Parent: The best of Commonwealth is the faculty and staffs! They are very caring and dedicated to help each student to improve and grow. My son started quite a few weeks late on the first year. I was very much impressed with how the school planned for my son’s curriculum. They truly encourage the students to take off as high as they can. The teachers are so helpful that my son was able to quickly catch up everything. The low teacher-student ratio makes it easy to schedule a meeting with any teacher to discuss any issues and concerns. The administration is very supportive who had worked very hard to create my son’s schedule due to course change this fall, while they were so busy with preparing the school for the hybrid learning mode. They amazingly turned the in-person learning to fully remote during the spring break. Commonwealth school offers authentic education. Junior: I LOVE CA! As a current day student, I don’t have many regrets about my choice to go CA. The academics are manageable but rigorous, super friendly community, and most teachers really put in an effort to connect with students. CA is centered around common trust basically meaning that we all have trust in each other and put effort to foster a community. With that said, that is the case about 90% of the time. I’ve had a couple negative experiences with teachers and students who simply just don’t adhere to the common trust. For instance, I’ve a couple of teachers who just didn’t put in any effort to support me or my unique learning. Other than those few experiences, I have nothing but positive feedback for CA.... Sophomore: I have gone to school here since sixth grade, and I am about to enter my junior year. The dedication NCDS has put into my education is truly astounding, and continues to leave me in awe with every new year. I love everything about it, from the various committees/clubs you can partake in, competitive and fun sports teams, Sacred Heart traditions like conge, and the supportive TAG program for middle schoolers and the advisors program for upper schoolers. Between my advisor, my teachers and my coaches, I know that if a problem arises that I need help solving or just need to talk out, I have an abundance of options for people to turn to. Senior: I am a current Newman School Senior and I have loved being apart of this community! It really does feel like family. Everyone from the students to the teachers really do want to see us succeed. The school offers several clubs and creates such an easy space to start your own and add to the benefit of the community. Being located right in the city is another major bonus. We have easy access to several forms of transportation and when the weather is nice, often times students go and have lunch outside. Sometimes teachers take us outside for class too which is always nice. The school is also very flexible with students schedules who have high demand extra curricular activities outside of school. Which is nice for students who would otherwise only have the option of home school and don't necessarily want to do that. Junior: PART 1: If you are a parent considering CRLS and comparing it to neighboring schools such as BB&N I urge you to read through these reviews! CRLS offers notable arts programs and rigorous AP courses.The diversity in this school is great, with countless languages, and religions represented in our large student body. It is important to note though, that with this diversity comes challenges. Occasional instances of microaggressions, racism, and lack of forethought from administrators are some of the flaws here.The socio-economic differences are apparent, and friend groups while mainly diverse, are skewed more or less wealthy.We are politically active and kind, but like many high schools, bullying and online drama still exists. Note that pep-rally and football culture is low. Knowing the culture at places such as BB&N I am sure that Rindge is more accepting, but the academics and opportunities take more time to really take advantage of. Alum: As an Alumni of the School the academics of the school are pretty great. The teachers generally care a lot about students, and you can really get an individualized experience. I had some excellent teachers at this school. However, there are some problems with the school which are AP selection and Extracurriculars. Smaller school size decreases the availability of some APs. This means that some APs like Calc AB, Lit, and History are always offered, while other APs like any AP Physics, and Calculus BC are unavailable. However, other STEMs like Chem and Bio are still offered. Additionally, the School does not allow AP loading, meaning that students can graduate with at most 9 APs over 4 years of High School. The other weak area of Pioneer is its lackluster club scene. During all 6 of my years at Pioneer there was no consistent structure for clubs. Senior: I have absolutely loved my experience at MC. From the start, everyone has always been so friendly and welcoming. I have never seen anyone with a frown in the classrooms and the teachers always make learning fun. Parent: Best decision we could have made. Real family/community environment. Younger kids have older mentors. As a 7th grader, he is already learning about Physics & engineering. He says these classes are the best ever. Math, Science, Technology classes are so hands-on! Additionally, they learn the reason for math like Algebra. Most schools teach subjects as unrelated silos of info. At the Meridian, the subjects are INTEGRATED. The school customizes learning (e.g., very small advanced Spanish class or coding class). Languages are 1 of 3 pillars of learning, so learning a foreign language is paramount every year. No loud bells going off, teachers are great, & students are able to be totally involved in their learning. They don't need an external reward system like grades. They want to learn & do their best.
