Alum: Le Mars was supportive and offered lots of opportunities, but I felt that it wasn't very strong in the science department. The community around the school is strong, though. I think the teachers are dedicated and helpful for the most part. I wish the school offered more diverse language classes, though I understand that Spanish is the most practical language to learn. I also wish there were more classes offered in general. The middle school has an advanced English program, but the high school doesn't, so all the advanced kids get dropped back into the regular English class and have to review things they have already learned. I wish students had more say in the classes they get to take so they could mold their schedule to their interests (within reason, core classes are important)...Read 82 Reviews

Junior: I joined Gehlen Catholic my freshmen year. What I love about this school is the family feel it has to it. At Gehlen, teachers really care about you and your well being. I've had teachers individually email me checking in to see if I am doing alright after they've noticed I've had a bad day. The teachers and staff all know me by name and have a special bond with their students that I've never seen before. We are a tight knit community that puts God first. At Gehlen, I have formed a new and personal relationship with God. I've been taught so much I hadn't known before about Jesus and meanings of his teachings here on earth. The religion teachers are focused and hard-working on strengthening our faith and for that I am extremely grateful. ...I've been thinking for a while now about something I would want to see change in at Gehlen but I'm afraid I can't come up with anything. Gehlen is amazing and I wouldn't trade it for any other school.Gehlen is my family...Read 24 Reviews

Alum: Very caring teachers at Le Mars Middle School. They make you feel welcome and if you have questions, they are there to help. I was involved in the music program and that was a ton of fun. Senior: I’ve loved my time at SJC! It took a little bit of time to get used to as a freshman because of how technologically dependent the school is. Most, if not all, work is done on the IPad which is great for so many reasons. The student life is amazing and staff want to see you succeed. However, some of the older teachers tend to get stuck in their ways of teaching and need to modernize their methods. Overall, SJC is a great environment for high schoolers, especially those athletically and academically driven...Read 251 Reviews

Senior: There is a sense of family there. The teachers genuinely care and want the best for their students. It's not uncommon to know everyone's name in the high school, even those who aren't in your class. There are also opportunities to interact with the elementary students. Some people use their study hall times to help out in the elementary classrooms. There are also many opportunities in sports and fine arts. The community there is fantastic...Read 14 Reviews

Parent: We have 2 boys currently attending WES. One is in his 3rd year there and a 2nd grader and the younger is 2 months into his first year (kindergarten). Both love their school and the teachers; they can't wait to go to school every single day. ...I'm always surprised at how fast they learned to read and they're now writing stories at home...for fun! The school's focus on being kind, confident, and prepared is definitely the right direction and this mentality shows in each of their students. The parents with whom we interact are also very nice and some have become good friends. The administration staff is exceptional. It shows every day in every teacher and staff member. The head of school is out there every morning welcoming kids to school, helping with drop off, and greeting everyone by name...Read 17 Reviews

Parent: I have one alum and two middle schools sons at Lowell. The younger two started in Kindergarten and the oldest in third after attending our local public elementary school. Although my sons are completely different, Lowell has managed to understand and bring out the best in each of them. My oldest, the quiet introvert at public school, was completely brought out of his shell and is now a confident 10th grader. Lowell taught him self advocacy. My younger two have been encouraged to use their over abundance of self-confidence to boost other children up. Thanks to Lowell, they are empathetic leaders. Lowell has helped me parent my boys to be their best selves -- confident yet kind, thoughtful and public-spirited. All of that PLUS a leading edge curriculum that allows them to easily attend the top public and independent high schools in the city!...Read 13 Reviews
