Junior: I moved to Oakland Catholic sophomore year. I went to a school before that really did not match my needs. I knew someone from middle school that transferred here for high school. I always knew about the school, but never imagined myself there. I brought up the idea to my parents and they were hesitant. After months and months of conversation regarding the subject, they agreed to let me tour it. I still remember the day I toured, I was so nervous but pleasantly surprised by this environment. After the tour, I begged my parents even more to let me go. And my last day of freshman year my parents told me that I could go if I followed a list of rules they had for me. I've been here ever since and it has been an amazing journey. I've made friends I know I will have for life and amazing experiences and opportunities that not all girls are lucky enough to have. Junior: Bishop Canevin is constantly growing! Adding new features like a cafe, and updated fitness center, a new gym floor, and remodeling classrooms every year. The small environment is a positive (in my opinion), but is growing each year. School spirit is extremely high and very involved. Senior: I liked it as my teachers were amazing as well as the fact that the school was also quite huge in its buildings. This allowed it to accommodate large programs that were quite fun and engaging. Because of this, it allowed me to experience lots of new things. I especially liked my English classes as they were quite a lot of fun and my experiences in them were amazing. Although one thing that I would criticize is the fact that the school sometimes had delays or even school closures when we needed it, such as the ones when it was snowing quite heavily and every other school district was closed besides ours. On top of that my school was sometimes quite unaccommodating of the fact that work would be late for many factors. But besides that when I had a broken arm my school and teachers did accommodate me quite well in the fact they let me do my homework remotely instead of forcing me to do it by myself on paper. Sophomore: I have attended Hillcrest Christian Academy since my sixth grade year and plan to continue throughout my high school years. The school is equipped with plenty of classrooms and space for students; the facility is beautiful. The high school has recently added classes from Geneva College that eleventh and twelfth grade students can take to receive college credit, wonderfully equipping students for a bright future. The teachers are kind, caring, personal, engaging, and a positive influence on the students at Hillcrest. The school provides a Christian environment that provides a positive experience for children and teenagers as they go through school. Parent: Please do not let this school's academic score fool you. Provident Charter School is designed to cater to children with Dyslexia and other learning issues, so of course the students do not score as high on standardized tests as typical learners. I can not say enough good things about this school. My very intelligent child finally realizes his potential. He no longer thinks of himself as different or not as smart. The teachers here are incredible at developing each child's abilities. My son started in third grade but he was reading at a high kindergarten level. In fourth grade he began reading at grade level and was also at grade level or above in all of his subjects. Provident offers small class sizes, specialized reading instruction daily, highly qualified teachers, Taekwondo, a full gymnasium, and more. Parent: Moving to CDS was the absolute best move for my daughter and our whole family. Parent: Both of my daughters have gone to Jubilee. My older one did K-3rd in public school and she Hated school and was struggling academically. We transferred her to Jubilee for 4th-6th grade and she now Loves learning and has overcome her reading struggles. She graduated from Jubilee with honors. The small class sizes allow the teachers to help each student on an individual level and they make learning Fun for students! I also appreciated the emotional and spiritual support the teachers and staff gave to my daughters throughout the years. It has been a blessing to have a place to send my kids where they can grow in their faith and academics. We have also loved their hands on learning approach and the monthly field experiences are Awesome and add so much to the curriculum. I cannot say enough good things about this school. Freshman: I chose to go to Carlow University because of its amazing child education program. Along with the hands-on learning and Academic success plan set up for me, I am able to focus on my classes while doing what I love to do, which is working with kids on campus. Also, because it is a smaller school, it feels like a tight-knit family. During the pandemic, There was a strong sense of community between peers and instructors.
