Parent: The school has been such a great fit for our family. Our kids went to public school through 8th grade. They choose to go to ECA for high school. They all love the experiences they got their. They enjoyed the academics, sports, and all activities that have made them well rounded. The teachers go out or their way to make great students and go out of their way to help students in anyway. The academics has gotten our sons ready for college. I believe my one son who is in college, would have failed if he did attend ECA to prepare him.... Read 44 reviews

Junior: Going into high school is not simple in fact it can be pretty scary. However, the special characteristic that Elkhart Memorial has is the community. It is not just the teachers who get long but the students have a strong sense of family. The relationships between teachers and students leaves one feeling like they actually have a home. The inclusion that is available at this school appears to be strong. Even then it is still important to note that even the best of schools have their flaws. For example often times students feel alone or at loss for whatever reason. Easily a student should think of a person or place that can help them when trouble arrises. Usually school or an adult at school comes to mind. However, resources here can seem short. It is important for schools to not only focus on the academic/athletic side of school but the personal/mental health of students. It would make a great difference if Memorial focused on personal enrichment as well.... Read 268 reviews

Parent: Both of our kids started at The New School in ninth grade, after eight years of public school. It was one of the best parenting decisions we've ever made. Everything about this school is terrific. The teachers are passionate, inspired, and inspiring. Small, topics-driven, seminar-style classes foster creativity and independent thinking, while the welcoming atmosphere makes everyone feel at home. Our two kids turned out to be very different kinds of learners, but both thrived at The New School. Our youngest graduates next year, and we'll be sad to think of not having that day-to-day connection. Can't say enough about this wonderful school!... Read 26 reviews

Alum: I attended St. Thomas the Apostle School from the middle of 3rd to the middle of 7th grades. The school was superb - focused, disciplined, fast-moving, with no attempt to reduce the curriculum to a lowest common denominator. The teachers challenged the students - to learn the detail - and to keep up. We had MANY contests within the classroom - diagramming sentences (a year-long diagramming hour), spelling bees, history challenges (challenge a student to stand and reply to the question -- taken from the text already studied). Teachers certainly kept score of the contests, competition was fierce - and learning was extraordinary. The teachers did love the children - and felt keenly the children should LEARN - even bringing in outsiders to lecture (for example, on the Reformation, a theology doctoral candidate at Notre Dame). Class sizes are far smaller now - my last grade (7th) was typical -- 53 students with only Sister Mary Anne as teacher. I strongly recommend the school.... Read 2 reviews

Parent: The curriculum is thoughtful, encourages critical thinking and think outside the box. While the school has a strong focus in math and science, my child is getting a well rounded education with classes in Language Arts, History, Community, etc., electives in art, foreign languages and history of food as well as after school fun like drama, sports and animal lovers clubs! The daily updates are informative detailing by class what my child did that day and I like the sneak peak on what the higher grade levels are learning/reading/doing. The teachers encourage the students to advocate for themselves but they are always on hand to help! My child has developed strong friendships with kids at various grade levels which shows that there is a common comradery and closeness in this community. The best review I can give comes from my child who says that Ideaventions Academy "is the best school ever!" and we wholeheartedly agree.... Read 7 reviews

Parent: My kids have been attending Basis since before the pandemic, and we are so impressed! Rich academic curriculum, good inclusion of the arts, excellent opportunity for differentiation based on student needs. The teachers are dedicated and so are the parents to the kids' success. While the administration has been bumpy as the school has gotten established (only 5 years old), they earned their stripes during the pandemic. Organized, safety-focused and diligent about communication. We supplement school with sports leagues and scouting outside of school, which many parents do. Easy to do given the extensive choice you have in the DC area. Also appreciate the international study body with impressively bright students from all over the world. A real meritocracy, unlike other private schools that admit based on VIP status or connections/donations. In the next few years, this school will only continue to advance its place in the rankings.... Read 46 reviews
