Senior: Mass Academy is an amazing school! The collaborative environment and assignments that are geared toward challenge and real-world applications make being a student here an inspiring and enjoyable experience. The academics are top-notch and challenging, and everyone will help each other. With the small size of ~ 50 students per grade, you get to know each of the faculty members and your classmates personally. The faculty offer a lot of support with independent projects and the college application process. Senior year at WPI prepares you well for college. Although you are always busy as a junior, most of the projects are truly enjoyable because you get to work in a group, including when designing an app and assistive technology device. There are also great classes in the humanities and language, so students gain skills in math and science as well as writing, English, history, and Spanish/French. Parent: We have been very pleased with our Rivers experience. In addition to offering excellent academics and extracurricular opportunities, the school is committed to student wellness. There are two full-time counselors available, and the student-faculty advisor system provides an additional layer of support. Parent: I want to add my support as the parent of two recent Bancroft graduates. As much as it was clear while my kids were still there that Bancroft was a great school (both in terms of academic strength and in terms of inspiring, caring teachers), I didn't really understand how great it was until they started college. Both of them went on to highly selective colleges (one of them with a $100K merit scholarship), and when they got to college, they just excelled. Something about the Bancroft approach to inquiry and curiosity, writing, public speaking, and self-advocacy was the perfect alchemy for college success. They were both much better prepared than their college classmates, and both ended up being a go-to resource for college friends who weren't as strong at thinking independently, writing, and participating in a college community. Alum: Walnut Hill Provides young people with a chance to hone their craft and live their dream every day of the week. Academics are brilliant and have small focused classes. You don't sacrifice any of your academics for arts here; you get it all. On the downside- I attended Walnut Hill for my junior and senior years. Before that I attended one of the most underfunded public schools in the nation. Bringing a bunch of "big-fish-small-pond", talented, young people together... having them live together, attend every class together-- creates a level of immaturity and selfishness I had never experienced. The students here represent the utter lack of compassion and perspective- the literal problem with America. I had to remind myself to separate from the constant drama and focus on why I was there-- the music. The music is truly incredible. Senior: Overall, my experience at Algonquin Regional High School was very good. The majority of teachers and faculty members were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with over my years at the school. Whether it was an academic or personal issue, I always felt that there was a teacher or guidance counselor that I could reach out to for support. Middle School Student: There couldn't be a better middle school. The teachers at this school are as perfect as is humanly possible. The variety of subject matter and activities offered allowed me to discover myself. When I lost my luggage on the eighth grade Washington D.C. field trip one teacher purchased me all new clothing and toiletries with their own money. Every member of the staff at this school loves the students like they're their own children. I had fun, learned a lot, and made many friends. Best three years of my life! Senior: Blackstone Valley Tech offered me a fresh start with a phenomenal curriculum and teachers who made classes enjoyable. Attending a vocational school that is able to combine both experience and education has become something I am deeply grateful for. It's always a pleasure to listening to faculty and teachers as they are lively and teach to the fullest extent of their ability. I have been in situations where I felt as if I was falling behind in challenging courses and found myself receiving guidance from every teacher. Something I would like to see changed would be for the faculty to integrate ethnic cultures and backgrounds into the school environment. Having experience in my school's multicultural club, I discussed my opinion of wanting the school to "make known" of celebrations and holidays by decorating or including said celebrations on their calendars so students feel further welcomed. Parent: My three children have been attending SLA for five years now. The school feels like family! All the teachers know and engage with my children, even if they haven't had them in their class. Because it's a small school the students get lots of one-on-one instruction and all can participate in sports or music, not just the top 10%. My kids are participating in the honors program and are on track to attend competitive universities--I attribute much of that to the extra attention they get. Alum: I personally loved my experience going to McAuliffe. I graduated several years ago, but many things I was taught there still stick with me. I used to remind many of my peers that most of the time, it isn't the school: middle school is supposed to be terrible for everyone. There's no way around it. However at McAuliffe, they do their best to shape their students into better individuals. The teachers there put so much time and effort into their work and they want their students to have the best possible opportunities. There is an extensive range of clubs as well as many sports offered. The school is smaller than the other middle schools in town, but it fosters a welcoming and tight knit community. Instead of regular "specials" (gym, music, art) they offer unique classes (Adventure, Wellness, and T4L2/Design) that are different every year. Senior: I loved shop week! You learn so much and the teachers really care. It is great actually working in the field that you want to work in once you graduate. Sophomore: I think overall it's a great school for a lot of different students. It's extremely diverse and has some really amazing people. They have so many different level courses to choose from and there is certainly some teachers that will change your perspective on school. Something I love that isn't for everyone, is there isn't pressure to go to college. If you do decide to go to college they will help you every step of the way, but are very understanding if college isn't your path. My biggest concern at this school is the administration. They often don't listen to students complains about bullying or harassment by other students or even teachers and instead they discipline those who vape and drink. Although both are issues, I think that the bullying and harassment are something that are often overlooked and not dealt with appropriately. Parent: Our family wishes to pay the highest of compliments to Hillside School for the management of its Spring ’20 Trimester! When academic classes at Hillside resumed online on Monday, March 30, Hillside’s faculty performed with excellence, as if the school had been operating with remote learning for quite some time. Our family was incredibly impressed with the overall effectiveness of Hillside’s remote learning program. And the continuity of curriculum throughout the Spring ’20 trimester exceeded our expectations! Hillside School set a date & time to launch remote learning of Monday, March 30, 2020 at 8:15 am to noon. That morning, his screen lit up with images and familiar faces at precisely 8:15 am. Then, from Monday, March 30 through the last week of May, the consistency of his school day was just what we hoped for. Academic lessons began right at 8:15 am and continued up until noon.
