Senior: Somers High School offered me excellent opportunities during my time as a student there! With a plethora of AP, IB, Honors, Regents, and elective courses, my education has been very diverse and adequately prepared me for college. Every department at Somers High School is very strong, well-staffed, and well-funded. Every student has the chance to excel in every program, and teachers are very invested in their students and want them to learn and grow. The only downside is that the student body is very exclusive, and oftentimes any discussions on real-world events/politics are met with hostility if students disagree with you. A small portion of our student body is very intolerant towards people of color and varying faiths, but generally people are as accepting as a school with a mostly white student body really can be-we aren’t well-prepared to enter more diverse environments despite our school’s efforts to promote tolerance.

Alum: Kennedy Catholic High School was a...polarizing experience to say the least. It's good, but sometimes is a bit off the mark of that.Kennedy has some good staff, a majority of their teachers are friendly, invested, and good at their jobs. They also have a good quantity of extracurricular events and activities, like clubs, sports, and class events. My personal favorite was the Smash Brother's tournament they hosted my Senior Year. But the cons are major. 1. The rules enforcement in the school falls into two extremes, rules are either enforced to the point of it almost being harassment, or they are ignored. Also, the uniform rules are strict to an unnecessary degree, to the point of students freezing in class. The school also has a very strict and oppressive culture, with a high amount of anxiety, stress, oppression of/in their students.Should the overbearing enforcement of rules be fixed, Kennedy would be a great school!

Senior: Lakeland is a place for growth, adaption, and, most importantly, love. Over my 12 years as a student in this district, I have met a fantastic group of friends, and I have had teachers that I all wish could win the lottery. The teachers at Lakeland care about you, they want to see you succeed in life, and they do everything in their power to help you. I was always an outgoing child, almost to outgoing, and Lakeland is a place where you are accepted as you are, loud Italian voice and all. Three weeks into my freshman year, my father passed away. The days following my father's passing, families, and sports teams in the district filled my home with love and support. All of the sports teams, including coaches, all came together and comforted my mother; it is because of them, three years later, I am writing this. My major in college will be education, and one day I hope to come back to Lakeland and teach. Lakeland is the district I would pick in a heartbeat to raise my future children.
