White Americans than other races, especially in HAG (I'm Asian btw). But other than that I think its a great school.
