Junior: Greenhills is a diverse, tight knit community that has really helped me become more confident in my artistic abilities, writing, and performance overall. It's a really small school which makes it great for individualized learning and opportunities. This is only further enhanced by the array of diverse voices being heard. The literary classes in particular showcase some amazing books on diversity and inclusion. My main gripe with the school is its lack of diverse education resources- it isn't great at providing aid for neurodivergent kids. Some teachers also don't properly use the homework website and neglect updating or even showing grades for each academic term. Personally, the small student body has helped me grow to be a more confident individually but, it does get a bit boring and monotonous to just see the same people everyday. Sophomore: Besides the fact that WIHI a FREE IB school, the diversity and inclusion it has is also one of the best aspects about being a student there. There are students from many different countries, ethnic backgrounds, and identities, and this creates a more socially pleasant environment that allows each individual student to learn and grow with their peers. In regards to the curriculum, WIHI makes sure to challenge its students with frequent assessments, but at the same time gives many no-homework weekends, as well as multiple opportunities to ask teachers for additional instruction. WIHI also has many events spread throughout the year, such as EDJI day (equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion), field day, and career day, along with more common activities such as Homecoming and Prom. One of my favorite aspects about WIHI is the unique curriculum it offers, with classes such as psychology, global politics, ATL (approaches to learning). Parent: After a few months of online schooling and many tears, we were desperate to find an in-person alternative to the anxiety inducing situation we were in. Our 9 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter have been attending the lower school since January and we are extremely pleased and feel so fortunate to have landed there. Our sensitive son’s anxiety level has been lowered significantly, and he really responds to the learning style there. He is thrilled to be learning cursive and German and knitting, and also seems to really appreciate the extra outdoor time and learning about nature and Native American stories in addition to his times tables and long division. Our nearly 5 year old daughter’s imagination is put to great use every day and she has also become quite the little finger knitter! The environment is nurturing and thoughtful. Senior: I have really enjoyed my time at this school, it is a very academic and fast-paced school district. It can be quite competitive with a lot of SHS graduates going to good universities like U of M and Michigan Tech. The school itself has certainly had it's ups and downs, but overall its safe, clean, and I've made a lot of friends while here. The staff is exceptional, and the sports are pretty excellent to match. Junior: I have been School since I was in pre-K, so naturally this became my second home. The teachers are like my aunts and uncles and they care very deeply about my education and are very passionate about what they teach to every student at the school. Junior: The best part of Washtenaw is you’re on your own path and I have options instead of my path already being set for me. I got to pick a major, and I will be graduating high school with an associates degree in a field of my own choice. The school also takes mental health serious and accommodates me so I can do the best I can. The hardest parts was getting used to everything being my own responsibility, and having so much freedom at the campus. In the end they helped me learn independence and a lot more personal responsibility. Sophomore: The teachers and staff at Early College Alliance are all very helpful and truly care for your success. They work quickly to help prepare you for a college class by finding where your current level is and then taking the steps to improve from there. Every student has a CORE advisor, which is a member of the ECA program (usually a teacher) that you can talk to about your schedule, any difficulties you're having, or something else and they'll respond with helpful feedback. The campus is incredibly nice and, as ECA students, we have access to pretty much all of it. I'm very glad that I decided to come to ECA to further my education and make all my new friends. Alum: I loved AP for the community that was there, the teachers were super friendly and easy to reach out too. The faculty was relatively young which made it much easier to connect with my teachers. I also do believe that the school's attempt at preparing me for college career also was accomplished. The curriculum pushed me to step outside of my comfort area a bit and I think this really helped me further down the road when it came in regards to my classes. If I had one constructive critique it would be that there weren't as many clubs available as I may have preferred, but I think that also comes in hand with it being a relatively young institution (established only in 2010 I believe) and having a small student population. Senior: As someone who has attended several different kinds of educational institutions (online, private, public, charter), I truly believe that education is what YOU make out of it. Central Academy has caring staff who are willing to go above and beyond to meet your needs. While IB and AP curriculum aren't offered at this time, they willingly pay for students to take dual-enrollment college classes. As a rising senior, I will be graduating with around 40 college credits and will be well acquainted with the rigor of college-level courses. There are many opportunities to start your own extracurriculars, an endeavor the staff is more than willing to support you in. Whether you want to test out of a class, request to take additional college courses, or change your schedule, the staff is more than willing to help if you take the time to ask.
