Parent: Our son went to Williston last year for a repeat junior year. Though his public-private high school in Vermont offered ample opportunities, the Covid experience had impacted his academic sequence and experience. He'd also come to realize Vermont's competition levels and potential for exposure didn't align with his aspirations for next-level play. Williston came well-recommended by a college friend whose son had been their for a few years, especially for its community. Even more than meeting our expectations for the sports, we were thrilled to see the community and academic experience energize him to new levels. He thrived with connections to students from around New England, the country, globe, and local community! We are thrilled with his academic interest and relationships. Parent: While sending my daughter to study abroad, I worried about her life and academics very much. However, the teachers and dorm parents in this school proved that my choice is correct! With the combined efforts, the school as a whole improved our daughters physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Senior: Teachers work hard to help you and they are very willing to provide extra support outside of class. Many opportunities for extracurricular and service events. School supplies are usually available and there are mental health and college guidance resources available. Overall, good school! Parent: WOW, is all I can say about HCSS West! As a parent, we all want the best for our children but lets face it, it may not be achieved in a public school setting. For my child, it definitely wasn't and was looking for a new environment where he wasn't labeled any more. I did my research which showed both good & bad reviews. We went for a tour and talked to people. Since he was almost failing his core classes, he was miserable, and he fought every time he had to get ready for school, I figured what was the worst thing that could happen with the change? I just knew it was stressful and a miserable way to start every day. Day one, he came home and said he loved it which brought tears to my eyes. Never had we heard anything like that from his mouth! Never had we seen excitement to go to school! Never had we seen him make honor roll! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this to happen but I am so happy it did. Parent: If you are looking for a Challenging curriculum, dedicated and attentive teachers and staff, with some of the best Sport coaches in the area HCSS is the school for you. I have a son who graduated in 2020 and is now thriving in WNE mechanical engineering program and a current 8th grader in the honors program. Both of my boys want to go to school everyday, enjoy the challenging courses and play/ed three varsity sports. They have made great friends, gained mentors and are being prepared for college. In the very few times where we have had a curriculum or student behavior issue, it has been address quickly and to our satisfaction. I have found that when a student or parent brings issues to the teachers or administrators attention in a respectful manner with realistic expectations they meet or exceed what is necessary to address those issues in a timely manner. Senior: It's great for academics even if it's hard. The teachers are great because they are very invested in your education and genuinely care about you; they're willing to accommodate your needs and talk to you at any hour if you need something. The food is okay. They mainly serve pizza and chicken patties. My only complaint is that the students are very stuck up and cliquey so that its difficult to make friends. The sports are pretty good but they always get underfunded since hockey takes the main priority, which makes sense because it's the only D1 team. Still kinda sucks. The administration is bad. They don't communicate with other parts of the school and are very strict so their lack of management rubs off on your daily activities. Speaking of daily activities, it's pretty fun at Pope because they always have something going on and try to give you an easy day/day-off every couple of weeks with either a retreat or remote day due to a teacher's meeting. Parent: We were nervous about changing to PVCA, but everything we were nervous about has been addressed and we couldn’t be more happy with the school. We have 3 kids attending, the teachers have been amazingly responsive and love our kids just as much as we do! The academics are right on and as an educator myself, I am so happy with the learning taking place. My kids are safe, comfortable, happy and learning and growing in the Lord. Administration has been quick to respond and are forward thinking while upholding moral and ethical Christ centered values. My kids get more electives than they would in public schools in a culturally and linguistically diverse community! It’s such a warm welcoming community! Senior: Some of the best memories of my entire life were made at Saint Mary’s. I’m graduating this year and I couldn’t be more saddened by the fact that I’m leaving. Junior: Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter school other wise known as PVPA isn't the greatest school but it is inclusive and somewhat diverse in the LGBTQ+ community, it's filled with many talented artists of all kinds, and mental health is taken seriously here other than that there have been multiple times where teachers (white teachers) have been racist or non accommodating to us students of color and lastly when it comes to the academic classes they're not inclusive to other races.... Sophomore: West Springfield High School's campus is brand new. The new building is large, organized, and very welcoming. There is so much diversity and the teachers there are very supportive of it. The teachers care greatly about their job and do their best to improve every students every step of the way. West Springfield High School offers many clubs & extracurriculars to pursue out and in school. The administration and the guidance have supported me and are trying to push me to be the person I can be alongside my interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). High School Senior: If I could go to this school all over again, I would. I have learned so many new things from attending WSHS. I can apply things I've learned to everyday life. Senior: BACPS is the place to go if you want a one-on-one connection with your teachers. Allowing you to get a better grasp of any subject being discussed or even if you just want extra practice. Not only that it is also great if you like a smaller environment. Which is great. This school is a family. Everyone is in touch, respect is a huge thing, discipline is also another huge goal on our list. We follow a system of HOS's 5 of them.
