Senior: This is truly an amazing school. I value the relationship between my teachers and me. It is obvious they love what they do and want every student to succeed. Also, I know Academy has prepared me for college - the work load, albeit difficult, is manageable. Additionally, the sports facilites are incredible; I do not know many schools that have their own pool attached. That being said, I would like to see more attention given to the fine arts department. There are so many hidden artists in my grade that I did not know about until taking Studio Art. Finally, recognizing the minorities in the community, Norfolk Academy has taken steps to make their campus more inclusive this year. Overall, I have loved my high school experience at NA and highly recommend this school to students striving to make the most of their education.... Read 143 reviews

Parent: Veritas has been such a good fit for our family. Coming from a homeschooled background, we were concerned how our child would do there all day. My child looks forward to being at school everyday and especially in his classroom with his teacher. Our son feels totally safe there and had no separation anxiety. Every morning my child excitedly ran to greet the administrators at the door. He loved that he could start his day by racing them to be the first to say hello. He also loves going to memory period. He has grown so much this year. His teacher is bright, loving, fun and very patient. She takes them outside several times a day, gives them snack time and miraculously gets them to nap. It is amazing how much better his reading and social grace has gotten too. They have an excellent classical curriculum delivered in love. The teachers are very invested and the small class sizes guarantee personal attention. We also love the other parents. This family community is priceless!... Read 112 reviews

Parent: We are at CHC because of teachers/coaches like Lacrosse Coach Joe Thompson. He inspired my daughter in 7th-grade history class & my 10th-grade son who has never played the sport into joining his Lacrosse team. Coach Thompson motivates those around him. He is purposeful, educated, experienced, & an example of what sets CHC apart from other schools! He is a UVA FINAL FOUR player. Read Coach Thompson's experience below. It is because of teachers like him that my kids attend Cape Henry Collegiate and not Norfolk Academy. #dolphinproud Coach Thompson played at St. Mary's High in Annapolis before heading to UVA. He was team captain when the Cavaliers made the Final Four in 2005 receiving the team's Thomas C. Rixey award for spirit & inspiration. Thompson was a UVA assistant & was the head coach at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, Calif., & his alma mater before serving the past two seasons as offensive coordinator at Maryland power Loyola Blakefield.... Senior: Ocean Lakes high school provided me with an excellent base to propel myself into future endeavors. Throughout my experience there, the staff does an incredible job attempting to incorporate a familial sort of inclusion among everyone in the building. Most of the teachers are friendly and will do their best to help with an issue if you bring it up. The sports I was a part of for, unfortunately, only a short time had a heavy emphasis on comradery. As part of their Math and Science Academy, I feel as though the academics were cumulatively rigorous enough to keep up to VBCPS's slogan of being "ahead of the curb". There is nothing I'd change about the school as a whole, only things that will already eventually change.... Read 644 reviews

Junior: I have had a very positive experience at this school. Aside from a 2 teachers that I can think, all of my teachers have been there to help me learn and grow! My teachers have offered after school help, before school help, and ask all the time how they can help me succeed. The Spanish department (my personal favorite) is unmatched and all of the teachers are fantastic. They are very knowledgable about the language and have a lot of resources. Our band is a very tight group of people who love what they do. Our sports teams are (for the most part) successful especially volleyball, basketball, and swimming.... Read 513 reviews

Senior: Norfolk Collegiate has been an academically rigorous school throughout my entire high school career and I feel like I will be prepared for college especially well, just because I went to Norfolk Collegiate. I have made numerous connections at the school from friends to teachers to coaches as the opportunities we are provided with at school are numerous. The only complaint that I have is that it is hard to get a traditional high school experience at Norfolk Collegiate without a football team and the student body is considerably lacking in school spirit. However, the education I wanted was received and I am enormously glad I had the opportunity to go here.... Read 57 reviews

Alum: I loved the fact that the classes were hard, the work was all encompassing, and that I would rather donate to my middle school than to Caltech. That should say more than anything I write. I imagine, much like every other school, things have gotten worse and the curriculum has gotten easier. The teachers weren't anything special but at least there were no "coach teachers" like one would have in highschool. Was surrounded by the smartest kids I'll ever be surrounded by, although many of them probably had parents that didn't push them to their full potential (which would explain why the majority ended up at Virginia tech). Still better than caltech. School actually cares about academic rigor. You can tell by the fact that everyone takes the same hard classes and no one has ever tried to tell me to take fewer or that it's okay to not be perfect. It's not. Was definitely the best school in the world when I was attending. Wish they didn't have to get a new building with normies...... Read 20 reviews

Alum: As I started attending this school, I was still getting used to America itself. I had just recently came back from living in the Philippines for three years. My English was poor, my social manners were different, and my self confidence was absent. The staff in this school did a great job in helping me learn the English language and make new friends. On top of that, the teachers were beyond perfect. They explained everything in detail in a way everyone could understand. If I ever moved back to Virginia, I would definitely enroll my future kids here to let them experience the kindness and compassion I did.... Read 1 review

Senior: I enjoy a majority of the staff at this school, i think that they are doing a wonderful job at shaping young minds. Many of the teachers here have encouraged me in my ideas and have actually led me to my final decision in my career. Something that I would change would be some of their outdated rules and how they handle things. In light to some of the more recent handlings of our vaping issue, I would say that this was handled poorly. One of the rules that I would mention, would be the dress code. Many students are breaking the dress code and not getting punished for it, I believe that the rule itself should be reconsidered being that it isn’t being enforced. The way that they communicate things should also be reconsidered being that there is a lot of information that is needed to get out to students with little known to the majority. A lot of the upperclassmen leave earlier in the day, this time is used for the announcements to be shared to the student body to receive.... Read 480 reviews

Junior: Stonebridge is a great school that focuses on equipping the next generation with a Biblical worldview to restore the American nation. The academics are rigorous and very in-depth. AP courses and honors classes are offered. The staff and students are very genuine and will go the extra mile to help out. The whole community is very welcoming, encouraging, and want to help others grow in their faith, academics, and skills. There are so many ways to get involved as a student or parent by joining clubs, sports, drama, or prayer groups. They offer a wide variety of sports from golf to volleyball. Also, throughout the year, they include many “fun days” such as Spiritual Emphasis Week, Retreat, movie nights, etc. Overall, a fantastic school that strives to prepare young people with a strong Biblical foundation and make lasting relationships.... While the school has a strong focus in math and science, my child is getting a well rounded education with classes in Language Arts, History, Community, etc., electives in art, foreign languages and history of food as well as after school fun like drama, sports and animal lovers clubs! The daily updates are informative detailing by class what my child did that day and I like the sneak peak on what the higher grade levels are learning/reading/doing. The teachers encourage the students to advocate for themselves but they are always on hand to help! My child has developed strong friendships with kids at various grade levels which shows that there is a common comradery and closeness in this community.
