Alum: They definitely get you the necessary credits to graduate with your associates. By the time I graduated, they had improved and expanded on the graduation paths and greatly improved the health science courses by getting students actual work experience and certifications. The engineering and computer science paths also get experience in their fields with projects and field trips. I do wish the workload was less vigorous, because while I know finishing high school and a degree will be difficult, sometimes that just felt like an excuse used to give more homework than necessary that yielded no actual use. It made it hard to focus on the actual lessons and many students relied on cheating just to get everything done because having homework for eight classes every night left no time for even sleep sometimes.... Parent: KCA does an excellent job teaching biblical truth and preparing students to engage confidently with the culture. At the high school level, this actually translates to serious bible study with an emphasis on application to daily living. The teachers have a high degree of specialty, training, experience, and competency in their respective fields. The curriculum is academically rigorous and children are trained to use various types technology. The entire campus observes stringent covid protocols for the health, safety, and well-being of the children and staff (envirox sanitation, masks, desk shields, and virtual learning readiness options). The fine arts department is fantastic (make sure to ask about the 2020 Christmas program and 2021 Son-Dance Fine Arts Festival!). Senior: Bishop Dunne is a college preparatory school. My experience with this school is that it has readied me for college immensely while giving me great life lessons along the way. There are countless opportunities at this school and many chances to be given a taste of college life whether it is through the school's regular hosting of college visits or having upper-classmen be able to visit certain campuses themselves. Thanks to this school, I've constantly felt welcomed and accepted. Though this school is Catholic-focused, mass and prayer services are a regular thing here. It never feels forced and is always seen as an option for students, a time and place for you to get closer to your faith, find your faith, or seek guidance. Never once have I thought about leaving this school and it pains me to say that I'm leaving this year for college. Works Here: I love Shackelford Elementary! I have been a teacher here for 12 years and love my students and parents! The teachers work together to provide the best educational opportunities for each student. I work with all grade levels, and it is amazing to see my students each year flourish in their general education classroom with our special education support. They are treated inclusively in all activities and lessons, regardless of any disabilities. Senior: I have gone to Ovilla Christian School for 6 years and have made countless memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. I have made lifelong friends that I will forever be grateful for, and have developed relationships that would likely not be possible elsewhere. As a Christian, receiving a christian education is a huge benefit to grow in my faith and learn more about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Along with this, being in a small private (Christian) school allows me to not be turned away from God via a public school education. However, this is also one of the biggest flaws of Ovilla Christian School (or any private school) is that it is very sheltering. The reason this is a flaw is because it does a poor job of preparing you for the real world, and oftentimes students who attended these small private schools fall apart when exposed to the things private schools protect you from. Senior: Me being a senior, I have experienced my years of high school. Being an involved, student-athlete showed me all the diversity at Waxahachie High School. Not only are the WISD facilities amazing, but also the students. We grow together, we fall together, and we rise together. We stick up for each other, even if we have no clue who the other is. Waxahachie High is a family. When you graduate from this school, you are proud to be an Indian. You come back proud, and you stay proud. Especially being a part of the 2022 Varsity Volleyball team, where we were ranked top 10 in the state, we left our records and legacies stand in round 4 of State Playoffs. Works Here: I like that Waxahachie High School of Choice offers students an alternative to receiving their high school diploma than the typical route of high school. I feel that it gives students who would often end up being a dropout, a chance to work towards their high school diploma. Senior: The Red Oak High School is a great place to go to school. The teachers there are very warm and welcoming and there are advisors and counselors to fit every students needs. Despite this, there are some discipline issues that the staff is constantly trying to address and get under control. There are also some issues with curriculum as there aren’t many classes offered for Fine Arts Classes beyond the minimum like dance, theatre, and band. There is also lack of funding to these Fine Arts Departments. I also wish there were more language classes offered and SAT prep classes. Beyond this I think Red Oak was a great place! Other than the lack of classes I wanted to take, Red Oak set me up wonderfully for my college and provided me with the advisors I needed to succeed. They also have a wonderful library that is CONSTANTLY bringing in new books. Almost everyday (I know because I was a library aide).
