Parent: I have seen many positive changes at Calverton is my sons' decade + time there. The current Board and Administration "gets" it. The College Counseling is awesome and the Admissions Team is focusing on the "right" type of student (and families). The School is strong, diverse, multi-cultural, and growing. A lot of the malcontents have moved on. For example, the Boys Varsity Soccer team won the league title last Fall (and was undefeated in league play)-the team was a really tight group w/ players from the USA (Maryland and other states), Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and Hong Kong. The Coaches are from Bermuda and England. The parents formed a great bond. It was a magical season and showed the School is a really fine light. Calverton is a School on the rise!... Read 52 reviews

Parent: St. John's is providing an excellent academic and social environment for our children in middle school. They were not being challenged as much as they needed in our local public school, so we switched from MCPS, and couldn't be happier. They are not only challenged academically at St. John's, but they are also encouraged to think on a deeper level about their faith, which is important to our family. Opportunities abound for involvement in leadership activities, the arts and athletics. The small school setting allows all the children to get to know each other, no matter what grade they're in, so it feels more like a big family. We love that STJES is also teaching them life skills such as talking to their teachers/adults, public speaking, respecting one another, as well as advocating for themselves. Additionally, there is an emphasis on community service within and outside of the school throughout the year. It's been a great experience, and we're very thankful to have found St. John's!... Parent: My son only just started the 1st Grade but so far I've been very pleased with St. Leonard Elementary. He had a wonderful Kindergarten teacher that you could tell cared greatly about her students and wanted them to succeed. And so far his 1st Grade teacher seems the same way. The rest of the staff have also been great and I'm very thankful for how caring they are.... Read 3 reviews

Senior: Southern Middle School helped me grow and expanded my horizons. The teachers are top notch and clearly care greatly for their students. But, I learned far more than just academics. I learned to play an instrument that I love to play to this day. I learned how to interact with many different types of students and I learned how to lead when I became deeply involved in many different school in many of those taking on leadership roles.... Parent: If you want a school that has your child’s best interest at heart, look no further. We are beyond pleased with every aspect of OLSS. Not only are the academics above par (more opportunities than public school: Spanish classes start in pre-k, private piano lessons available, mentoring of younger students by middle schoolers and the list goes on) but the behavioral expectations and social teachings enforced in the school are phenomenal. Your child is a name, not a number and the parent involvement with the school is amazing. We wanted a small, faith based school that would provide our children with a top notch education, lifetime friendships and community involvement. That’s exactly what we have found here.... Works Here: I have been working at this school for over 9 years now. I began as a substitute teacher and for five years I have been a full-time Instructional Assistant. Our school provides functional skills for special needs students, and caring behavioral development programs to help our emotionally challenged students as well. It is a very positive environment that nurtures the best qualities of our students so they may have the most successful life possible.... Read 1 review

Parent: My kids have been attending Basis since before the pandemic, and we are so impressed! Rich academic curriculum, good inclusion of the arts, excellent opportunity for differentiation based on student needs. The teachers are dedicated and so are the parents to the kids' success. While the administration has been bumpy as the school has gotten established (only 5 years old), they earned their stripes during the pandemic. Organized, safety-focused and diligent about communication. We supplement school with sports leagues and scouting outside of school, which many parents do. Easy to do given the extensive choice you have in the DC area. Also appreciate the international study body with impressively bright students from all over the world. A real meritocracy, unlike other private schools that admit based on VIP status or connections/donations. In the next few years, this school will only continue to advance its place in the rankings.... Read 46 reviews

Senior: Over the course of my 7 years at Gilman, I have fallen in love with the community I became apart of. Like any school, Gilman certainly has its flaws, but I would say the pros outnumber the cons 100 to 1. The teachers in both the middle and upper school are extremely passionate, hardworking, and caring people. The course load is certainly heavy at times, but if you manage your time properly and make sure to seek help from teachers, it is easy to be successful. Regarding social life, there is a group for everyone. Over time, you'll not only find yourself surrounded by a loyal group of immediate friends, but you can have a relationship with nearly everyone in the grade. In my personal opinion being on a sports team, club, or class is just like having a separate friend group. Leaving Gilman this year, I am confident that I am ready for the academic/social life college has to offer, and can call all the members of my graduating class brothers.... Read 70 reviews
