Parent: I can't say enough good things about the teachers at St. Anne's-Belfield. My child lost a lot of ground learning virtually in public school during the pandemic. His teachers at St. Anne's have gone the extra mile to catch him up without making him feel bad (or even letting on that he's behind). Really love that he has access to learning resource specialists and the school counselor. Can't speak to athletics as he's more of a CS nerd (and the program is amazing btw!), but I understand they are stellar if that's your kids' thing. As with all private schools, I wish it were more diverse, but the school does a good job being intentional about diversity and inclusion so kids are aware and prepared to interact with people of all backgrounds and cultures, even if they don't see a lot on a daily basis...Read 66 Reviews

Alum: There's so much I loved about Ren! But I'm going to focus on the top of my list: the excellent teachers who give incomparable amounts of attention, care, and support. Renaissance faculty have:1. Had hour long conversations with me outside of class to discuss my own personal interests in their subject matter.2. Provided feedback on every single draft of every single one of my college essays.3. Not only tolerated but supported me raising my voice about issues of injustice that really matter to me.4. Fostered a culture of care and belief surrounding mental health challenges where I was always comfortable reaching out for myself and my friends.5. Overall, invited me into a warm and open community which I loved being a part of :)Read 15 Reviews

Freshman: Personally, I love Western Albemarle. The people are great and all my teachers teach well. It’s really easy to make friends and most everybody is welcoming. The only thing bad about it is the lack of diversity. I would guess that Western is 95% white, if not more. There isn’t really a way to change that, but compared to the schools in Charlottesville there are is a lot less diversity. The school lacks the opportunities to meet people that are different than you and learn from them. The cons of the school are there, but are minor. Overall, I love Western!...Read 193 Reviews

Parent: Both of my children graduated from Tandem Friends in the past few years. They both had great experiences, and were very different students with different needs -- and are well-prepared for college and life. There is an underlying ethos to the school that drives everything that happens there, and the students are seen and valued as individuals -- as are all other members of the community: Teachers, families, staff, trustees, alums. Because it is a small school, it has a "you get out of it what you put into it" feeling -- but it continues to attract wonderful people who are interested in helping everyone to be their best and supporting each other to succeed in authentic and inspiring ways. We are so appreciative that we found Tandem Friends School and that our children had this special community to learn and grow in for these important middle & high school years as they learned about themselves and the larger world...Read 17 Reviews

I can tell all faculty wants to see students succeed and will help in any way they can to make sure that happens. Junior: The Covenant School has a loving and welcoming Christian atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Being a smaller school, the class sizes are perfect for getting more personalized assistance. The teachers are always happy to help their students. I have made a small group of friends here who I'm very close to. Each grade does have their cliques or friend groups, but everyone socializes with other people as well. My few complaints are: ...1. There's no health or mental health class2. Some teachers are a little too open about their political opinions (LGBTQ+ views and more)3. Being a college preparatory school, the workload can be quite challenging, especially with required sports and electivesOverall, I highly recommend this school to all. I'm sure that once I graduate, I will look back with many fond memories.Read 33 Reviews

Middle School Student: I had a great year. There is some racial/homophobic bullying that needs to be addressed, but most students are very open and inclusive. Extracurricular activities are great; there is everything from Scholastic Bowl to Environmental Club to Harry Potter Club. The teachers are all mostly fairly good; as a student in the Honors academics, I’d say that they handle things well and are very organized. I can’t speak for Standard and Advanced students, though, and I’ve heard that these people are often overlooked...Read 8 Reviews

Parent: Our family LOVES CCS! Our two boys went through CCS and are much better young men and students as a result. The overall environment at the Catholic School is exceptional. Academically, the students are encouraged, supported, and pushed to do their very best in the classroom. The teachers do an amazing job of reaching each student individually which translates into a trusting, caring, and successful school experience for the student, the parent(s), and also the teacher. In and out of the classroom the teachers and staff also do an extraordinary job of instilling discipline, self-respect and respect for others, thoughtfulness, and a sense of community and personal responsibility. Our boys continue to excel each and every year both as students and as young men in our community and I believe those valuable traits are a direct result of the foundation, mentorship, and guidance that they received as students at the Charlottesville Catholic School...Read 9 Reviews

Parent: Challenging, but attainable academic standards. Highly trained faculty members who invest in helping each student achieve success. Close partnership between parents, teachers, and administration. Strong focus on teaching skills like critical thinking, determination, grit, and positive interpersonal relations. Close-knit and supportive community and true to their Christian mission, heavily invested in pursuing the hearts of each student rather than focusing simply on outward behavior. Caring community of teachers and administrators. Small class size and rigorous academics. Incorporates Biblical worldview and understanding of Christian doctrine. Top notch coaching staff for various sports. The facilities are going to be wonderful when the new site opens in the fall!...Read 12 Reviews

Senior: I have been attending GWUOHS since 7th grade. I am now in 12th, so that's 6 whole years with them! Personally, I'm someone who likes to be challenged, so I have loved the rigorous education system that they've provided throughout the years. I also like having the freedom to go to school without the need to leave the house (of course, that's the situation for the majority of us now during this pandemic). Nevertheless, I appreciate having a much more flexible schedule due to this school's platform. ... I've had a slight issue with this school, however. I would recommend that GWUOHS provides better counseling from advisors regarding courses. I was unaware that the courses I was taking had caused me to advance by 1 year ahead of the other students who were in my same grade. I didn't learn until last year that I was required to return for my senior year for only 2 electives and my final Journeys Symposium class in order to fulfill the missing credits I needed in order to graduate...Read 32 Reviews

He inspired my daughter in 7th-grade history class & my 10th-grade son who has never played the sport into joining his Lacrosse team. Coach Thompson motivates those around him.
