Parent: Our daughter started at Waterford in the PK3 class, the first the school offers. We wanted to find a place in Salt Lake City that offered a great education, diverse student body, and caring faculty and staff. Waterford offered us all that and more. From the moment you walk into the building, it's clear Waterford is just...different. The students all greet you with a smile and a polite "hello" as they walk down the halls. The administration knows every parent and greets them by name whenever you encounter them. The teachers truly care about the students, their achievement, and their well-being. Parent: It’s the oldest public charter school in Utah and is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. All three of my boys have attended all four years (5-8th) at SLArts. It’s been an outstanding school with dedicated faculty, low turnover, stellar arts curriculum including dance, music, visual arts and drama. The math/science teachers and curriculum are also outstanding. It received an A+ in the Utah Schools report card this year. If your student is an avid learner with good executive organizational skills and a passion for the arts - this is the school for you. SLArts is supportive of a diverse student body and creates an environment of deep learning. Be sure to put your child’s name into their lottery in 4th grade (usually closes by February), for consideration as an incoming 5th grader when close to 100 spots are available. Alum: Judge is a unique place. Most kids don't like it when they are there however it prepares you for college better than anywhere else. It is a close community and leaves you with unique memories and experiences. Although it seems like a chore at times, learning about religion, specifically world religions and social justice, is enlightening and is something you won't get from other schools. The administration often doesn't understand its students but they do understand running a top school. You can find some sort of activity that fits and interests you although socially being with such a small student body can be hard at times. At the end of the day, it is excellent for academics, you'll make a few lifelong friends, and the variety of clubs and activities it offers is unrivaled. Senior: Itineris Early College High School is an exceptional school. Everyone should consider putting their kids in this school. As a student myself, I have had so many opportunities at this school I wouldn't get anywhere else. For instance, Itineris offers Concurrent Enrollment and Early Enrollment college classes. This helps get high school credits, but also a chance at getting an Associate's Degree! That is one of the main reasons I went to this school. The teachers and counselors connect with the students amazingly, there are even college professors teaching here. Itineris is a STEM school so if you are interested in taking a career in that, I highly suggest this school. It gives you the college experience without officially being enrolled in one. Freshman: I love this school! During this Covid season, our school has taken many many precautions to keep our school up and running and it seems to be doing wonders. The staff and teachers at this school are amazing, kind and supportive of students while providing a good learning environment. I love the wide variety of school activities for every interest, from basketball to International Club and Pre-Med club. Senior: I like the community at AMES. Everyone encourages each other to do better and challenge themselves. I have so many things that I probably would not have done without the encouragement of the AMES community. This includes things such as a difficult class I was hesitant to take or a volunteer experience I was unsure about. Now I am so glad I did these things. One thing that should change at AMES is College Forum. College Forum was designed to help us prep for college whether it was the admissions process or succeeding in college however, College Forum has not been very effective in my personal experience. Alum: I came from a charter elementary and middle school to this huge public high school of 2400+ students, and I was totally thrown off. Come to find out, it was so much fun. The teachers are amazing, I had the best education of all of my friends that attended other public high schools. The staff and faculty are all super friendly and helpful and really help you succeed. I took a variety of honors, AP, and concurrent enrollment classes that really prepared me for college. There is a variety of resources, from early morning and after school tutoring, a fully stocked media center, computers for check out, you name it. The extracurriculars are phenomenal, I played basketball, volleyball, and ran track (all varsity) and loved every minute of it with great coaches and programs. Parent: Our daughter attended ICS for pre-K last year and is now in Kindergarten - I never leave reviews but I am so proud to be a part of this community for my children's education (we have 4 kids!). To give you an idea of what makes ICS special beyond great academics and small class sizes (for kindergarten): weekly Spanish classes, twice a month STEM lab, weekly library and music classes, chapel, ballet lessons after school, and field trips! Our teachers are great at communicating and welcome parent involvement - they are transparent, honest, and genuine. Lastly, Christian values are woven throughout our child's whole day, not just one class or weekly service. They are learning about God in math, during reading, and music, and all the time! Junior: Overall, Hillcrest High is a very good school. There are many different classes with great faculty and staff. It is a very upbeat community full of school pride and tons of opportunities to show your school spirit by going to different sports games and school events. However, sometimes the normal/honors students can be overlooked as the AP/IB students take priority. There have been many instances where rooms and labs reserved for normal students have instead been given to AP/IB students which takes learning opportunities away from others. Many teachers also focus more on getting grades and reports in on time for the AP/IB students and let all other students fall behind. Freshman: The Granite School district is a very good district. I am enrolled in a school that is part of the Granite School district and I also work as a sweeper for The Granite School district. I love the school I go to as everyone at the school including students, teachers, and the rest of the administration is all very nice and amazing. From the first day I walked into the school I felt welcomed by everyone especially my counselor who was very kind to me by letting me leave my cello there when I couldn't leave it in our band hall when she knew nothing about me. I do however wish that our classrooms used more work on paper instead of using digital devices. I also work for a school that is part of the Granite school district and it is very nice. It pays very well and i have always been treated fairly and kindly. The only thing i wish I could change is that our jobs for the day were more specific.... Read 1 review
