Senior: Overall , monticello High School was an okay school. The students had a lot of diversity and they offered many different classes that you were able to choose from. Extra help was offered after school for many teachers however not all. There weren’t many clubs to join nor after school activities. Sports were one of the main after school activities, the coaches are great. There are many different electives to choose from with an amazing art program and great music teachers that are always willing to help you learn new music. The safety in the school was okay however it could be better just like most schools. The food wasn’t great so many students brought food from home . Administration is very involved in all of the students academic needs and they were always there to help or sort out any problems that needed to be sorted out. Parent: We enrolled our son in Fork Union Military Academy after seeing so many YouTube videos that touted the benefits of the one-subject program and the school. The promise of focus, structure, and accomplishment came through. He passed all his classes in this, his first year, a sophomore at FUMA...We took advantage of their academic success program. There he found continuous support and cheers! They found novel approaches to reach him, took the time to learn about him, and flexed their approaches. I have been concerned in the past about the ability of teachers who are not Black to 'see my son' as an individual. At FUMA, they know him, challenge him to be his best, hold him accountable, and motivate him...I am proud of what he has done this year.
