Senior: I can honestly say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Scranton Prep, from the clubs and sports to academics, I really feel I’ve gotten a taste for college life. I do wish the pandemic was handled better, as we stayed open despite the increasing number of positive COVID tests throughout the building. Luckily, outbreaks were avoided, but remote learning should’ve been the route the school took. I also wish there was a bit more diversity, as it is a predominantly white school, but nonetheless a decent amount of my classmates are minorities. As far as applying to college goes, the college admissions councilors are very helpful and walked me through every step of the process, easing the stress. Alum: I enjoyed my time at Holy Cross. I forged many friendships that last to this day and I received a great education. It's a relatively small campus. Everything's on one floor with a few modular classrooms. Cheeseburger Wednesday was the best part of lunch every week and i loved singing the alma mater after mass. There were definitely some drawbacks here and there; bullying took place and the Olweus program we'd do roughly once a month really didn't change it one way or another. Senior: The school is great! There is something for every student. There are a wide variety of clubs, including Mini-Thon, Mathletes, a theater club, and Science Olympiad, to name a few. There are also plenty of sports teams, including rifle and lacrosse. In a normal year, there are plenty of student council-sponsored activities to enjoy and fun themed days to help students relax. The curriculum is great, offering 4 tracks of study (general, academic, accelerated, and AP). Students can easily mix and match levels, so if you're not the best at math, you can take an academic course, but also stay in a more advanced history class. The teachers are wonderful and put a lot of time and effort into their lesson plans. The diversity and food are not great, but we're a rural PA school. What can you expect? Senior: I loved my experience at Holy Redeemer so for because every teacher is so friendly, the school has great school spirit and everyone is like family there. I had an awesome high school career even though half of my experience was taken away due to COVID, Holy Redeemer did an awesome job dealing with the adversity and making our school amazing. the sports teams are friendly, very competitive, and most teams have winning records. Senior: Given that my experience with Scranton High School is my only experience with attending a high school, I lack a proper way to compare my high school experience to other high school experiences. Nonetheless, I still believe that my experience was better than the experience I could acquire at other high schools. I took advantage of the resources that my high school offered, namely the more rigorous academic courses such as the honors and AP courses. I was always satisfied with my grades, and I also felt satisfied with my teachers and also with my peers to some extent. I rate my high school as very good instead of excellent for a few reasons. One reason was that I felt that my school did not stress the importance of community service and extracurricular activities enough; this made me feel less motivated to part in these activities.
