Alum: At Groton, I feel that I have been able to become a more independent and conscientious person during my time at this school. The best thing about this school is the resources that it provides the students. Here, I feel that I can be whoever I like because the teachers, dorm parents, coaches, and community is supportive of everyone's quirks, interests, and dreams. The teachers are approachable and dedicated, and work hard to provide students with a positive experience and I have made some of the truest and most diverse background friends. However, while at my time here, I have noticed that there is a toxically competitive culture here. Moreover, sometimes it is hard to get leadership positions in clubs because one has to be "connected" or popular, and the unsafe hook-up culture NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! Parent: My son recently graduated from MX and his experience was a game changer for him. It is academically intense but non competitive, with students studying together and helping each other succeed. It is one of the kindest places that fosters friendliness and acceptance. His friends are smart, caring, multi faceted and diverse in every sense. The teachers take the time to build relationships and get to know the kids, meeting weekly as advisors to learn about and support their students as they navigate academics, sports, friends and teen challenges. Junior: I LOVE CA! As a current day student, I don’t have many regrets about my choice to go CA. The academics are manageable but rigorous, super friendly community, and most teachers really put in an effort to connect with students. CA is centered around common trust basically meaning that we all have trust in each other and put effort to foster a community. With that said, that is the case about 90% of the time. I’ve had a couple negative experiences with teachers and students who simply just don’t adhere to the common trust. For instance, I’ve a couple of teachers who just didn’t put in any effort to support me or my unique learning. Other than those few experiences, I have nothing but positive feedback for CA.... Parent: My son has had an incredibly positive experience at Lawrence Academy. The teachers are wonderful and nurturing; and the advisor program encourages involvement and good study habits. Lawrence Academy is a community rich with actives; arts and music, athletics, clubs, charitable events as well as leadership opportunities. The staff and administration are continually providing many different ways for students to become involved, promoting the diverse interests of all the students. By joining the soccer team his freshman year, my son made lots of great friends very quickly, both other freshman and upper class-men. He has found LA to be a warm and welcoming environment. Senior: When I first started at ASD in sixth grade, I was determined to go somewhere else for high school. Now, I'm a senior, and staying was the best choice I ever made. ASD might be small and nerdy, but it has an incredible community. The teachers aren't there for the money; they're there because they're passionate and knowledgeable. The students all know and support each other. We're best known for our academics, and for good reason. Middle School Student: I go here it is awesome! Everyone is so welcoming and is very kind and I already have a ton of friends. Curriculum is tough, but worth it, and you are still able to do out of school activities. Staff and Admins are amazing and genuinely care about the students education. There is a wide array of after-school clubs including but not limited to: Drama Club, Book Club, Sci-Fi Club, First Lego League, Math Counts, Science Quiz Bowl, and Band. Do note that the only sport they have is Middle School Cross-Country but you are able to participate in sports in your district. Parent: When our little elementary school closed at the end of our eldest son's Kindergarten year, we were heartbroken. We loved that the school community truly felt like family and welcomed any and all members from various backgrounds so openly. We were unsure where to send our children as a result of this closure until we toured Academy of Notre Dame. Not only did their professionalism and academic expectations remind us of our previous school, but upon hearing and seeing evidence that one of the cornerstones of the school is the celebration of diversity, we were convinced that we had found the perfect place for our children to learn and grow. These past 2 years have been nothing short of stressful, but one thing we did not have to worry about is whether or not our children were continuing to be educated and nurtured the same way they had that first part of the year at NDA when school was in person before Covid shut down the country. Middle School Student: Friendly environment. There are four language courses you're able to take which are German, Latin, Spanish and French. Most schools only have Spanish or no languages at all, but Stony Brook is very diverse and accepting to all different languages and cultures. Sophomore: Good school, very accepting community. The way they teach and involve students in discussions is very good for taking in information and learning important information. The curriculum, although less complex, allows for space for other time, consuming things in students lives. Such as sports, social life, are many other things. classes involving math and science are very hands on, allowing students hands-on experience with things that they may choose to pursue it in life. In certain cases, such as myself, biology is a large part of the science aspect of class, allowing practice for things like lab reports and observational skills, as well, as practice with tools that will be used waiter in wife, such as a microscope, pipettes, and different methods of transferring DNA samples or bacterial samples for experimentation. Middle School Student: I would say that the teachers I've had at McCarthy-Towne have been overall good. Since I am graduating this year (6th Grade) I'll have been going there for four years. My first teacher (3rd Grade) was very nice and welcoming, so was my second but in 5th grade my teacher was really mean and controlling. This year they are preparing us for Jr. High so we have two "main" teachers who are both really nice in their own ways. One thing I dislike about the school is the food, if you are considering sending your child her make sure to pack their lunch! Another is the fact that they don't really prepare you for the Jr. High in the sense that there is barely any homework. Overall a good school though.... Read 1 review

Alum: I graduated from Douglas in 2020. Overall it was a fun seven years of my life, but I didn't learn much. I started there in Kindergarten and ended in 6th grade. I can't say the academics were horrible, because I learned a few things, but I was never "challenged." There was minimal homework to back up what we learned, which didn't help much with the fact that we were there to learn. I liked most of my teachers. My favorite experiences were in 5th and 6th grade. In 5th grade for our exhibitions, my class created a website called the "Team 5 Times." Another one of my favorite 5th-grade projects was the Oregon Trail. We turned our desks and tables into wagons, used power tools, and made our own games. (I made a geyser and helped with the Oregon Trail game). My favorite 6th-grade moments were Nature's Classroom (a 3-day overnight field trip) and our class play. Senior: Overall, my experience at Bishop Guertin High School has been amazing, not only for furthering my academic knowledge but bringing me friendships with many that will last a lifetime. On the positive side of Bishop Guertin, the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and always have pushed me hard, no matter the subject, putting me in a far better place for my future than those attending public schools. In addition, I have always been held to a very high standard while at Bishop Guertin High School, which leads to the fact that I am well-prepared for my college years and all of my future endeavors. On the negative side of Bishop Guertin High School, there is almost too much homework and assessments as it becomes very overwhelming. Also, the teachers tend to put unnecessary stress on the students, which becomes exhausting. Other: No, there is no fancy facility or tons of extra curricular offerings such as sports. This is an underfunded charter school in NH. But with that being said, the academics are stellar, the staff truly cares for kids and the administration knows what they are doing ( I will take experience and consistency in how things are handled over popularity any day). My child made great strides, leaned real world skills and wished they had a high school. Charter schools are not for everyone, and that is okay, but this one is worth checking out!
