Senior: An amazing and illuminating experience, Ironwood has helped me acquire time management skills, coping mechanisms, emotion regulation, mindfulness, self-appreciation, interpersonal effectiveness, and much more. During my time at this unique high school, I've grown and improved past anything I could have hoped for in a public school system. My family and I are more than grateful for all Ironwood has done for us and would recommend the school wholeheartedly.... Read 2 reviews

Senior: I think that college prep needs to begin much sooner in your high school career, even beginning freshman year. Further, I think there should be significantly increased clarity in what you are expected to have for college applications, extra curriculars, SAT subject tests, community service, etc. I think there should be more support offered for filling out the common app, perhaps even a few mandatory sessions in school in place of regular classes. Otherwise the teachers are incredibly kind and rigorous academics are offered.... Read 110 reviews

Parent: As the parent of two children in the lower school, I am extremely pleased with SSSAS. The Early Saints teachers make each day engaging for my 3-year-old. The monthly units the ES learn have prompted my son to apply what he’s learned to the world around him (the food unit they completed prompts a nightly discussion about which foods on his plate are muscle foods, brain foods, etc.). His teachers started a recent parent conference with 3 very specific adjectives to describe my son and given the examples they gave me, it is clear that really understand him as a whole child. My experiences with JK and K were also nothing short of fantastic; even during the pandemic the teachers were able to connect with my son. The K and 1st grade teachers have also provided my son a solid educational foundation; they have identified his strengths and given additional challenging work so that he hasn’t been bored. Any issues I’ve had have been quickly and appropriately addressed by his teachers.... Read 132 reviews

High School Freshman: I had opportunities to go to other, more "renown" schools. I chose to stay at Searsport. I find the small school atmosphere like that of a second family. We support each other. For those who have bad home lives, it's home. Academically, I am challenged - the Standards-based education is fluid and flexible and allows you to be sitting in a classroom that can be grades ahead of your actual "grade-level" if you excel in that subject. The hands-on approach to learning is engaging. From boat-building to CAD for robotics to monitoring clam beds on Sears Island to CSI/forensic classes...simply put: they rock! There are some stellar teachers, here, and an ever-expanding list of activities that students can be involved in. Most recently, the school added a Sailing Program and a Competitive Robotics Team.... Alum: I would say it was overall a good experience. I was in this school system from K-12. Elementry and Middle school provided good teaching staff, extracurriculars, and resources for women in STEM. The high school experience was illuminating, with classes becoming segregated by class and race. The system was very biast and pushed certain students above those who historically had not attended college.... Read 12 reviews

Parent: The curriculum is thoughtful, encourages critical thinking and think outside the box. While the school has a strong focus in math and science, my child is getting a well rounded education with classes in Language Arts, History, Community, etc., electives in art, foreign languages and history of food as well as after school fun like drama, sports and animal lovers clubs! The daily updates are informative detailing by class what my child did that day and I like the sneak peak on what the higher grade levels are learning/reading/doing. The teachers encourage the students to advocate for themselves but they are always on hand to help! My child has developed strong friendships with kids at various grade levels which shows that there is a common comradery and closeness in this community. The best review I can give comes from my child who says that Ideaventions Academy "is the best school ever!" and we wholeheartedly agree.... Read 7 reviews
