Senior: The students, classes, and teachers are wonderful. There's a wide variety of classes you can take, and lots of access to AP and/or CTE classes. In addition, the music program is pretty good. I dislike the atmosphere, which creates a lot of pressure towards getting good grades, taking AP classes for the grade boost, and getting into a high ranked school (Ex: UC). This atmosphere is stronger in AP classes. Sophomore: The most important thing in Jesuit High School is that I feel like an individual. The school and faculty make immense effort towards pushing every student out of their comfort zone, and in doing so cause everyone to stand out. I wouldn't have joined the volleyball team if not for Jesuit High School's counseling department pushing me to take risks and try out for a cut sport that I had been on the bubble of trying out for over the past year. I wanted to join the team, but was filled with self-doubt. I love how CB has a different variety of programs, classes, clubs, and sports to choose from. Ever since I joined, I have received nothing but kindness from both faculty and students. Junior: I like how St. Francis High School prepares you for college and the future careers you want to pursue. There's a variety of college-preparatory courses fit for any student regarding her academic background. This school is competitive athletically and academically as it puts a lot of pressure on hard-working students. The administration, wellness counselors, and college counselors are very active as they provide many resources that benefit students struggling mentally or with grades. As an all-girls school, the sisterhood community is empowering and motivates students like me to get involved in leadership and social opportunities as a female. Alum: Da Vinci Charter Academy is technology and project-based learning community. Essentially this means that students have to make a lot of PowerPoints and learn how to make-up a presentation on the spot or face public humiliation. This school was extremely liberal in its teachings, and if you didn't align you'd have few to talk to. My experience at Da Vinci was heavily reliant on the groups that I ended up in. If I had a group who wanted to succeed, great! If not, that meant failure or severe overworking. Learning to work in a group, communicate, and present are all valuable skills. Da Vinci did a better job than most at teaching students relevant skills, but they were never purely academic. From an academic standpoint, the school was mediocre. Senior: Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep (NP3) is an excellent school that facilitates strong preparation for college coursework. I attended Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep for all of middle school and high school and the courses, teachers, activities strongly impacted my perspective of education as I learned to value the content and skills I obtained rather than simply value the grades I receive. Most, if not all non-academic activities, are student led, which has provided me with the opportunity to gain leadership skills and develop closer bonds with other students. As NP3 is a smaller school compared to most others, I feel the community there is generally closer than others. Since the campus is quite diverse and smaller, I feel comfortable and connected to my graduating class and other students, which makes the school a more enriching place. Parent: I have three children attending CCS: 1st, 3rd and 10th grades. My 10th grader began at the school in 5th grade. Our experience through middle, elementary and high school has been outstanding. My 9th grader has had the opportunity to participate in student government, take an AP class (and passed the AP exam to earn college credit!), plays 3 sports and enjoys a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive. He also participated in a Law Academy program, where he was able to visit the local state and federal courts, learn from attorneys and judges, and learn how to read legal cases. It was an incredible opportunity for a high school student. Our kids have all enjoyed the support of deeply committed teachers, who show a sincere interest in their success and growth academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Parent: DECS is a wonderful small school in the Northern California Delta. The school benefits from the rural community that surrounds it. The children visit the local library weekly and the community garden. Both are just a block away. The local farmers hold a Ag day each year. Our parent group active & supportive. The teachers work in teams and really tackle individual students who need extra help. The principle Mrs. Belair is an amazing, creative and caring person who lifts and supports the entire community. The best part of the school (to me personally) is that all the teachers are good- there isn't the jostling to get into the "good" class. Junior: So far this school has been an amazing opportunity for me to turn my academic career around. Before I transferred to Futures High School my grade point average was 1.2-2.0, Back then, I didn’t care about my future. When I was attending Rio Linda High my only future aspiration was to find a minimum wage job and live a relatively boring life; Now I want to pursue a career in computer science, Specifically AI software engineering. This High School’s excellent Administrative staff and supportive teachers have inspired me to want more than a boring minimum wage job, My teachers push me in a way I haven’t seen since elementary.
