Junior: Watauga High School (WHS) is a wonderful high school. WHS boasts more than 40 clubs and the application for students to begin their own clubs is extremely easy. WHS also has phenomenal athletics and a wonderful arts program. Theatre, chorus, and band students have multiple opportunities to showcase their talent, like a spring musical and concerts spread throughout the year. WHS also has several AP classes, including a few uncommon ones like AP Music Theory and AP Computer Science. There's really something for everyone! The support staff, like guidance counselors and social workers, truly care about every student. I've personally seen my counselors once every week for the past school year and it's a wonderful stress reliever. The school has few problems with drugs and disobedience according to my knowledge and its quite diverse as well. I highly recommend Watauga High School to all parents in or moving to Watauga Country...Read 217 Reviews

Junior: Berean is a great school for anyone that wants to learn in a safe, Christian environment. Berean really pushes having a good relationship with God, keeping up your grades, and participating in school activities. The teachers really care about you and try to help as much as possible with anything you have going on in or out of school. I would recommend Berean Baptist Acadamy for any Christian student that wants to pursue learning in a good environment...Read 23 Reviews

Niche User: I have not always lived in Ashe County, but it is by far the best public school I have ever gone to. Outside of the typical issues when you have a bunch of teenagers together, it is a very good school. There is not excess bullying, fighting or other nonsense, and if there is, an end is put to it immediately. I will always be proud of graduating from ACHS!...Read 115 Reviews

Parent: Our daughter is a GDS graduate and our son a current student. While we've always been pleased with Gaston Day, we were especially thankful for the manner in which the COVID19 situation was handled. Our son missed one Monday of instruction while the faculty was being trained. From that point forward, he was online live with his teachers daily for the remainder of the school year. His academic classes, including band and pe, and all advisory groups were carried on with fidelity. In addition to whole group instruction, he was able to continue working in small groups with friends and make class presentations during this time. We experienced no "busy work." While we understand other schools may have had unavoidable technological obstacles, my husband and I were grateful for the preparation and attention to ensuring the academic year was completed in a solid learning environment. Gaston Day is one of the best decisions we've made for our family!...Read 112 Reviews
